I love how much players are shooting at him from a distance. He might end up conceding from these shots now and then but it also means players are making poor decisions, taking impossible shots from anywhere instead of actually trying to create something.

Indeed. Let's never confuse footballers with intelligence though.

Although tbf that shoot on site attitude is most likely coming from the managers.

:nervous:

I think you can understand what he is trying to say. I also in a way like it, it is like some foolish manager has instructed his team to just shoot because they have heard De Gea is not good. so instead of a proper through pass, the said fool will shoot.

I have a hunch Wenger did not give those instructions. Instead he probably just told his players to pass more.

ESPN are using De Gea's inclusion as the main talking point. Good luck De Beard.

I don't think a player in history has had a torrid time by the media as much as De Gea, he is way looked at through a MICROSCOPE, it is getting annoying now.

These bastards don't have anything else to talk about, give the kid a blimming chance for goodness sakes.

Don't know why they are making it this big, what about Joe Hart, can't believe it picking on him all the time.

Bunch or TIMEWASTERS these media idiots.

End of rant1

I think you're over-egging it a bit! Lots of players get stick in the papers, being an expensive signing to one of the biggest clubs in the world only increases the intensity.

Good for United is that they did their homework and he is a strong character and thankfully we have continued to win despite the odd error. I think his lack of English has helped him too as he hasn't understood all the chants etc.

Good signs today though, looked very accomplished and nerveless, although, as I said before, his communication and control of his area will improve as his language skills develop.

While they were previewing our match this morning on Radio Five literally all they talked about was an entirely inaccurate media story about De Gea, for 10 minutes.

It does make you wonder why there's so much hate/criticism of De Gea in the media. Do they see it as our only weakness and are making sure we all know about it?

He was quality today. For all Kevin Davies "big man" talk about how he was going to put De Gea under pressure we didn't see much of that. As the game went along De Gea showed increased confidence coming off his line for the high ball, he punched and caught well today and it seems he's rapidly getting used to the differences between Spanish and English football. Really looked the part. If he comes through the next two games unscathed against Chelski and Stoke I think we can safely say De Gea's used to the Premier League. ;)

Big name signings always get this type of intensive focus from the media, in particular the tabloid press. It's nothing new.

Gary Pallister had it after an unimpressive debut and mixed first season with United and he went on to be one of the best buys Fergie ever made.

Andy Cole had it for a good couple of years after his signing and he went onto to an excellent signing.

Jaap Stam had it after the Charity Shield, Leicester game and the 3-0 at Highbury when Anelka left him for dead again. He was called a flop and recovred to be a standout player treble year.

Berbatov, Keane, Rio, and Veron. They all get this level of focus.

De Gea is just the next in line and after recalling what Pally, Jaap and Cole endured, he's far from the worst.

The pundits love to critisize our team, but this season, there is absolutely nothing, except DDG. Thats why everyone is going after him - cause there is nothing else.

I like the fact that he's gradually been improving game by game and he seems to be more aware of the pace and intensity of Premier League football. His ball distribution is just  though

He seems to be improving with every game. Distribution is brilliant and so is his shot stopping. Physicality will take a little time but he seems to be improving that too.
One think he needs to still improve though. He doesnt like to come too far away from the goal. More often than not, if the ball is outside the 'Goal Area', he doesnt come for it. He lets the defenders deal with it even when he is a better position to just come and collect.
VDS was very good at that and at times used to play almost like a sweeper.

Regarding DDG, I am as happy as the day when we bought him. You can see that he is improving with every game and that is all I want to see.

It is Fergie's and Uniteds policy to get young players and develop them, and he was right again to stick by that

How long are the media going to carry on headhunting this kid and almost willing him to fail? It was clear as day he was rotated tonight yet it was breaking news on SSN, talk about him being dropped, Lindegaard's superb display dislodging him for good etc. He's improving game on game to the extent that SAF saw fit to rest him with a much bigger game in mind, but does that matter when there is a "dodgy keeper" agenda to promote? Does it feck

The kid deserves credit for overcoming a baptism of fire to look more and more assured, not the ridicule and constant scrutiny he's being subjected to.

-Today was the first match of the season he hasn't played in.
-Today was the first match of the season we didn't win.

Thought Lindegaard did very well.

He plays for United, he's foreign, there's many other reasons the press want him to fail.

Anyway, he's had a decent start to the season with a few wobbles. He's been better and is hopefully starting to come into his own. I still feel a bit nervous when he's between the sticks but I think that's natural at this point in time.

He's young, he's made a few mistakes, it's a new league and tommorow is a big game. He's going to have to be at his best as Chelsea are not going to roll over for us like Arsenal and I hope he overcomes any big game nerves.

Interesting stat, David de Gea has made the most saves in the Premier League this season (30) guardian.

That's because due to Jamie Redknapp everyplayer and his dog decided to shoot at him.

I'm slowly getting more confident about him being in goal. He was decent against Arsenal, and very good at Bolton. Can't wait for him to get used to the league. He is a brilliant prospect.

Really glad Fergie's said that to be honest. It's something we've all thought/known for ages, and now he's thrown that out there maybe they'll think twice before criticising him unjustly.

In the event say, its England v Spain EC/WC final...penalty shoot out, and De Gea is in goal - I hope he saves all 5 penalties and winks at the cameras.

Indeed, Tottenham alone must have taken 10 pointless shots during our game.

"The great thing about the two of them is their distribution of the ball to the back four and midfield players. That's a fantastic asset in the modern game.

"David started seven moves that ended in Bolton's penalty box."

-fergie

Fergie's totally right, the media have absolutely blasted De Gea, totally unfairly, really gone on and on and on about him, analysed every mistake, and when another goalkeeper makes a similar mistake there's no mention of it. It's ridiculous. Like in the Community Shield, Hart made a very similar mistake to De Gea and there was absolutely no mention of it, and De Gea was hounded.

And his good performances are not even mentioned, not a word, the great work he does with his distribution not mentioned once. Then ESPN spend the whole pre-match talk laying into him, saying how he'll be dropped, he's no good, he then puts in a brilliant display and there's absolutely no mention of him after the match. Pathetic.

Then he's blatantly rotated in a midweek match so he can play the big match at the weekend and all the talk is about him being dropped, Lindegaard's display keeping him out the side... wtf?

They really do want him to fail, it's like they see him as our only weakness so they're going to really go to town on it. They thought they'd be able to go on about central midfield but unfortunately we've played well there so far with Cleverley-Anderson so they'll lay a bit more into De Gea.

British Media. Pathetic.

I don't give a shite was the press has to say about de Gea, he has the mental strength to not let it effect him. He's the best young 'keeper in the World, he's going to be World class. Enough said for me.

Szczesny has let in 16 goals in 3 PL matches, and there's no mention of how badly he's playing, in fact, he's getting praised!

De Gea has kept 2 clean sheets, and only let in 3 goals in 4 PL matches, and every media man and his dog has absolutely hounded him.

No wonder Fergie hates the media so much.
