Imagine a De Gea-Guardiola combo. It would act as some sort of Spanish midget tractor beam.

De Gea is part of the generation behind most 1st team Spanish players but Mata is very popular among both
and will undoubtedly give you lot an edge, if it comes down to it, for future Spanish players. Certainly more than De Gea, IMO.

Back to the Fabregas thread. :nervous:

Mata has played for both the senior and junior teams in recent years. I'm hoping him and De Gea can use their influence to lure more Spanish players. These Spanish players seem to adapt easily to the league and we could benefit from this golden generation like Arsene did with the French from the late 90's-mid 00's

Our players really love to get involved in the muppetry!
DDG is currently king muppet with his Thiago and Mata antics, but Rio texting Cristiano to come back this summer isn't far behind and Evra alerting our scouts about Adnan!

This explains everything then. De Gea must have been on the verge of deciding what he should write for his next tweet right as the shot from Bardlsey came in, rudely interrupting his thought process and putting the transfer of jaun mata in peril

The Spanish revolution at Old Trafford has only just begun

Imagine if the British had let the Spanish land in 1588, and the Germans invade in 1940. United would be made up of überhombrefußballjugadores!

David De Gea is poised to sign a new deal that will keep him at Manchester United until 2018.

De Gea’s current contract expires in two years and United are keen to tie him down to an improved deal worth £90,000 a week.

Barcelona have been monitoring the keeper’s situation , with a view to a potential summer move for the £25million-rated Spaniard.

De Gea, 23, has become United’s first-choice keeper despite a shaky start after joining from Atletico Madrid for £17.5m in 2011 and the club are keen to endorse his value with a new deal.

With skipper Nemanja Vidic quitting at the end of the season and Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra set to follow, United boss David Moyes faces a big rebuilding job this summer.
Ryan Giggs, 40, is also set to end his illustrious playing career, but De Gea is one Moyes wants to keep long-term.

Fantastic news. I really think that in long term him together with Adnan and Rafael will be our most important players so giving them contracts until 2400 will be a good thing.

It was a lot more than two games.
I'm a huge de Gea fan and even I agree, he took a good 3-4 months to settle. The Mata save against Chelsea was a huge turning point.

It was a lot more than two games.

It's funny. It was a few of months, but was certainly not every game during those two to four months. I still hear people saying that he was shit for his first 3-4 months at United, but he wasn't. Over the course of those 3-4 months he made some mistakes, showed some naivety under crosses and wasn't strong enough to dominate his area. However, he also had some great games in which he was one of our better performers. The reason his 'shaky start' went on for so long was because the media were loving it. He could have three great games and then make a mistake in one and the papers would have the "can he cut it in the premier league" headlines. His form was no worse than say, Mignolet's current form, which is being largely ignored by the papers.

Guess it depends on the severity of the word shaky. How many games did he make mistakes which costed us goals? I can remember maybe 2 or 3 instances. In terms of being a little naive, I suppose that went on for longer.

Even if he retires at United, any news report about him will mention the "shaky start" years from now.

"55 year old former United goalkeeper Sir David De Gea has been granted the Freedom of Trafford, but he really should have saved that weak shot from Shane Long at the Hawthornes"

I know we have been spoiled with giggsy but expecting players to play until they are nearly 400 years old May be a step too far

In reality his shaky start was about 4/5 months. The media kept on labelling him as shaky for a good year after that though, and on the rare occasion he did have a bad game (Blackburn springs to mind), he was instantly crucified for it. He seems to have reached 2011 Joe Hart stage now though. He messed up against Sunderland a few weeks ago and nobody seemed to say anything
