We'll just have to revisit this

Yeah, fair enough, anything can happen in football but it would really be incredible if any of the younger 3 lacked ambition enough to want to sit on the bench till Reina retired. I dont get the fuss about reina anyways, havent seen enough of ter stegen and courtois to comment but De Gea is the better keeper already.

Reina would be a backup, incidentally, and the fact that he is a former cantera player, would help in the transition of the younger keeper. Plus, a big club has to have 2 solid keepers. Pinto played quite a bit over the years and was a significant squad player - he too will be missed

Pinto retiring or wasn't he offered a new contract?

Crazy bastard, but good entertainment.

Barca aren't getting De Gea soon.

They've cheaper options in Ter Stegen and Courtois/

Expiring contract. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out because he's also tight with Messi, wonder if Leo will be pushing for him to stay.

Would Courtois be cheaper? I think he's set his stall in pretty much the same way De Gea did at Atleti. They've both won the Europa League and the super Cup whilst there. Courtois has the Copa Del Rey to his advantage, though obviously it's not just about trophies. I think De Gea is better than Courtois currently is, but to me, Courtois looks better at Atleti than De Gea was during his time there.

Can't see him being a cheap option.

He's a decent backup to have. If you could have someone like Reina as a backup, then well played. Not everyone can have a Casillas as number 2

Wouldn't it be a bit risky to get rid of both GK's in the same summer? Brave move. I take it your B team GK isn't good enough for the step up to "2nd choice" when you replace Valdes?

Jordi Masip is the B keeper and has trained with the 1st team over the past year, there are doubts whether he can make the leap - of course, similar was said about Reina. Ondoa is a bit younger and a better prospect but he's still years away

I wouldn't get rid of both keepers at the same time either but those are the rumours. Oier, former B team GK, is also with the 1st team but I don't think he can make the step up yet either.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure I've seen Masip play in preseason or come on for Pinto once. I might have been tripping though.

It's a good time to buy a GK though. None of the "big teams", except maybe Man City ("rich team") are in need and there might be about 2-3 quality GK's available.

(ter Stegen, Courtois, Begovic to name a few).

Hell, maybe Barca will finally get Real back for signing Figo and go in for Casillas!

Well I can't see him going to loan to Atletico again next season. Cech has regained his form in the last season or so and will be only 32 which is young for Goalkeepers. It'll be easier for Barcelona to get Courtois than DDG. I've a sneaky feeling that they'll go for Ter Stegen though.

They also had lots of rumours about Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Daniel Agger being 'open' to join you too this summer.
Doesn't always happen.

He probably would be open to a move. Of course, we won't be willing to sell and that will end the matter.

Open does not equate to a done deal

The keeper search officially begins now for a Valdes replacement so the timing of the rumour is understandable, just who would leak such a story - the club, Mendes, De Gea etc? Maybe Barcelona are gauging his reaction to it, maybe Mendes looking to improve his contract or the player himself has thrown his hat into the ring...no idea. I expect a Ter Stegen rumour to crop up soon as well now that De Gea & Courtois have both been in the headlines

I think it's inevitable that the 2 Spanish clubs will be after him at some point.

Well yeah, it's inevitable, but just because he's Spanish doesn't mean he'll automatically want to jump into their arms. He seems to be very happy here and I hate it when people talk of the club as if it's mid-table, regardless of the Spanish giants 'pulling power'. I'm sure he feels privileged to be here, just as any player his age would.

What makes you think that?

We can only speculate obviously, but I'm basing it on the fact that he would be playing at the best club in his home country. I'm not saying he would be actively seeking a move though. If Barcelona came in with a good offer and we were willing to play ball, I don't think De Gea would be against it.

DDG's contract expires in 2016. Incidentally the Sun reports that he's basically agreed on a two year extension and is getting a 15k payrise. Let's see who's right.

It's The Sun though, so don't build your hopes up too much.

Yeah, true. I think he will be due a new contract soon anyway though.

The club usually reward young players who step up to another level.

The Ter Stegen idea has been rumoured for months, with some of the Barcelona based reporters speculating that a pre-contract has already been agreed.

I doubt Barcelona would be willing to pay the kind of price we'd set next summer. It'll be the year after, if he hasn't renewed his contract, that the fee might fall.

It's for players like De Gea that I hope the Glazers abandon their policy of letting contracts run to the last year before renewing. We need to keep ensuring we have De Gea tied down long term. He is fast becoming near irreplaceable. So if he ever does decide he wants to go we will need a huge sum in order to get a replacement of a comparable standard.

That said, I've seen or heard nothing to suggest he will want to leave, but there will be speculation about him all the time. He's that good and he's Spanish so the big two in Spain are going to be linked with him almost every summer.

Januzaj is a young looking 30 year old. So was Pogba.

Entirely different with youth players though as there's limits to the contract they sign to turn professional and the one to keep them as a youth player when they leave the academies.

Fair point from both yourself and KC then, but suffice to say I still hope we tie him down to long term contract after long term contract.

I doubt they would pay that sort of price either but players who push for a move can bring prices down. And just like that, Ter Stegen rumours resurfaced this past week. Every rumoured pre-contract for Barcelona has proven to be accurate in the last few years so I'm buying this one.

I doubt he would want to go to Madrid anyway so once Barca get themselves a good young keeper we should be home and dry.

I remember seeing in an interview he would never go to Madrid due to his respect to Atletico, so you're right in if Barca buys another goalie, perhaps Courtois or Ter Stegen?

Fabregas did. Although De Gea would most likely want to join Barca if they were interested I don't think he'd start wearing Barca shirts and acting like Fabregas did to force the move. He'd just do the 'Barca is a dream but I'm happy in Manchester' speech.

Let's hope Barca get Ter Stegen then, we'll get to keep De Gea long term. If Barca made a serious attempt to get him I don't see De Gea wanting to stay here, Barca is just too attractive for a Spanish player. Still, they'd have to pay a fortune.

I don't see him leaving personally. I also don't get how his girlfriend can't come and live with him, she's not exactly got visa problems and no money so I think that's a stupid reason why he would leave. He also appears really settled and I think Barca would HAVE to give us one of their quality players in return, no way we would sell him and not get anything in return. Plus I don't want a goalkeeping crisis and Lindegaard back in the first 11...
