Courtois would cost Barca just as much as De Gea in my opinion. He's made a strong case for being the best in the world at Athletico. I'm also quite sure Jose would rather let him rot than sell to Barca.

 Courtiois still makes plenty of mistakes. Best in the world, brilliant. He's also a player Chelsea don't seem to need and who wants to stay in Spain. You'll make money on him if you sell him for sure, but cost as much as De Gea? Thats funny

I know the discussion has gone onto another topic but I didn't get the chance post match. WHAT A SAVE!

Moments like that are what you look back at if you have a successful season.

You lot said that when the other big Spanish side came after one of your best players.

And Reina? That's mental if they are after him.

The money was 80m 4 years (5 years by next summer) ago for that player. Whoever comes for De Gea will have to comfortably beat the £33m Juve paid to Parma 12 years ago. That said, I see him at United for few more years but don't think he will retire here. He is Spanish and would like to move on to one of the big Spanish club at some stage in career.

That's why I want Barca to go after a promising young keeper like Courtois or ter Stegen, rather than Reina. Lessens their chances of going after De Gea in the future, and he has already said that he won't join Real.

Ter Stegen will be easiest of the three for Barca to get. Given Petr Cech is still only 31-32, so Chelsea won't be guaranteeing Courtois first team next season I guess. Just checked on transfermarkt site, Stegen's contract is till 2015 while other two have till 2016. Considering all this, hopefully we won't have to worry next summer about De gea and then 3-4 more years by giving him new contract.

I won't be worried at all about his future here if Barca sign one of Courtois or ter Stegen. But the worry for me is that they will go for the Catalan option in Reina, and when that fails they'll try to spunk a lot of cash on our Spaniard.

Fail as in? Barca failing in signing him or Reina as a player in Barca team? The former can't be an issue as it is safe to assume he has played his last game for Liverpool, especially when Mignolet is doing well. About latter, I don't know. He is decent GK and don't see him being disaster there and can last 2-3 seasons more.
Yes it would be better though if Barca get a younger GK so we can feel safer about De Gea's future.

You obviously don't watch much of him. He's one of the main reasons Athletico have the best defence in the league. He pulls off top saves all the time and pretty much won the cup on his own for them last season against Real. They are both top keepers, they'd go for a similar price.

People clearly haven't seen much of him judging by some comments on this page, also, the notion that he isn't particularly needed/wanted by Chelsea is maddening.

"If it were up to him, he would have had me already for next season."
"I told him that this is a very important year for me. I want to remain as the first choice ‘keeper for Belgium in a year where we can go to the World Cup in Brazil. To do this I have to keep playing in a team at a high level because the competition for the national team is very hard."

While I agree that both De Gea and Courtiois are at a similar level, I'm inclined to believe that De Gea would go for a lot more right now. For one, DDG is obviously at a bigger club in United and has proven that he can handle it.

Athletico are also a big club, which is why you paid so much for De Gea. Chelsea wouldn't sell cheap at all. We never sell players on the cheap, asides from an injury prone Robben. I'd be surprised if any of them were let go for less than £30 million, given the potential future years of service.

With Cech looking good for 3-4 years more, it's hard to see Courtiois getting game time. Next year will be a real headache for Mourinho. I can't see Courtiois being on loan to At. Madrid for another year. One of them will have to go.

I watch lots of him. The hype is insane

He looks a top prospect (Courtois) but it's crazy to suggest he's command a similar transfer to De Gea. If Chelsea recieved a bid of £25 mil I am sure we'd sell, if United received a similar bid they tell the bidder to do one.

You think? Chelsea know Cech won't go on forever and finding a good replacement is bloody hard. Courtois will hopefully be out goalkeeper for at least the next 10 years. He's shown his ability at Athletico, combined with the fact we never sell cheap. It'd show incredible short sightedness on our behalf to sell him for any price to be honest. The only way I think we would accept a bid for him is if he desperately wanted to leave.

Cech is only 31, Courtois won't (and should not) wait the 4-5 years it'll take for Cech to leave, the timing is just not right.

We paid about £7 mil for Courtois, if we make a £20 mil profit on a player who never even trained with us the club won't see it as a terrible deal.

I agree he shouldn't wait the few years, I'm hoping that Cech moves on soon, to allow Courtois to come in and be first choice, or the club bring him back next season to challenge and let the best goalkeeper play. (Unlikely I know) In terms of profit it would be a good deal, however we would be stuck when it comes to replacing Cech when he does leave. I love Cech and he has been an excellent goalkeeper and a great servant to the club, however I'd hate to waste a talent such as Courtois.

If you watch lots of him, then you'll understand the hype. What exactly is the difference between him and De Gea then? Seeing as you watch lots of both of them.

They are two different players for one thing.

De Gea on last season's form is a better shot stopper and makes less mistakes.

Atletico defend very well as a team, right from the front. Thats why they have a good defensive record.

He won't be, and you could quote me on this.

True. If Mourinho really thinks Courtois is that good, he should bring him back and sell Cech. It's what Leicester did, selling Banks to make room for an even better prospect in Shilton.

If nothing else, de Gea is still regarded as one of the best keepers in the world despite being a big step further on in his career. He made his move to one of the European elite, came to the Premier League (where, as we have all been made so very aware, it is harder to succeed as a keeper), overcame the subsequent media examination, and has come out of it all with his reputation even further enhanced.

In other words, he's more proven. He's proven his quality in a way Courtois won't have until he actually plays a couple of seasons as Chelsea's first choice. If that ever ends up happening.

That was always 1 of Fergies best talents as a manager, knowing when a player has reached his peak and is ready to be moved on for a younger better prospect.

Cech may not be finished now, but if they can secure the future with arguably a similar if not potentially better player, perhaps next season will be the right time.

Of course its always a gamble, and Cech has been a fantastic player or Chelsea, but times do move on.

But I thought teams in Spain couldn't defend as well as in the Premier League? :smirk:

You're not supposed to compare these sweeping generalisations, you know. Even thinking about them for too long isn't advised. Jesus Vato, you need to read more Daily Express.

The plan is to get Reina and a young keeper, not one or the other

I'd be gutted if DDG went to Barca, he's turning into world class.
