Supposedly we've been getting him ready for Stoke's play all week, SAF said they've been discussing positioning from throw ins and set plays, but similar as to what they did with Edwin.

The good thing about playing Stoke is that the opposing team will always knows their tactics beforehand

He has looked better every game and looks to be able to adapt his game quickly but today will really test his decision making which I am not sure you can coach, just comes with experience.

What's the bet they catch us by surprise by unveiling their new brand of fast, barca-esque, free-flowing football against us?

ESPN like I assumed have spent another 20 minutes talking about De Gea.

Why are large sections of the media seemingly wanting De Gea to fail

2 stunning saves but does look a bit uncomfortable with crosses/corners/throws coming in but then who doesn't?

Hee, hee, loved his little tumble for the free. Feck it! If they're allowed to flout the rules why can't he?

The pundits and critics are moving their goalposts I think. From what I can see they're going to build him up as Barthez.2 (i.e shot stopper who can't do much else) completely ignoring how young he is and the fact that he will improve his arial ability.

Virtually the only bright spot today.

They are just looking for a reason to blame him for anything now, it's getting beyond ridiculous. Most goalkeepers have a tough time at Stoke.

VDS and Schmeichel would both have been proud of pulling off either of those saves today, brilliant.

Absolutely fantastic today. Saved us by three crucial saves.

Looked very good today. A great shot-stopper, wonderful kicking and control. In time this goalkeeper could mature into something very special.

Good saves. Man of the match after Nani.

There's still a bit of uncertainty about him. It's probably because we were so used to VDS's coolness. every season there would be at least five or six matches in which we would have the dutchman as mom. And the way De Gea performs now, he should get to that level of authority.

All I can say is good luck.

Thought he was fantastic today. He made two absoloutely world class saves, and to my mind he didnt put a foot wrong with any crosses, certainly don't remember him flapping at any, came and caught a few too.

God knows what the commentator on espn was on blaming him for the goal :wenger:

Excellent performance today against the munsters. A couple of stand out saves in either half. He is visibly growing in confidence week by week. The sooner we can get better protection in front of him and a consistent back line the better, as he is being exposed to more than he should atm.

He flapped at one early doors, but in retrospect did enough to get something on it.

And hardly any keeper go there without flapping at one or two throw-ins or dead balls.

He was brilliant and made 3 saves which prevented defeat.

I think the only partial criticism can be that maybe he should come out and punch/collect the ball more often from corners? Not just for the goal but there were several moments where you felt that he could have come out and punched it or done something about it.

Anyway that will come with time. He's been fastastic today :D

Stoke is a terrible team for a goalkeeper to play against but he coped with it admirably.

Are you talking about saves in the first half?

I only watched the second half. The point blank save from Crouch with his elbow was quality.

He made two outstanding saves in the first half, much better than the point blank save from Crouch IMO.

Erm.... yea I'm pretty sure they were both first half, one was a bullet shot he pushed onto and over the bar and the other went through Evra's legs and he got down fast and got a good hand to push it wide, both world class.

He didn't know much about that one.

The one he tipped on to the woodwork was the best one

Watch the first half if you can, he makes two stunning saves. The first was a real wow shit how did he pull that one off kind of moment.

Got us a point today. Played well and can't fault him for the goal. Obviously been told to stay on his line.

Our best player today. He keeps improving, can't demand more from him.
