Maybe the best shot stopper in world football at the moment. Outstanding tonight.

Thought until he can deal with crosses, there will always be doubters.

That was his kind of game tonight, he saw loads of action. The best keepers are the ones who have nothing to do all game, and make the one save at the end that really matters.

This kid has shown since the first day he joined us that he has the potential to be the best in the business. Theres been a few feck ups on the way and no doubt we'll see a few more but tonight will finally have shown all the doubters what most have us have seen in the young man from the start. He makes saves other top keepers wouldn't dream of making.
He will continue to improve and we need to make sure he's kept happy playing at Old Trafford because the big two of Spanish football will soon come calling.
Get him on a 10 year contract tomorrow and stop all the fecking nonsense linking the likes of Begovic.

His save from the first Coentrao shot was fantastic, superb reactions. The diving kick on the goal-line was both brilliant and hilarious, but fair play to him for having the quickness of mind to dive at it like that.

His reflexes are extraordinary, I was very impressed by some of his saves today. Loved how he held the ball in a strong shot at around the 60 minutes mark.

That said, if he doesn't improve his aerial game outside of the posts then I doubt he'll ever be considered the best in the business. That's one of the most important assets for a goalkeeper at a big club, that concedes few chances and where most problems against smaller teams often come from set pieces.

He may make up for it with impossible saves, but in terms of image he'll always project some insecurity if he doesn't improve the aerial thing. Thing is, impossible saves aren't negatively noticed when they aren't made ("he couldn't do anything about it") but every mistake in an aerial ball will be hounded by the press, unattentive fans, etc.

So how many MoM performances has he had now this season. I'm glad I don't have your media. In our set they were talking about how ludicrous the talk about DDG is in the English press. Like one mentioned, a very wise man and a football manager, he's already won United 3 or 4 games this season. You can't ask for much more than that from a goalkeeper.

Just brilliant.

As for the aerial side of things. In time it will improve. He has shown in some games recently that he can catch the ball and do a decent job but usually it is offset by one or two incidents like the punches.

So in the space of twenty days he's gone from this:

Same newspaper.

Well fecking done Dave.

De Gea in mixed zone: "Every day I'm feeling more happy in Manchester. I'm improving, and very happy

Just to warm the cockles of the heart.

The important thing is Fergie never listens to the press. After the cock-ups with Bosnich coming after Schmeichel they weren't gonna feck this up. They watched De Gea for a long time. What worries me is that he'll soon be Real's next goalkeeper.

His best quality is that he isn't affected by pressure. He is completely unflappable and still wants to pass the ball out, even at the Bernabeu!

Hopefully this is the end to the criticism. He was a class act tonight and I hope that we can keep him away from Real and Barca's grasp. If they do come in for him, he'll command a ridiculous fee anyway.

Not that hes Bosnich's level but I remember Bosnich getting stick through-out 99/00 and then played a great game in the first leg away to Madrid, being MOM there and getting lots of praise. A little coincidence.

He had a great game.

I reckon this is it, this is the moment the media decide to massively shift the narrative on De Gea, this was the night he came of age and blah blah blah.

He did nothing tonight he hasn't done dozens of times before, it's just those spastics don't notice that he's already one of the best keepers around.

He was magnificent. I've always had faith in him.
If he is to improve coming for crosses, he should watch some Ray Clemence videos, to see how to use his legs, to "protect himself."

Agree with this. Nothing wrong with him kneeing a few strikers in the back as he comes to claim the ball, all keepers do it. I'd like to see him be more aggressive and clatter into a few people now and again.

Definitely the most ungrateful position in football. Any player of his age, with equivalent performances in the first team of a club like United would be a muppet's dream everywhere.

Having come from the other side of Madrid, playing for Real isn't particularly likely is it?

It feels like he earned his stripes today, he was fantastic.

Tonight was exactly the type of game he needed to shut the retards up. The world was watching and he put in a top class performance against the champions of Spain. Wonderful stuff, as far as he and the people that have always backed him are concerned.

Made some world class saves today, that one at the start was unbelievable.

However imo still flaps at aerial balls and looks dodgy as feck on corners.

He is improving aerially. I don't think he is significantly worse in that regard to his peers though.

He was great tonight, but I don't think he has answered his critics.

There was never any doubt about him being a fantastic shot stopper capable of making outstanding saves.

Until he can deal comfortably with crosses, he is going to have his critics.

The save he made with his feet was unbelievable, it seems he was about to slide low expecting the shot to go low but it was hit into the ground and the way he reacted to adjust and save high with his feel was world class. The kid is special

Complete bollocks and it pisses me off when this is vomited out by commentators who can't give him real praise. There was supposedly legitimate newspaper columnists and TV pundits writing him off weeks into his United career.

There were people in the pub I was watching it at, saying that he 'should have saved it with his hands'.

What does it matter? he kept it out!

He still has some improvements to make, agreed. But he's fecking 22 and for someone that age in a league he's not been bred in, he's done amazingly well. The prospect of which is outstanding. Point is that despite the chinks in his armor, the media in England regularly fail to give him credit when he deserves it. He'll still make the odd mistakes now and then, as do most GK's, but at his age and the level of his inexperience, people and the media ought to recognize that he does a good job.

people forget just how young he is, Christ if we signed VDS or Schmeichel at the same age people would have wanted rid of them because De Gea is well ahead of where them 2 all time greats was at the same age.

There've been false dawns with the media treatment of him before, the Chelsea game with the Mata freekick save springs to mind. Sometimes you have to just accept that they aren't very intelligent and talk a lot of shite. As long as the club carries on giving him support as they are, he'll carry on getting better. Immense today.

The point is, he shouldn't have as many so called 'top pundits ect. on his case in the first place. The lad has just recently turned 22 and may have just played a big part in winning United this tie.

The criticism he has gotten has been out of order, no matter how much he needs to improve on crosses. He's not even that weak in that departement.

It's amazing how much Spanish keepers seem to struggle with crosses - (I'm guessing the Madrid keeper tonight is one of the better keepers in the league?) he was quite dodgy himself!

True, people were (wrongly) writing him off, but only because of his areal ability.

He was fantastic tonight and he will get the praise, but until he sorts out that side of his game, there will be doubters.

I'm not sure what's better - having a reliable keeper like Edwin who was solid, yet unspectacular but would make very few mistakes. Or DDG who can keep us in a game like he did tonight, but could also cost us next week.

Hopefully, DDG can be both in time, he has the ability. Thought if he is still flapping at crosses this time next year, then I would be very worried.
