I might be nip picking but he hasn't made a top drawer save in a match for a while now... Can't recall did he made any so far this season?

Hes a brilliant player, and after RVP perhaps, he is 'pound for pound' the most 'talented' signing we have made in quite a while I think.

Well the fact that he doesn't need to make so many saves is a good thing because firstly, it means we're defending well and restricting teams' chances against us and secondly, and more importantly - teams aren't taking these ridiculous pot shots at him any more - which means that he's shrugged off the "nervous-error-prone" tag etc.

It seems there are still plenty who don't rate him. I was looking through that top 100 footballers in the world thingy on the Guardian website, where they've got Begovic in 96th, Cech in 65th and Lloris in 64th with De Gea nowhere to be seen. Unless he's in the top 10 which hasn't been revealed, but that obviously won't be the case (even I wouldn't agree with that). I know it's the Guardian and these lists are always shite, but it's indicative of how he's still overlooked in these debates. In a debate about best keepers in the league, his name should always be up there.

He's just brilliant. As a keeper myself I know a thing or two about standing between the sticks and there's virtually nothing he can be criticised for at the moment. Whenever I watch him I just always end up with a massive smile on my face.

Had an argument with my mates yesterday, all non-United fans, who were adamant DDG was nowhere near the top 3 keepers in the world. I did stop short of suggesting he was the best (sure he will be in time) but they argued Neuer/Casillas/Valdes/Courtois/Lloris/Buffon were all better and justified it by saying how he's not in the Spanish national side so therefore can't be considered one of the best.

Unless you watch United week in, week out, as I do - I don't think anyone can understand just how good this guy is.

He's sailing through games these days. He's having more and more of those games where you barely notice him. Which means he's doing everything well. Edwin-esque.

I remember watching some keeper do punditry (maybe Schmeichel or James as they're on most frequently) and they addressed that by saying that he's having to make a lot less of the spectacular saves now as his positioning and anticipation has improved so much that he's making some things look routine when they're more technically difficult. I'm not sure it completely accounts for it, but it may be a factor.

Keepers have gotten smaller over the years. They're far more athletic now. It's perhaps a crude and unrepresentative sample but look at the likes of Cech, De Gea and Hart compared to Seaman, Schmeichel and Southall. The physicality of keepers seems to have changed markedly and now it's more about speed of movement and athleticism rather than strength and presence. Maybe the fact the footballs themselves are far lighter these days has something to do with that.

To be honest, the only time I notice De Gea is when he clatters one of our defenders and you see them looking like they hit a truck while De Gea just acts like nothing happened

Someone should make a gif of him going "DEAL WITH IT"

I miss the big cat though, 16st of brilliance.

Great save near the end. Shades of Smikes there. 1 v 1 with an attacker and he rushed out and made himself big.

He had that "are you not entertained?" Gladiator moment after the save.

I think everyone on the pitch thought that was a goal. Great punch out for the subsequent corner too.

Where would we be without him and Rooney? Saved us today big time, more then made up for the one brain fart.

I think Dave saved the Christmas.

Team's last minutes of the match were almost comical but he kept his coolness to the end.

Best 'away matches' keeper in the world. What a player ! Thank You DAVE ! ! !

I felt he made a mistake in standing his ground when Chester had the shot. He maybe should have come out and closed down the player but great goalkeepers are also lucky and he's a great goalkeeper.

Thought he got a rush of head when he came out of his box unnecessary instead of letting the players get on with it. Almost gave me a heart attack

In my opinion, he paid a little of his transfer fee off with that save. Could be so vital come May. If there are 2 points in where we finish, remember this match.

Nearly shat myself when he's gone out of his 5 yard box at the end, but still, fantastic hockey-like save in the 92th minute saving us points.

The mistake towards the end of the match was probably because he had no confidence in our defence. I don't think we would've come so far out of goal for that if we were stronger at the back today. A couple of great moments at the end though to keep the three points.

Yeah, I think he was getting pissed off and wanted to deal with it on his own since the defence was a mess.

Saved our arses at the death. Though he did nearly make a total mess of it five minutes earlier. What is good to see is that he is quick to shake of the mistake and just get back to business.

Looked bigger and more confident lately. Perhaps less showy and agile, and more fundamentally sound. Looks a proper English 'keeper now, our big Dave. That punch at the end impressed me more than his save. We all know DDG can make those reflex saves, but as early as last season, you wouldn't see him get a fist on that ball and send it away like he's been doing so much of lately. Great performance, though the defence's let him down a lot this season.
