I'm still over the moon that we have big Dave. What a shot stopper! surely he has no equal in Europe, in that regard.

I can't really put my mind on when we last saw someone with that shot-stopping ability. He makes most keepers career highlight look shitty with just his season highlights.

He isn't even one to make the easy look difficult either so it is ridiculous how skilled he is in this area.

The first save is excellent. Incredible anticipation. You'd never blame a goalkeeper for letting in a close ranger one on one like that, but the fact he still stops it anyway. Completely reads what the striker is going to do.

I bet he played alot of 5 a side when he was a kid. It's where feet goalkeeping is born. De Gea is the master of foot saves.

This kid will be the best in the world before long :) and we will do well to keep hold of him

We'll do well to keep hold of him if Barca make him a prime target, but other than that, I've no worries. Lets not undermine just how big a club we are though, I'm sure that De Gea certainly isn't.

I doubted the lad once... all I can say now is that he amazes me... he's young and the players have full trust him.

He really does inspire confidence, I had my initial doubts but he just keeps getting better and better.

You seem to be completely unaware that football (and Manchester United, and Sir Alex and his transfer strategy you love criticising so much) existed before the 2000s.

You are better than falling to that level Brwned.

I can't really without looking up highlights decide who would be the previous one with his shot-stopping abilities. I am aware that there has existed keepers with similar shot-stopping abilities but I would have to go and watch matches from them and highlight-reels to decide who is better.

I know Schmeichel was a great shot-stopper but I don't think he is above DDG in that aspect, of course he is in every other aspect though.

Every other aspect? I'm not so sure about that.

De Gea is a much better shot-stopper, pure and simple. No debate whatsoever, and Schmikes was admittedly phenomenal. De Gea also has better feet, by far. Schmikes had the better throw, maybe the best of all time, and while I can see De Gea closing in on that area I doubt he will ever be accurate and have as long a throw as the Great, well, Dane. But where Schmikes really stood out was his leadership on the pitch, whether taking "command in the box" on balls or berating a defender who deserved it. De Gea doesn't have that in him yet and only the gods can say whether he ever will.

But I'd bet a week's pay that De Gea is a significantly better keeper right now that Schmikes was at the same age.

Personally, I think that's ludicrous. Not the suggestion per se, but the cast-iron certainty you state it with. Schmeichel was one of the best shot-stoppers EVER. No one was "much better" than him at saving certain goals, never mind "pure and simple".

 it's oblivious to him that we had one of the best shot stopper of all time, in the 90's.

Just how you can come up with that statement? I even rate (before injury) Peter Cech as slightly better shot stopper than de Gea. And the big Dane was better than Cech.

Nice pic, kid cunto.

Still waiting for the chance of the first ever international cap with the senior team :D

I am afraid that someday, giants as FC Barcelona or FC Bayern knock the door for him :nervous:

Love that photo. Would make for a great desktop wallpaper.

Eric Steele seemed to really be building De Gea's character as well as his ability as a keeper. They had their little quirky ways of dealing with things - like the quiff thing. I hope him and the new GK coach get off to a good start. Being Manchester United's number one goalkeeper comes with a much greater pressure than that at any other PL club. I'm sure that will be anticipated by the incoming coaching staff though.

That beach pic shows just how much he's bulked up

I thought that Ruud10 was going down with the ship? Oh well..

Think about it though, what would the caf be without a bit of comic relief? He's basically the American Devilish. Language issues, a distinct lack of self-awareness and a whole host of bizarre "original" ideas. He'll probably never quite reach the lofty heights of A SAF’s hairdryer witnessed and commented by Devilish but there's no reason to cut him down in his prime before he's even given a chance.

How long until he's recognized as the best in the PL? I mean I'm aware of his inclusion in the first XI this year but it seems that the majority still view Hart as #1 and that the main reason for his exclusion is just a rough patch (form-wise) and that De Gea still isn't "all that".

I don't wanna get ahead of myself by saying De Gea's clearly the best GK in the PL, but I think it's safe to say that should he stay on this path and continue to improve the way he's been doing he should be getting that title for good

Yeah I suppose it's good to have a few ridiculously controversial characters around the Caf. However, who the hell says stuff like
only the gods can say rather he ever will

I'm still trying to figure out if Ruud is actually wumming or not, sometimes it's hard to tell.

Roundish, laughing green emoticons other have put up taken into account, De Gea is the better shot stopper.

Not to say he was miles ahead of Schmikes. THAT would be ludicrous, but he is easily the better shot stopper already, and David has another 6, maybe 8, years before he reaches his peak? And yes, Peter was one of the best keepers EVER. It's hard to remember now, but Schmikes had more than a few palm on face moments on shots and I'm pretty sure someone put up a video of his howlers here a few months ago testifying to that. (All keepers have those moments.). Is Peter Schmeichel the greatest keepers all time? Maybe not, but the case for it can be made. Greatest keeper of the prem era? For me, there's no doubt about it. There's no need here to explain why, but if we're looking into the sole quality of shot-stopping, Peter has already shown s stuff Peter never did. Schmikes would NEVER -- no fukkin way -- have saved Mata's free kick. And even though De Gea got beat on Modric's strike at OT, take a close again at house close De Gea actually got the shot despite everything about that shot. I know "almost" doesn't mean much here, but De Gea actually almost got there. There is no fukkin way Schmikes would have gotten anywhere near the ball.

But as far as all other keeper qualities, Peter can put his hand on David's shoulder and tell him, "Young man, keep working hard." But when it comes to shot-stopping, Grasshopper has snatched the pebble from Master Po's hand.
