De Gea did brilliantly for the Ramires save. Many goalkeepers might have stayed rooted, as all Ramires had to do was walk the ball in, but DDG left me open-mouthed - I was absolutely convinced it was going to be a Chelsea goal. Of course, journos are busy rewriting history, so what was actually a fantastic save by David is now considered merely a terrible miss by Ramires. Even some of our own supporters are going on about DDG's 'poor distribution' & him dropping the ball; give the guy a break, FFS...

Loved how he stayed on his feet before Torres rounded him, could have easily dropped him and got sent off.

I don't worry about the lad anymore.

Loved his composure from the moment i saw him. a very special player. and he's just 20. we have our GK spot taken care of for the decade or so.

Yep. brilliant couple of saves at 1-0. it could have been an entirely different game had those gone in.

And the look towards torres after the miss

De Gea did well there but Ramires should have done much better.
Credit to De Gea to not give up on a lost cause but Ramires had the whole goal open and shot dead centre instead of going for the corner.
De Gea's dive was more in hope than anticipation.
Having said that, I think he had a good game and is getting better with every game. I have far more confidence in him now that I had after the West Brom game.

So that's two absolutely vital, game-altering saves against big-time teams Arsenal and Chelsea. Not bad for a 'flop', eh? :)

He always seeks a pass, even when under pressure. It's mind-blowing for such a young keeper.

"...more in hope than anticipation" What an asinine comment. So you would rather De Gea have stayed at the far post or committed fully to the near post in "anticipation" of the best areas that Ramires should have aimed at?
It doesn't matter how good a goalkeeper looks - if he makes a save, then that is all that matters.
Fortunately, it is SAF's confidence that matters and not yours!

Fantastic save, and done with his left hand as well. De Gea is a beast!

Apparently Schmeichel was in a directors box for the match, and was seen to be mightily impressed with De Geas save from Ramires.
I thought it was incredible at the time.

And the way he used the force to make Torres miss too...

Yeah, schmikes was there. he applauded wholeheartedly. was good to see.

Two decades, if he looks after himself he should go on until he's near enough 40. Works out at less that a million per season he plays for us (value).

Sorry, but I just find these posts absolutely mental. Anything can happen in football. What if he had an injury outside of football that stops his career? What if he makes 3 mistakes on the trot in the next few matches and completely loses his confidence? What if he wants a move to Barca in 5 years time?

You may very well be right, but the chances of a Spanish goalkeeper spending 20 years in England are very minimal. Its just the fact that you sound so sure it'll happen that irks me a little.

Played excellently yesterday. His confidence is growing for sure. I think the Great Dame might have been out a bit quicker on Torres when he scored but De Gea did nothing wrong.

Knew we shoulda signed Judi Dench instead...

The save he made from Ramires was a good one to see. He could have easily given up all hope of that one as it seemed a simple tap in really. De Gea though had other ideas, he got of the floor in double quick time and got across the goal in no time at all to be there to make the a save.

Ramires still should have scored but I bet seeing De Gea rushing over contributed to his poor finish. He also made a good save with his foot early on, again from Ramires.

He's getting better and better with every game. Long may it continue.

Same applies to Torres' horror miss. Obviously, it's almost entirely his fault but the fact De Gea didn't over-commit - and was back on his feet chasing him down almost immediately - meant Torres couldn't take another touch to get it on his stronger foot.

I am not entirely sure what made u think I have no confidence in De Gea speceally considering I ended my post with how much more confidence I have in him now.
As far as the anticipation goes, I am saying that the way it looks is that he dived inspite of it being a lost cause and was lucky that ramires hit it dead centre of the goal rather than the bottom right corner which he could quite easily have done.

He looked very confident today. I was pleased with how he handled himself, and he made a hand-full of good saves. Overall good performance from de Beard and nothing can be spun by the journalists following a performance like that.

They probably will but I thought he had a pretty good game actually. Made some good saves, looks to be growing in confidence and the never give up attitude to stop the Ramires chance really sums up his determination. I'm feeling much more confident and as he adjusts to new teammates he'll get even better.

Carry on David :D

Credit the gk for the Ramirez save. He didn't give up. As to Torres If he really flew out 100% he may have made it but the chance of giving a penalty away would be very high. I suspect De Gea is less prone to mad dashes like Reina or seszchne he's more calculated in his approach.

To be fair all he had to do was swing his peg towards the goal.

I would have buried it blindfolded. I'm all for praising De Gea but I don't think it's required regarding Torres' situation. Every keeper in the world would have chased him.

Well, they'd have looked a bit stupid standing still.

My point wasn't about De Gea's decision to chase him. It was the fact he didn't over commit and give away a penalty or end up sliding on his arse, giving Torres enough time and space to walk the ball into the goal.

He's settling in nicely, just looking a part of the team now. Which is all you really want and I'm quite happy to see it so soon. Really excited about both our keepers. Shame we can't play both together, really...

I haven't read too much about Reina's fumble against Spurs. Maybe Dalgleish's daughter should ask Dad if he will be starting next week.

I tell you what imagine what the media would be like if Young and Ferdinand got sent off, De Gea makes a dreadful mistake and we get stuffed 4-0 where we were outplayed from kick off. And there lies the difference between the pressure at Old Trafford and the pressure at Anfield currently.

Thought he was great, great feet to get across for the Ramirez save. Also I know it has been said often enough but his distribution is inch perfect, that ball out to Smalling/Nani was very effective yesterday.

Im rewatching the arsenal game right now, and besides the penalty he also pulled a couple of great stops to keep us in the game before we went up 2-0. He definitely isn't getting the credit he deserves from the press atm.
