There wasn't anything he could have done about the goal imo

Jones is the media darling and so was immediately absolved of any blame. Burley even said something in commentary like: 'Well, I know Jones lost Crouch but...'.

He then went on to criticise DDG for God knows what.

Was he getting blame for the goal? Christ.

Good corner and a bullet header on the edge of the six yard box. How the hell is that a goal-keeping error?

I didn't see most of the game as I'm at work but I noticed someone saying in the MD thread he should have come out for it, but as I didn't see it I've got no idea. What you've described though is something you can't really help, unless you've got absolute ninja reactions facing a bullet header at that range.

Craig Burley spent a good 5 minutes laying the blame firmly at his door. But we all know to expect no better from him.

Check out MoTD mate, them saves in the first half are 'must see'.

Wasn't his fault at all, a good header from point blank range by Crouch that Jones failed to stop.

He does need to learn to command his box a bit more and come and claim crosses more often, that said the more he learns english the more that will come and he did produce some stunning saves today.

Well done again.

He will I think.
I thought he was very good when it came to stopping shots, I'd love to see more authority in the air but it's not easy for him.

His record in La Liga against bullet headers from six yards speaks for itself: x goals conceded from y attempts. Sir Alex's signing 'keepers history isn't the best, is it?

 Christ. Is there such a thing as a record of bullet headers from 6 yards? Which Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime said that? What a ridiculous thing to say. That's like me saying Torres record of missing open nets from yards out this season speaks for itself.

Two top quality saves. Goal clearly wasn't his fault, but I think he did get a bit lucky with the free-kick decision against Delap. Went down a bit easily for me.

There were a couple of occasions where he actually looked quite commanding in the area. I remember one where he came through a crowd of players to catch the ball.

I don't know about the goal being his fault, and I though he had a very strong game, but I think he's got to try to come for a ball that close to his goal, inside the 6 yard box and inside the uprights.

He was starting off really deep, I guess that was the plan. Stoke cause problems with their throw-ins, but the ones that go inside the 6 yard box are generally gobbled up.

He will continue to work on dealing with crosses, I'm not worried.

I swear we could have a penalty shootout where De Gea saved as many as he possibly could (all of them going into the top corner), and still some numpties would find something to complain about.

"He's not Schmeichel or Van Der Sar"

Didn't see the game will watch highlights. Was crouch header smack bang on the 6 yard line?

He had a fine game. If anything, Rio and Jones sort of messed up the job of marking Crouch. He didn't get put under much pressure.

The ball in for the goal was whipped in with plenty of pace. Absolutely no way he could have come for that, and obviously no way he stops the header. Thought Walton gave Crouch too much leeway - he was climbing over our defenders all game.

Oh, and how good was the save he tipped onto the woodwork?!
Ridiculous reflex save!

The save that he pushed onto the world work was on of the best saves I've seen this season if not the last few years. Stunning. The second one wasn't bad either (Some seem to think it was better)

I dunno, maybe he just needs to play more dirty, fly out with elbows and knees, and let people know they're going to get it if they try to block him? Apart from bulking up, and plenty, that's the only thing he can do right now I guess.

They were both incredible, but the second one he's going to have seen so late thanks to it going through Evra's legs and he's got a long way to go to get down to it, so it's a really tough save. The first is pure reflex, but still fantastically impressive.

DDG's first save at around 0.30

Get it before it's down

Our best player today no doubt in my opinion.

He plays better from game to game.

That is what I keep saying, he's been getting better with each game.
This is about the toughest it can get for him - isn't it ? And he did do very decently.

Thought he looked nervous for almost every corner, great shot stopping though.

Drill him on the set pieces with all our big lads giving him a roughing up Eric ;)

Good - goal was NOT his fault, despite the f-ing commentator trying his level best to make it out that way.

But there was a shot he blocked(diving to his right) where the ball seemed to sort of go through his attempt at pushing it wide - it was a good save no doubt, but on replay it looked it a bit :nervous:

Those saves he made were truly World Class. It's better that he experiences this type of match situation first hand, it will only help his learning. Stoke did what they do best and hopefully next time he will be prepared for it.

I felt we should have stopped that goal though. Maybe De Gea could have come for it or the defenders should have prevented Crouch from getting there? It was at a decent height for one of them to deal with it.

The save you're referring to was actually a fecking brilliant save.

Sir Alex isn't no fool - he wouldn't play him if he thought in ANY WAY that he wasn't good enough.

He's got all the credentials and is still learning English football. I remember seeing Schmeichel for the first time in a United shirt - he was far from convincing.

He's a good signing and will improve with time and coaching. I'm glad we've signed a youngster who will develop with the other young players. We could have signed a proven 30 something year old but then you've got the problem of having to replace him in 5-10 years.

The second save shows how he's improved swiftly - a few weeks back, he might not have got down to it so quickly & Stoke would've scored.

The media are ridiculous. Don't want to give him any praise without alluding to mistakes on the feckin first day of the season and a pre-season glorified friendly.

It's never "that's a top class save from David De Gea" only "He's looked shaky/He's had his critics but that's a good save there." They're going to stretch this shit out as long as they can knowing these lazy, ignorant pundits.
