It's so fecking frustrating that you cannot do anything about the MOM thread. Seeing people who overlook DeGea in that thread makes me want to seek them out and fill their fecking head with rocket fuel and lit it. What the hell is wrong with you people who can't value the kind of contribution the man has made - if only for this match! Another keeper between those posts and we would have 3-3 !!!!!!!!!

Not sure what he was up for that attempted punch/catch but I have no problem overlooking that mistake since he saved our arses with seconds left.

You are exaggerating a bit. One good save doesn't make him automatically the MOTM. He kept us in the lead with that save, but Rooney, Smalling, Cleverley, Young and Welbeck had decent performances as well. Plenty of times he has been overlooked in that thread i agree... but today he just wasn't the best player. He had his shaky moments as well.

Anyway, 90% of what is written in this forum is mostly wrong, and should not be taken as a fuel for frustration. Just embrace it.

ps. Fletcher was in your top 3

ok

His first mistake in a very long time, and he recovered, just about. And then he saved us at the end. Top quality.

Props to this man yet again. Two top saves first half to keep us in it and had very little to do in the second. Helped win us another game today after Moyes' quotes in the morning papers.

Big reason why we kept the clean sheet and got the 3 points today. Terrific keeper and probably one of the best in the league already.

Can you seriously call him anything less than world class? because I'm seriously struggling not to. The fact that he's still so young is probably still holding people back from doing so.

He was the difference again today, along with Welbeck of course, but he really did keep us in it in that first half. Fantastic keeper.

I'm amazed how people still don't rate him in their top 3 PL GKs, let alone the best in the league. He's magnificent.

Who is better than him in the league? He's the best in England.

Probably one of our few world class players these days. He plays with confidence and is now controlling the box quite well too. However, if you disregard that amazing save against Southampton, he hasn't made too many of those ridiculous saves he made last season, has he? That second goal of theirs, clearly Valencia's fault, is something he is able to catch on his best days - you could see it in his expression also.

I thought he should have save the 2nd goal, had he been more alert. It was definitely savable.

Yeah he didn't do great on the second. Overall though he's immense.

Was probably caught more on his heels expecting Valencia to deal with that in his sleep.

He almost dived out of shock.

You've got to be kidding me.

He is already the best keeper in the league and definitely on top 5 in the world. Likely only Neuer is better and he has to make a save every 3 games.

Wouldn't swap him for any keeper in the world . He's incredible. Him and Neuer are the top two keepers around.

I've never seen a keeper that tall with reflexes so quick.

Remember when he first came and Spurs tried 5000 shots from outside the box because they thought he was poor from long range? Now the opposite is true, players are probably thinking it's a waste of time even trying from 25 yards because he is so good.

We need to get the rest of the team up to scratch soon or risk losing him in a few years. He deserves to be competing for Champions leagues.

Is he starting to become an unsung hero because he just does his job and doesn't make mistakes? It's sort of like Rio and Scholes in their heydays; they did what they did without much fuss and without people really noticing.

DDG is world class, young or not. I would welcome even more of those world class saves that made him spectacular to watch last season. However, I disagree with people saying he lacks consistency. If anything, I believe people say that because he is young - that he can't possibly be that consistent at such a young age.

De Gea pleased with form
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has revealed he is delighted with his own form this season despite the team's stuttering start.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has arguably been the most consistent performer in David Moyes' debut campaign as manager which has seen United win only 10 of their Premier League matches.

There were concerns raised over De Gea's ability to handle the physical side of the English game in his first two seasons after moving from Atletico Madrid but he has now put those behind him.

"I am pleased with my contribution so far," said De Gea. "I feel very settled here and I am happy with the way I am playing.

"I am still learning and improving all the time. That is important. I hope to carry on doing that and keep my spot in the team."

The New Year's Day home defeat to Tottenham halted United's six-match winning run but De Gea feels there are still enough encouraging signs for the club to be optimistic for the future.

"We have picked up plenty of momentum as the season has developed," he said.

"It was a real shame we couldn't get three points against Tottenham but we are playing well now.

"We need to keep performing and win as many games as we possibly can."

