De Gea signing a new deal would be huge! Especially after the news Vida is leaving.

Getting him on a long term deal is crucial. An absolute must, as important as a big signing.

Good news. Now for the official confirmation. Future best GK in the world.

I would be delighted if he signed a new contract, does anyone know when his current one expires?
Yeah, interesting timing. Out with the old.....
Yeah, the timing of Vidic's announcement and now this rumour suggests that the club was planning on announcement both at the same time so it's not as big a blow to see Vidic leave. Let's hope the Mirror is correct, although they probably aren't. No other papers have reported it yet.

Deflected shot from close range? Aye he should have done better, lost Bent too despite looking right at him and standing right next to him.

Ridiculous to say he should've done better. One on ones hit with that power, you simply just do your best to get a touch. You spread yourself, cover the near post, & nothing else should be asked of you - if it goes in, it's because the striker did very well to do so. De Gea got a great hand on it, and it's stupid to say he should have tipped it around the post or deflect it the other way - you don't have the choice at that distance/speed. It wasn't a drive from 30 yards.

He is the single player in our team who should be absolutely immune from criticism this season - he hasn't put a foot wrong. Hell, even the other day when he made that blooper, he was still the only one actually doing his job.

Someone of his quality has to tip that over the bar. Sorry, it was a mistake by him.

There were probably about 5-6 other players you could blame for fecking that second goal up and you guys decide to give some stick to DDG?

Christ. I'd be more than glad to start with van Persie and Rooney for not being able to hold the fecking ball in their half and both decided to 'go for it just once more'.

I actually think he's been lacking over the last couple of months, and his confidence appears to be eroding.

Still a top class keeper capable of doing amazing things, but there has been the odd lapse recently.

The second goal today is an example. If you're someone of his ability and you don't tip that over the bar, it raises questions. If you would usually push it over the bar, then it's a mistake if you don't.

People expect more from keepers at top clubs.

Absolute madness to blame him. He did very well to block the first shot from almost point blank range hit with power.

IMO he's been more solid than last season (at the same stage). He's commanding his area much, much better and looks very confident, but there are a couple of goals which he could do better in. As you said, he could have tipped it over the bar, he's strong enough to do that, but maybe I'm being harsh. I don't think anyone has blamed him solely for conceding the goal. It's just that the expectations are high, rightly or wrongly. The one thing I hate though is him having to go long. A player with his quality on the ball needs to be utilised better.

If Fulham's keeper had done that, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

I tend to find it's a common theme with keepers - if their team isn't doing well enough, gradually it affects their form too.

I agree with you on that.

If anyone's to blame there, it's Vidic imo, could argue he made two errors in both clearing the ball poorly and then losing Bent.

You can tell who has played in goal here and who hasnt.

True. I honestly don´t argue about mistakes or performances of GK anymore, because I personally find it hard to explain how it is very often way more difficult than it looks, even for top class keeper.

I´ll just say that much to the scene. De Gea did really well to get that much of the ball given the range and speed of the shot, by no means a mistake. He was also "cold", which has to be taken into consideration because it can affect your body reflexes (especially in cold weather) and concentration.

And yes, the team performance often affects a GK´s performance. The heightened pressure and stress can lead to a overperformance but more often than not it can drag you down.

Nothing he could do, and he obviously cares and has a passion for the club. Future utd captain

Surprised this hasn't been bumped yet, that was a brilliant save low at the near post.

Seriously strong wrists...

Arsenal almost snatched it if it weren't for our lad. Great save at the end the shot was drilled low and hard.

Thought the one at the bottom right corner was the save of the match. Course they barely mentioned or showed it

Some brilliant saves today. He's had a few unlucky moments recently, with deflections/shit defending leaving him no chance or just the rebound goal on the weekend, but today he saved us the point. That one deflection looked like it was going to go in again but he did well to adjust too.

No, they just pleasured themselves furiously over Sczeszny's save instead, granted it was good too. I wish Tyler was commentating, then you would truly see polar opposite reactions.

If there's one thing he's improved on this season, it's his positioning. He's made some incredible saves and I think he's having a better season than last season. There have been a few goals this season where he could do a bit better, but he's improved so much so credit to him.

The most Ian Darke could bring himself to say was that he thought it was going wide at first but on seeing it again it was on target.

Fantastic save.
