Rare, yes, because he costs us points every single week. It's no wonder people get annoyed when you have to see shit like that spouted every day.

Fair enough. I don't agree, but that's cool. We live to debate the issues of the day and it would be no fun if everyone agreed on all issues.

Still, I haven't seen anything at all in Hart's game over the last 12 months that makes me wish we had him and not De Gea.

And that is the point. There are a couple exceptional keepers. Then we get the top tier and no matter how you want to rank the individuals (Hart above or below Cech... whatever), the bottom line is De Gea is on that list and well up there.

Factor in how young he is and what an amazing shot blocker he is (as the GIF above shows) and it just does my head in all the stick he gets. Can he improve, yes he can. Do I want him improving here and helping us... well yes I do !!

Wouldn't surprise me if Begovic happened. De Gea is clearly a top class keeper but the press won't get off his back. If he's spoken privately to Fergie about feeling home sick and feeling his game doesn't suit England, and Barcelona have expressed an interest in taking him then it may be best for all parties.

I'd be delighted to see him stay but I can't help but think he'll be tempted back to spain. Then each year we'll have to hear about how we should regret letting him go, just like we do every time we see Pique play.

I would be surprised if we went in for Begovic, unless there is truth to the claim that De Gea just wants to get the fukk out of England and an opportunity awaits him at Barcelona. I cannot imagine any truth to the claim that Fergie would buy Begovic, keep De Gea and dump Lindegaard. But I do like Begovic, who's looked better to me this season than Hart.

Barcelona would be a perfect destination for De Gea in every way imaginable, despite his Atletico Madrid pedigree. Likely or not I have no idea, but this can't be ruled out at all. We've fed outstanding players to the two Spanish giants before.

Which outstanding player have we "fed" to Barcelona before? Sparky?

And we only sold one outstanding player to Real Madrid that we didn't want to, and that cost them a fair chunk of cash.

Exactly.

Beckham and RVN were pretty much nearing the end of their careers when we sold them to Madrid. Ronaldo was young and in his prime. We obviously did everything in our power to keep him here.

Wasn't Becks 28 when he moved to Madrid? Hardly at the end of his career.

Well no, but he left Madrid for L.A Galaxy only around four years after. Ronaldo left at 24 and was the best player in the world at the time.

The name Gerard Pique comes to mind. Yes, I realize Pique has his detractors here on the caf, but he is widely regarded as one of the top CBs on the planet.

Ruud, Beckham and Ronaldo to Real -- when ALL THREE still had plenty of game left in their boots.

Given the particular situation with each player, selling each player was necessary, although in every case (perhaps with the exception of Pique) very regrettable. It may, unfortunately, be necessary to sell De Gea. I'd hate to see it happen, but if it happens we'll all just have to accept it and move on.

Really great save that. Watching live I thought we got lucky with the strike beating him and hitting the post. It was only after watching the replay a couple of times that I picked up he got a hand to it and pushed it onto the post.

I'd like to point out I thought DDG got a touch on it on first viewing,

But anyways, he had a really good game and wasn't put into silly situations thanks to random backpasses. But that Telegraph bloke calling it a "rare positive game" needs a good slap.

Wow there is a full time witch hunt going on in the media.

David De Gea could make a return to Atletico Madrid

Monday February 4,2013

By Charles Perrin

MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David de Gea has been sounded for a potential return to his old club Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has grown tired of de Gea, who has been at fault for some of the soft goals conceded this season by United and question marks are still raised over his ability to collect crosses.

De Gea has been the subject of mounting transfer speculation, with Barcelona reportedly putting him on a shortlist of goalkeepers to replace Victor Valdes.

But a move to his old club Atletico Madrid could be on the cards, as he is poised for the Old Trafford exit in the summer.

Spanish football site fichajes.net claims Atletico are weighing up their options and they are trying to convince current keeper Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan from Chelsea, to sign a permanent deal.

But they also suggest if that fails, that they will make a move for De Gea.

The Spaniard joined United in June 2011 from the La Liga outfit for a fee of £18.9m.

Yeah I'm sure that Atletico that is broke is going after a goalie that would cost them a fortune:lol::wenger:

Not to mention the fact they have Sergio Asenjo and Thibaut Courtois, two of the best young keepers around, albeit Courtois is on loan from Chelsea.

Asenjo has had a lot of injuries so there's always a doubt he will fulfil his potential. Courtois is on loan. Atletico may well need another keeper next season.

But if De Gea moves back to Spain, I reckon it'll be for Barca. He'd suit them down to a T.

I love how they say Fergie has grown tired of De Gea. He was publicly defending him the other day! Do they do absolutely no research?

"...as he is poised for the Old Trafford exit in the summer."

This shit is written as though it were stone cold fact. Who the fukk knows what will happen "in the summer"?

Journalistic standards in the British sporting press are ridiculous. Or better put, nonexistent. It's one thing for a reporter to criticize a keeper for what he thinks was a "mistake", but it's quite another to write as fact an assertion which is not supported by any verifiable facts whatsoever.

All we know is what we know right now, which is that Fergie has eagerly defended De Gea and ridiculed De Gea's critics. Unless the British sporting press employs a stable of mind-readers there is no basis whatsoever right now to conclude that Fergie has had enough of De Gea and has him "poised" for an "exit this summer."

This is a witch hunt by the British media, nothing less.

I really don't understand the media in this country, what is their problem with him? This witch hunt is absolutely ridiculous; he's criticised on a daily basis, the vast majority of the time for things where he isn't actually at fault, and yet other high profile keepers make blunder after blunder and are referred to as world class etc.

The difference in the way he is treated really does irk me.

It's the simple fact that you guys are first in the league with a significant margin. If you were second or third at the moment I doubt they'd be on his back like this, because quite franlkly, it's getting ridiculous right now. I can't imagine the shitstorm he'll be in once he'll drop a real clanger.

I expected the media to attack whomever we brought in after VDS - but feck me this has been something else.

Well done to the away fans for making a big display of our support for him.

It's just a vicious cycle. What will happen later in the year when come September 1st he'll still be wearing a United shirt and firmly be our No. 1? He'll be off in January then.

The "SAF is losing patience with DDG" stories are getting ridiculous aren't they, it would be comical if it wasn't so potentially damaging to a really important player for us. I usually don't give these things much thought but in this instance its really getting on my tits.

Just imagine what they'd say about our next new manager after few loses and draw.

Fukk, I hadn't even thought about that! :nervous:

It's one thing to replace the great Edwin van Der Sar, but quite another to replace the immortal Sir Alex Ferguson.

I love how they say Fergie has grown tired of De Gea. He was publicly defending him the other day! Do they do absolutely no research?
You'd think that if SAF really had grown tired of him, he wouldn't be starting the majority of games and we would still be rotating keepers.

The media are a joke. They just keep rehashing old stories each week without looking at everything. Glad I don't have to put up with it like all you guys in the UK

 knobbers such as Kietotheworld and the like all trying to deny a CLEAR AS DAY media bias toward DdG....

The funniest part in all this.

Was watching this show called "The Verdict" that airs in India on ESPN. The host mentioned about Reina having made quite a lot of blunders (8 or so in the last season and a half) that have cost liverpool points. Steve mcmahon responded on the lines of how its unfair to say somethin like that because we never blame a striker for having missed to score a goal when through 1 on 1. The other 'expert' (who is a former United player) said that considering all the stuff that Reina has done in the past, you need to ignore these mistakes.
Made me wonder if De Gea would get even half the leeway that Reina is gettin here.
