Scary to think he could be about 10 years away from his prime. Still so young to be the number 1 keeper for United. If we can keep him, I'm sure we will, I don't have any doubts he can go on and become a United legend.

Could have done better for the first goal but the wall was terrible. Couldn't do anything about the 2nd. Handled all aerial/set pieces quite well.

Think that's harsh. The wall is there to protect one side of the goal while he covers the other. If the ball goes over/under/through the wall there's not a lot he can do.

He definitely looks more comfortable dealing with corners than at the start of last season. Excellent work.

World Class player. Extend his contract before we get even worse.

One of the only bright spots this season. He really deserves his clean sheets, which is impossible seeing as the defence is put under so much pressure from the non-existent midfield.

A very composed De Gea and inspires confidence, one wonders if he could have spread himself more to make the angle more difficult. I think he is maturing into a very compotent goalkeeper for Manchester United.

You can tell he's doing very well when no-one's posted about him in over two weeks. Has dealt well with West Ham pumping the ball into the box.

Seriously, this thread should be more active when hes doing better not when he makes mistakes.

Love his loud clear shouts and how he just wipes everybody else out when going for it. And to think, hes so young for a keeper and will only get better.

Easily the best keeper in the league for me. Don't think there's much debate to be had with that one?

He won't win the Golden Glove, but that has nothing to do with his individual ability. His presence in the box has improved immensely and I'm not even worried about players taking shots outside the box anymore because him saving those long shots are the norm now, not the exception.

Nah. The thread being dead is a sign that he's doing extremely well. People no longer feel the need to bump this thread because we've come to expect it from him.

Best 'keeper in the world for me.

Very happy Moyes has continued his routine from Everton of letting his goalkeeper play all the time and I think it has done wonders for De Gea. He's improved all facets of his game since joining us and his distribution is world class.

What's there to talk about?

He didn't make an outrages save and there's no idiot like Kiestotheworld calling him shite anymore. Just a good performance from an unbelievably good keeper.

Apart from one at home against Leverkusen when we were 4-1 up, I can't think of goal he's really been at fault for since Fulham scored for 3-2 at the beginning of last season. Unless I'm being really forgetful.

Not sure if I'd go that far yet, but he's up there for sure with Courtois and Neuer in my opinion. Even his haters would have to admit he's top 5 in the world at the very least. Feel bad for him for the situation with the spain keepers though. Same with Diego Lopez. Both are far better then Casillas/Reina/Valdes yet can't get a look in. De Gea will definitely take over from Casillas after the world cup though I think.

Why not? Before he came here his reflexes were already right up there with the best in the world. He's come here and 2 years later is gobbling up every cross into the box for fun as well as pulling of some unbelievable saves.

I'm saying he's up there, but plenty of people would say Courtois has looked just as good in that time and Neuer has always been top class. There isn't much between them IMO. De Gea has the best reflexes IMO, he's just not the greatest when the strikers are through 1 on 1 with him. Obviously no keeper is favourite in that situation, but when you're discussing the best keeper in the world, you have to take everything into account. Neuer is much better at making himself big to save it in those situations. Once he improves that aspect, he'll be easily the best IMO.
Easy to forget he's only 23 as well.

Right up there with Cech Lloris Hart Begovic Krul Boruc

Oh...

While some 'elements' still sleeping in defense, he's looking class above over loads of other keepers.

Many times I almost forgot that not so long ago we had THE Edwin van der Sar.

Exact United quality we should be looking for when scouting for new additions.

I think the struggles De Gea had for a while since coming into the league could hint to what Courtois has to expect one day.

Spurs in January. But who cares.

I might be nip picking but he hasn't made a top drawer save in a match for a while now... Can't recall did he made any so far this season?

I'm not sure I see the relevance? He hasn't had to face top drawer shots in a while.

Edit: In fact in the last 4 games he's had to face 10 shots on target in total.

Mainly because we have been defensively sound (apart from Buttner...) so he doesn't NEED to. Why are you nit picking, its much better that he doesn't have to than he has to.

Why do I get laughed at when I suggest he is the best in the league anf should be in the Spanish squad for the world cup? People seem to think he still can't catch a cross to save his life.

He's the best keeper in the league by some distance right now. He makes the least mistakes out of all the so called top keepers.

He won't be going to the world cup because there's no way Casillas will be dropped and Valdes is playing well. 3rd keeper never plays so Reina is there for squad harmony and morale as he's a nutter. I expect DDG will be integrated into the squad after this world cup in preparation for the next set of international tournaments.

People who don't watch United often cannot shake their misconceptions about our players which were barely accurate several years ago, let alone now. See Carrick can only pass sideways, Rafael cannot defend, Evans is a liability etc.

Admittedly, this does actually irritate me. Carrick aside, who was given due credit last season, they deserve the recognition and it's a shame that they are still stereotyped due to teething problems earlier in their careers.

De Gea, Rafa, Carrick and Evans are amongst our very best and most consistent players. Infact, they might just be our most consistent performers in general. Poor games are incredibly rare.

He never really had any struggles IMO, it was just Jamie Redknapp and the equivalent muppets of the other channels trying to put him down. They were calling him average, decent at best whilst saying Joe Hart was best in the world!! Think it was about 2 weeks before the Madrid away game that Redknapp called him average yet he's achieved more than Redknapp and has dad did in the entire lives, including playing abroad, at just 22.

First it was the long shot v Dzeko in the CS at Wembley, then it was Kenny Dalglish putting the £35m geordie on him, then crosses in general. They basically slated him for not being rough enough on corners and completely ignored his goalkeeping and football skills. Now its back track time. He flapped at a few crosses, tame punches maybe, didn't like the roughing up in the box but he never stuffed up like Taibi, Howard, Foster once and never went walkabout like the latter, Hart and Loris, he hardly did anything major at all. Yet during this time he pulled off some amazing saves but it went mainly under the radar in the media or the usual "great save but he's dodgy on crosses still"

Age wise whilst de Gea was having two seasons at Atletico, playing in La Liga and European trophies Joe Hart was on loan to lower league clubs or Birmingham at best. It must have been a United thing, possibly the price tag. To summarise, it was a UK media cock up.

He never really had any struggles IMO

Come off it now. He was dropped and heavily rotated for his first two seasons and made 3-4 cock ups. Thing is, we knew he'd improve. I knew he'd improve because I've watched him since he was about 18. But the English media didn't, and much like how they have the knives out for Moyes, who was replacing a giant in Ferguson, they had the knives out for de Gea who was replacing another great.

We've had a few games now where our opponents have created approximately nothing, but I have a vague memory of an excellent save in the last CL game. (unless it was one of those seemingly spectacular reaction saves which turn out to be more or less ball-to-hand/foot).

He is looking better with every performance. His allround confidence is inspiring the back four, a real pity that we let west ham get a consolation goal this weekend.
