Nice comments to read - Eric Steele said at the awards dinner that DDG was now looking for a house to buy in the area, so hopefully he will be even more settled next season despite all the changes going on at the club.

He hasn't bought a house until now?

I should imagine he was renting what would be described as a "very nice" apartment. Loads of footballers don't "buy" a house until they're settled.

Yeah, I suppose so. Let's just hope he can convince Edurne to move there soon enough!

Indeed; I remember reading that the club put Tevez up in a house while he was here but he left it in such a state that the club apparently had to take the costs of repairing it out of his final pay packet.

Exclusive interview: De Gea

David De Gea was interviewed for Old Trafford's 12th Man - the official newsletter for all season-ticket holders..

What do you like best about playing in the English Premier League?
Playing for United, one of the greatest clubs in the world, is always a source of pride to me. Every time I pull the shirt on, I'm pulling on the history of this club.

How do you like to relax away from football?
I spend time at home, with my family. I watch a lot of films and like to play video games with my friends. Normal stuff, really, but I'm not in my house all the time. I often go shopping, go for a walk and go into the city centre. I put the subtitles on for English films so I can distinguish better what they're saying, which helps improve my English.

How often do you get together with your family and friends?
Well, I relax with my family a lot. I go out with friends, go bowling, have a meal. I relax and have a good time.

If you weren't a footballer what would you be?
All I can remember is wanting to be a footballer. It's all I've ever wanted to do and it's hard for me to even consider doing anything else. I guess if football wasn't an option, I would have concentrated a bit harder at school and put my mind to my studies. I would probably have gone to university and tried to attain a degree related to sport. I also enjoyed history at school, learning about important dates and events.

As a young boy, how did you first get involved with football?
I played with my father from a very young age. The first thing I remember is playing football in my home our outside. It was all I did! I joined Atletico Madrid's Academy when I was young.I was around five or six years old and just a small boy.

Goalkeepers sometimes score goals. Although you've never scored a goal professionally, have you ever scored in a match as a goalkeeper?
Not as a keeper but, as a youngster, I played as an outfield player. I was a forward and scored lots of goals but eventually settled on being a goalkeeper. I think I've always liked to pass the ball and dribble - in the Spain under-age teams, I used to practise with the ball at my feet. And, at a club like United, it's important to be able to support the team in every way.

Explains so much about his use of feet to save sometimes. The English media seem to think its a bad thing. But he uses it in the right situation and is comfortable with it.

Yeah that is what stuck out for me. I cant see how it isn't beneficial. There is also a DHL (I think) video with him and Hernandez doing some challenges and he's clearly very skilled on the ball.

David de Gea hopes to return to Spain in future.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea hopes to return to Atletico Madrid one day but insists that at the moment he is very happy in England.

Speaking to AS, De Gea said: “To win at Madrid’s Bernabeu in a final, I cannot ask for anything more because they also have qualified for the Champions and have made a great season. Hopefully in the future I can return, you never know. It has been and will always be my home.”

De Gea will return to Carrington to start pre-season with United next month and says that it will be strange without Sir Alex Ferguson at the club. De Gea added: “Obviously there will be a change, he was the coach for many years, many titles and many joys. Now comes a new coach I think it will continue in the same line of Sir Alex and dynamics will be similar.

“Playing for United, one of the greatest clubs in the world, is always a source of pride to me. Every time I pull the shirt on, I’m pulling on the history of this club.”

I don't mind him saying things like this, he left there got a reason so if he goes back it will be later in his career. A lot of United fans seem to live in a constant fear that Real Madrid will come knocking at some point & De Gea will jump at the chance but with that kind of love for Atletico there is every chance he will have no desire to play there.

De Gea upset by Steele departure
David de Gea is believed to be disappointed by David Moyes' decision to dismiss Manchester United's goalkeeping coach Eric Steele.
Steele left Old Trafford along with assistant manager Mike Phelan in a clear-out of the coaching staff as Moyes prepares to appoint his own backroom team.

But ESPN understands De Gea had hoped that Steele, with whom he had established a close relationship, would have stayed on.

Steele has been in contact with De Gea since at least 2010, even though the 22-year-old only moved to United in 2011, when he was signed as the replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

He also learned Spanish to help him communicate better with De Gea, whose form in the second half of last season earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Moyes is expected to bring in former England international Chris Woods, his goalkeeping coach at Everton, to replace Steele, who had been part of Sir Alex Ferguson's staff since joining from Manchester City in 2007.

No quotes and a very vague article so I'm not sure how they know but it wouldn't be unsurprising if he was 'unhappy' about the decision.

Quite possibly my 'favourite United player' at the moment. Endured a whole heap of shit and has become the best keeper in England in next to no time. Here's to many more years.

Lads doing a great gandolf impression tonight

Hope he gets an improved contract soon, deserves it.

How he saved that free-kick will never know, outstanding tonight.

I see no reason our goalie can't take our free-kicks. I'm sure it happens in Latin America.

I can think of one very obvious one: you can't have your keeper all the way up the opposition end of the pitch when the ball breaks to them. It would be a case of score the direct free kick or you're odds on to concede a goal.

Any clips of his performance today? Read he made some really good saves?

I can only find this one save so far, there was a good one from a free kick - it'll be probably be uploaded somewhere later. He hasn't conceded yet in the Euros(3 games), although Spain haven't really been tested much.

De Gea hasn't played for the senior team.

Thats why its mental... based on last seasons form he should not only be called up but should merit a start over Valdes and Casillas.

We're watching a championship winning, EPL team of the year keeper playing against U21's.

He's 21 so it's reasonable for him to win trophies at his level now, his time in the senior team will come. Casillas doesn't have that much left at this level and Valdes will probably be finished once he leaves Barca.

I was at the game last night and he was terrific. Called for action three times, three excellent saves.

Also reports from Israeli beaches tell how much upper body strength he has gained.
