He didn't really though. We still ended up going out because of that blunder. Yes, the players should've done better on the penalties, but it would never have gotten there if it wasn't for De Gea's mistake.
Also  at the people trying to blame it on Moyes negative tactics. Jesus fecking Christ.

It was a poor mistake. That's it. It happens occasionally for all keepers and De Gea hadn't made one for a very long time. No worries, he'll get over it and back to being great.

the point is- i can't rember when was the last time DDG fecked up. I do rember him saving our asses a lot though.

not concerned at all, just feel sorry for him really as no doubt the usual hacks in the media will take this as evidence thats he's error prone ignoring his form of the past 18mths especially.
DDG is a brilliant keeper, I wouldn't swap him for anyone

Last semi mistake was against Tottenham late on, but even that I didn't really think was his fault.

Either way he was due a mistake, just unfortunate it had to happen so late.

Anyway we could have still won had the players hit a ball 15 yards forwards into a net. Simple old game eh.

It was a minor mistake, and as many have pointed out keepers make mistakes throughout the season. Last season he was solid for the most part and as a result he was voted keeper of the season. He did well in the penalty shoot-out though.

My god.

Is it the same negative tactics reponsible for DDG not having a save to make in two hours?

that "stat" is a bit irrelevent when he actually left in 3 goals, one of which he was at fault with. and if memory serves me right, he had two big saves in the first game.

To think we could have possibly had another spaniard or 2 aswell.

De Gea, like Ed, learned from his summer mistskes.

First signing Thiago's football and now this. Is it possible to not love this man?

I read recently that it was Evra who clued us in to Januzaj's potential before we signed him. Then you had Rooney more disapointed than anyone that we didn't sign Ozil. I like the idea of our players being bigger Muppets than anyone on the caf, and now De Gea is their leader.

Moyes seems to have based his transfer strategy on FM too so transfer windows should be pretty eventful from now on.

I think that Evra story got blown way out or proportion. How did he have time to go and scout youth matches in Belgium when we have full time staff there

On De Gea though, he truly has developed into a fan favourite, not an easy thing to do for a young keeper with a big price tag. So all the credit to him and hopefully he keeps up the good work on and off the pitch.

Seems like most of United players over the years like to discuss tactics and players, just like any football fans in general. I don't think any player who see football as a mere job (like Assau-Ekkoto confessed) can survive the demand of playing on very top club for a long time.

Mata said De Gea was texting him for the last 5 or 6 days about his transfer to Man Utd and kept asking him when and how he's coming.

This explains everything then. De Gea must have been on the verge of deciding what he should write for his next tweet right as the shot from Bardlsey came in, rudely interrupting his thought process and putting the transfer of jaun mata in peril

If he isn't your favourite player at the club, he bloody well should be now. The guy is an absolute legend on and off the pitch, and if he does this to other Spanish players such as Koke, he can go down in the hall of legends now!

Mr. De Gea, your next mission should you choose to accept it, involves you getting Koke and Oliver Torres to come to United. You may choose any number of team members but we suggest that you use Mata since he is in good standing with his fellow Spaniards. This message expires when they sign new contracts at their clubs.

I think fears of him leaving in a few years are lessening thanks to him seemingly wanting his buddies to come here.

He needs to bring more of his buddies. Some Spanish centre midfielders would be grand!

Twitter says Mata, Koke, and De Gea follow each other. Jokes aside, it will make it much easier to sign Spanish players with both De Gea and Mata here even more when it's a Spanish player moving to the premier league.

If this was FM they would have each other set as favoured personnel.

I agree. These things come into consideration.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think Evra was key to Januzaj getting promoted to the first team squad and going on tour, as opposed to actually being signed? I seem to remember reading something about Evra telling Ferguson that there was a Belgian lad who should be training with the first team.

I very much doubt that version of events. I'm sure Fergie woukd have known about Januzaj when he was actually at the club..

I think this is something that will mean a huge amount to him.

At some club's you would get booed or whistled or heckled, but here we sang his name and got banner's of support. I think that hard period for him would have endeared the club to him so much, he must love it here.

With De Gea's 50/50 record as our Spanish recruiter, I believe he should be given a new role at the club.

De Gea is part of the generation behind most 1st team Spanish players but Mata is very popular among both and will undoubtedly give you lot an edge, if it comes down to it, for future Spanish players. Certainly more than De Gea, IMO.
