Hart would have worn a more conveniently fitted tshirt in the first picture.

DDG has always struggled with before and after comparisons.

I think DDG has to start against Norwich, he has been in good form and as we have seen, he thrives on playing. Hopefully will not be rested. We will also need him to be in top form against Madrid if we are to go through, they are just too good going forward not to create at least 2 or 3 really good chances to score, especially on the counter as we will be more attacking at home, although not the usual all out attack.

Agreed. There shouldn't even be a question about giving De Gea a "rest" until after the Real Madrid game.

GK don't usually get rested as much as outfield players anyway and we has probably played a lot less games than he should have done already this season so I don't see any reason to rest him at all, maybe if league is won early then Anders might get a couple games to make sure he gets a medal.

We weren't resting him for cup games, so I don't see why would we rest him for Norwich game either.

Unbelievable.

I'm watching Everton/Oldham right now and Oldham score on a corner where the header was taken well inside the six yard box. Goal scored. Timmy, the American, Howard rooted to his line.

Where is the outrage over dodgy keeping? Not a single critical word was spoken re Howard.

Had that been De Gea...

Howard isn't playing for Manchester United though, we already know he wasn't up to it at this level. De Gea is playing at a level above Howard so he'll always be under more scrutiny and needs to be a better keeper than Howard ever was.

Are you even serious?

Because no one gives a shit about Everton and Tim Howard. Plus he is 30+ already. Why would anyone give a crap if he lets in goals? De Gea is an up and coming youngster who has the potential to be the best in the world in the future. On top of that he is playing for one of the biggest clubs in the history of football. As a result, his every move and every action will be scrutinized more than any other keeper in the league.

Everton are not some godforsaken third division club. They're a legitimate contender for a CL spot (certainly for a Europa league spot) and have in fact taken some big scalps in recent years -- including ours. Twice, as far as I can recall...one time effectively, and cruelly, ripping the league trophy right out of our hands.

Tim Howard is not some unknown journeyman -- he was once a United starter in a crucial CL semifinal and is the starting keeper for a national team which may be middling but is known for outstanding keepers.

What would have been described as a shocking schoolboy mistake had it been De Gea was completely ignored because it was Howard. And, in fact, the commentators (I have no idea who they were) actually said "Howard could do nothing about it."

Absolute bollocks.

It's getting a bit tired now.

Yes, he probably gets singled out a little more than other keepers.

Man United sell stories and generate discussion/hits/viewers.

We know he's a great keeper who's only going to get better, so feck it.

Agreed.

I was very protective of our David for ages but I really don't feel the need to be anymore.

It was becoming a chore as well

I wasn't saying Everton aren't a big club or that they're not playing at a high level but let's face it - they're no Manchester United. They're trying to qualify for the CL, we're trying to win it. There's a big difference in quality and expectations. As such we should expect our players to be better. Manchester United players will always come under more scrutiny and pressure, it comes with the territory. Don't know why it would be any different for De Gea.

As for Howard, yes he is a good keeper, but he was never really good enough for the level United play at. It's kinda self-evident: if he had been good enough he'd still be here.

Anyone seen the "before" and "after" picture of David? The first one was from the day he signed for us and the other from a couple of days ago. The boy has seriously bulked up.

It's on the previous page and it's not the most useful as he's wearing a baggy shirt in one and a tight top in the other, so telling how tall he is is nigh-on impossible

Yes, but isn't it true that Howard is widely considered to be one of the league's elite keepers, perhaps even better than De Gea? He's undeniably a keeper with vastly more experience than De Gea and Everton are a very big club.

But if your point is that a United keeper is held to a much different standard than the keeper of any other club in the league -- be it City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Everton -- I couldn't agree with you more.

At any rate, let's hope this madness has ended.

Yep, that's pretty much my point. I think United are held to a standard and scrutiny that no other team in England has to match. I don't mean that in a RAWK-ish "it's a conspiracy" kinda way, it's just a natural consequence of our history and dominance of the PL since SAF took over. Why wouldn't the biggest and most successful club in the country be held to a higher standard? I'd imagine it's the same for the likes of Real, Bayern and a few others. So our players are expected to be better than those of the other clubs and any weaknesses they have will come under huge criticism and scrutiny. De Gea just has to deal with it, it's part of the price you pay for playing for one of the elite clubs.

Lovely bit of skill in the end to keep the ball in play. That was genuinely the only time he really had to exert himself to do anything, will snap up the clean sheets thank you!

Wow, Norwich actually had 0 shots on target and 0 shots on goal. Another easy clean sheet for De Gea.

Boring game for him. Had hoped he'd make the weekly world-class/HOW THE feck DID HE DO THAT? save in preparation for Madrid.

Might as well have rested him and given the grass a bit of rest, feck all to do today.

Stats said 1 shot, 0 on target.

Someone blasted a huge blazer way over I seem to recall. Another clean sheet - well deserved.

The media spin on this, only got a clean sheet because he had nothing to do

Nah. Not true in the slightest.

League's elite? He isn't even top 5 in the league.

He reminded me of a young van der sar wearing that purple goalkeeper kit today - really like that kit.

He has weathered the storm and is now deserving of these clean sheets. He must be looking back a few months ago thinking what the hell was going on?.

It was blue?! Agree with you though, love all the keeper kits this year actually.
