He's Spanish though, so it makes sense. I would love to see him play a game in midfield. if we get those another 6 points that will keep us on league, maybe we'll do an experiment.

So being Spanish qualifies him as a crossing coach....we might as well get Anderson to help too.

Feel sorry for De Gea really, you just know he spends 90% of that training time up a ladder getting balls that Valencia has smashed into the top of a tree.

Great keeper! Just amazing and a privilege to actually watch him develop (Wasn't at the game today but go 5 or 6 times a season from here)

Could be a true great in the making

In good news it looks like Barca have signed Ter Stegan so hopefully that's one less bunch that'll be sniffing around for our Dave in a year or two.

Was actually thinking about this guy yesterday and the fact that he won't be getting any kind of gold gloves for a bit of time now and I was thinking about Edwin's record of not conceding a goal for 1,311 minutes. That season ( 2008-09 when it ended ) our defence consisted of Vidić and Rio in the CB ( both played most matches there ), Jonny Evans was slowly introduced into game ( 16 games total ), O'Shea played around 20 matches ( 10 as sub ), Neville and Rafael played square 16 matches both in the league and of course Evra was rocking the left right back position. In the mid it was Fletcher and Carrick with most games, followed up by Ando and Scholesy.

It was 5-6 years ago. Our best defender is probably still Vidić, our main partnership this season seems to be Vidić - Evans one, Evra is still playing nearly 100% games and Rafael ( due to his injuries ) plays as many games as he did back in that season. Our midfield is Scholesy-less and thankfully Andoless now. Carrick and Fletcher are still there but Fletcher just came back from horrible injury and he's probably our best midfielder hands down right now.

Of course, we've added Chris, Phil and ehm, yea, here's the problem I think, we've added Alex on the left-back and nobody as a true RB. Meanwhile, all of those players have aged by odd 5-6 years, and while Vidić still seems very sharp, you can't say same about Rio, Evra is tiring too fast ( just too many games for him, it's something obvious and nothing wrong done by him ), Carrick's developed into a great passer but he isn't the most mobile one. We've lost our best midfielder of Scholes, Fletcher had to adapt his role and both Jones and Smalling seem to be injury prone, add Rafael to that.

Not sure if I made my point visible enough, but is it somewhat fair to say that we've failed our defence upgrading/transition ? That includes some holding/defensive midfielders. How can David think of beating some records/getting golden gloves when we're nearly standing in the same place for 5-6 years now ?

It did strike me yesterday when I thought about it.

Our midfield is almost non-existent, so the defence is getting little protection. We're making a lot of silly errors. Not sure if Vidic is still our best defender, and I disagree that he still looks 'very sharp' - none of our central defenders do at the moment. I'm hoping it's form and confidence more than anything, but it is worrying how poor we have been defensively at times.

Anyway, at least we don't need to worry about Dave. He's class. Just a shame we need to look at improvements/reinforcements for almost every other position!

Small point but Im pretty sure Evans played more games than the other 2 during VDS's record breaking run.....I remember him singling out Evans at the time...

Cross checked it, he's played in 7 matches of Edwin's clean sheet run plus one match against Blackburn when we've won 2-1 but Edwin wasn't in goal then. (talking about PL here all the time)

Cool cheers, always wondered the exact numbers. Its actually JOS and his contribution that surprises me...

Found the article I referred to above...

Yup, he's played in 13(!) games of that clean sheet run, subbed in or since the start. I'm pretty sure he was thrown around different positions, make it RB or CDM a la Jones.

Or actually not CB because it was 14 for Vida and 14 for Rio and Evans combined.

Cost us the game.. Been pretty good in recent months so no point reading too much into it.. but that was terrible

Our XI cost us the game. We constantly allowed Sunderland to batter us for extra time.

Terrible mistake. He's saved us plenty this season so hopefully he won't be overly criticised.

It was a very bad mistake, but trying to hold on for a 1-0 win against Sunderland is shocking. We deserve to go out. He'll bounce back too. He saved 2 pens.

Exactly this. de Gea made a mistake for the first time in nearly two years. It happens.

The people deserving the blame were our toothless attack tonight (Valencia, Welbeck)

Probably a bucket of shit will flow on David now after that blunder but yea, I'd be the last one to look for the problems at GK, shame really and I feel for him.

We were winning.. He let the ball in and we weren't winning.
He cost us the game.
No shifting blame here. It's totally on him. Fergie would've dropped him for that.

He made a mistake. Sometimes that happens. He has been excellent all season and I'm sure he will continue to be.

Did you watch the game? We were at home, at Old Trafford defending a fecking 1-0 lead for the best part of an hour. It was bound to give. The players tonight who should be fecking given a bollocking are people like Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia, awful shit from the both of them.

Don't be silly. No he wouldn't. Ferguson didn't drop players every time they made a mistake, especially a very rare one.

Poor to let Sunderland win from literally 1 shot on goal - especially that one - but this comes down to our midfield and attack. The defence and big Dave were fine.

It's spreading isn't it, I mean Jones, Welbeck, Rafael, De Gea etc. have been some of our better players this year and they all fecked up. Even Januzaj had the blinkers on tonight.
