Fabregas did. Although De Gea would most likely want to join Barca if they were interested I don't think he'd start wearing Barca shirts and acting like Fabregas did to force the move. He'd just do the 'Barca is a dream but I'm happy in Manchester' speech.

Don't confuse players or backgrounds. Cesc was a Catalan cantera player, he was always coming back - Gooners should get over it already. Most Barcelona fans think he could've done more to push for the move or bring the price down with a transfer request but Fabregas did nothing apart from privately letting Wenger know it was time. De Gea wouldn't have the shirt prank played on him and I doubt very much he'd ever say it was his dream to play for Barcelona. Players who come through the youth ranks of Atletico don't aspire to play for RM but they respect Barcelona more. So if David was indeed homesick, there's no question that dream would then be to play for Barcelona.

If Barcelona decided he was their #1 and made it clear to him or his advisors that they wanted him, I'm pretty certain he would be push for it. Still, I doubt very much he'd publicly push for it or that he's their #1 target. But as jojo pointed out, Barcelona doesn't pay big money for keepers. I do think Courtois intrigues them and that they think they can bring the price down but probably not enough for them to be happy paying it. Even money, I think they'd opt for Courtois but I personally prefer Ter Stegen.

Is ter stegen a cheaper and better long term replacement than say Cortois and De Gea? Because all three are good young keepers and I reckon if I had the choice between two good expensive goalkeepers, and one that was also good but cheaper I'd go for the latter. I also don't buy that De Gea is homesick, its the same papers reporting that Buttner is, but at the same time wants to move on loan to Beskitas which is even farther away from the netherlands than England. Also people have to bear in mind the media have it agianst him and us, they will do anything to dent his confidence or our confidence in him. I also don't believe EVERY player in spain who don't support the big two would want to go to them, he could easily have picked them over us in the summer 2011 but he didn't. Just like every english player doesn't necessarily want to play for us - Ramsey is a fan for example.

I just really like Ter Stegen's character for a keeper. He has a unique one, makes me appreciate all the Oliver Kahn comparisons. Plus, I think he has fantastic reflexes/athleticism.

I was just pointing out if De Gea was homesick, I have no idea if he is or isn't

I don't think he is, otherwise the low confidence would have shown itself, but every goal that gets past him just seems to go past him (literally and metaphorically) I've never seen someone so unfazed or angry, which is I think is a good sign because a good goalie has to shout at his defenders and show them what went wrong, and he's been starting to do that. In interviews he said he is very settled and actually doesn't mind the food . I honestly don't know whats keeping his girlfriend in spain, is it her? Or him, or just media talk.

The defense for Barcelona lacks a lion (Puyol not withstanding) and even a goalkeeper would be an asset to have as a lion...Someone to give them a kick up the backside every now & then

Would Courtois be cheaper? I think he's set his stall in pretty much the same way De Gea did at Atleti. They've both won the Europa League and the super Cup whilst there. Courtois has the Copa Del Rey to his advantage, though obviously it's not just about trophies. I think De Gea is better than Courtois currently is, but to me, Courtois looks better at Atleti than De Gea was during his time there.

Can't see him being a cheap option.

I'd say that's spot on. Considering the current and past season both of them are definitely among the Top5 keepers in the world IMO. The likes of Casillas, Cech, Buffon and Neuer are the usual top keepers but honestly I haven't really seen anything from them these past two seasons that would make me think they deserve to be called that. The likes of De Gea and Courtois are steadily improving and are already at a level that they can be called world-class.

IMO, Courtois has benefitted from Simeone's Atlético being extremely solid defensively, but he's proven himself to be a match-winner too on several occasions (for the Belgian NT as well he's been a stand-out performer). For me, Courtois makes very few mistakes and is extremely cool and calm under pressure; he's also better on catching and anticipating crosses IMO, more in control of his area. De Gea is the one with a penchant for the unreal, the acrobatic match-winning saves (more consistently anyway); he's got great agility and probably the best reflexes of any keeper at the moment. On the balance of that, I'd put De Gea ahead of Courtois as well, but I think these two could well be vying for legendary status throughout the next decade for sure.

Is Claudio Bravo one of the options or is just chilean media bullshit?

he is quite good with his feet, but i cant feel 100% confident with him. There's always a chance he can fecked up... despite playing 89min brilliantly doing impossible saves, he has that tendency...

Swap deal with Fabregas, no cash involved, would you take it?
it's a good question. Heart says no head says maybe...

If I'd be happy to see us pay £40m for Fabregas, can I really claim we would/could/should turn down £40m for De Gea at this moment in time?

I would say it makes perfect footballing sense but if the decision was left to me I would struggle to part with our Dave but if we were to allow such a deal to happen and bring in Begovic then it would be bloody tempting.

Begovic is overrated.

Well yeah, it's inevitable, but just because he's Spanish doesn't mean he'll automatically want to jump into their arms. He seems to be very happy here and I hate it when people talk of the club as if it's mid-table, regardless of the Spanish giants 'pulling power'. I'm sure he feels privileged to be here, just as any player his age would.

To the vast majority of players in world football, there is a pecking order. And United are below Madrid and Barcelona in this pecking order.

So, doesn't mean he'll DEFINITELY leave us. Most people are saying its when not if, which annoys me. We aren't THAT far down that we can't say no to them and keep our players.

only to us, because after Xavi and Iniesta, Fabregas is the only top midfielder left in the Barcelona squad. he is going nowhere.

anyway i wouldnt swap De Gea for no one. I would only let him go at the age of 33, if he wants to.

Loved Dave today. Two or three big big saves, distribution excellent as usual and he was commanding whenever he came out the box or kicked long. I am not blaming him for the second goal, but he probably should have saved the free kick and the look on his face afterwards tells you he knew it as well.

Loved him sticking it to Walters at the end too.

I think with the height and power on the freekick it had a chance to beat any keeper even though it wasnt right in the corner. Other than that we could have lost 4-3 without him

Was great again today, one of our best and consistent players this season.

Can't remember De Gea having a bad game this season. A lot of why we're not further down the table is down to DDG. If we make anything of this season it'll be in large part down to him.

Pretty much kept us in the game today, if it wasn't for him in the first half we would've been 2-3 down. Only player who has not let us down yet this season.

Terrific performance from him yet again. Unlucky with the freekick as I thought he got a hand to it but the crossbar helped it in. Apart from that he was flawless and kept us in the match! Probably our best player so far this season and that's not a good thing considering he is our goalkeeper!

Moyes: "Defensively though we weren't at our best today and I have to thank my goalkeeper for doing his job really well too."

By his own standards, he should be saving that free kick.

Saved our skin though, definitely one of our best players.

It was a pretty great free kick to be fair.

I know we've seen him pull off a few impossibles from free-kicks but that one would've been especially difficult.

He got his hand to it without even being at full stretch, I agree it was difficult becauseit was so close to the bar but I think he will be disappointed, and would be annoyed with himself if he conceded that goal if he had another attempt at it.