History

Nevertheless, it seems improbable United can retain their Premier League title, with a top four berth the only realistic hope.

It places more emphasis on the cup competitions. And as a relative newcomer to Old Trafford, De Gea is among the vast majority at United never to even play in an FA Cup final, let alone actually win the competition.

Sir Alex Ferguson never wasted an opportunity to underline the importance of a tournament United have won more often than anyone else.

And with home advantage in Sunday's third round tie with Swansea, De Gea sees no reason why they should not progress.

"The FA Cup is a competition with a lot of history," he said.

"There is a lot of romance associated with it and it would be terrific to win it.

"Being at home is a boost because we will have so many fans behind us.

"Still, Swansea are a tough side and it will be a complicated game for us."

I just hope De Gea stays for the rest of his career, the improvement in him over the last 12/18 months is unbelievable infact I can only remeber seeing Ronaldo make such progress has a Utd player in terms of steping up so quickly. With most players you notice a gradual change but he's gone from looking a bit shaky to a position where I wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in the world. He is easily the best keeper in the league and is one of the reasons to be optimistic about our future. Whoever made the decision to get him (scouts and SAF) well they made one of the clubs best ever decisions.

That was a dull interview.

Shouldn't we be tying him up to a long term deal now? He's into the third year of a five year deal and we don't want to run the risk of him entering the final two years of his contract with us playing on Thursday nights in Makhachkala.

If we've given Moyes 6 years we should give De Gea 10 years! 2 years left? who the hell handles our contracts, get him tied up. Its essential De Gea, Jones, Januzaj and Welbeck are on long term deals they are the future of the club.

Won't happen.

Makhachkala is likely to be relegated, their 0-8-11 record can't give their fans hope!

He won the EL at Atletico didn't he, and I'm pretty sure it was the highlight of his career so far. I don't think most foreign players are a snotty about the competition as people are here.
Anyway making the EL isn't even guaranteed for us atm. Winning the LC might be our best bet!
I hope we are sorting out a renewal though. He's a gem.

I was wondering whether this should go under the Moyes thread, but since De Gea said it:

De Gea: Reds put in the work

David De Gea has spoken of his Manchester United team-mates’ collective desire to improve by putting in extra practice after training, singling out Javier Hernandez for special praise.
Three consecutive 2-1 defeats have made for a difficult week for the Reds but De Gea says all the players are working as hard as ever behind the scenes.

Antonio Valencia recently revealed De Gea had been helping him with extra training and the Spaniard confirmed this work ethic extends to the whole squad.

"We frequently stay after training to practice crossing and finishing," De Gea said.
"We do it especially when there are no matches in the following days and I think the extra training helps me and the other players to improve."
De Gea is good friends with striker Chicharito and the duo’s positions on the field mean they naturally benefit from working together at the Aon Training Complex.
"We help each other – he tries to make it difficult for me and I try to make it difficult for him," De Gea added. "We always do our best and he's a player who gives his all in training.
"He is one of the most professional players I have known over the course of my career. He is truly a great player and a good friend."

The bold part made me lol a bit: a goalie helping out a winger probably with crossing .

But these comments actually give me a bit of confidence in the squad's attitude, and most of all that it is coming from a player who has come under criticism for not having the right attitude and being labelled "lazy". Great signs from Dave and represents the loyalty he has to this club. I hope he's a lifer for us, I really do.

Not related to that piece but I was worried how Steele's departure in the Summer would affect de Gea. Really glad that it hasn't had a negative effect and he's continued to get even better.

I did too. From what I heard he was as important to De Gea as Fergie was, understandable of course as he would be concentrating on him in every training session. It just shows how he is naturally developing as a goalie, or is taking on the advice of the new coach (Lumsden is it?).

DDG helping Valencia with his crossing.....that says it all!!

Our goalkeeper being able to whip in a more varied cross than our first choice right winger makes you want to cry.

We say this, but have you seen the corner challenge he did against Anderson? Valencia would do well to take hints!

No but whatever he is teaching him it isn't working, in fact it has had a detrimental effect on him.

He's Spanish though, so it makes sense. I would love to see him play a game in midfield. if we get those another 6 points that will keep us on league, maybe we'll do an experiment.
