Anyone besides me remember the fake translation of the Kagawa interview that had everyone all in a tizzy over the summer. Some guy made up a legit looking twitter account, making it look like he was some Japanese journo, translated the interview and even some of the big sports news agencies fell for it.

Always pays to remain calm about these things.

Can't Barca just go get pepe reina or something. I hate how these spanish teams always seem to come after our players, madrid especially.

It's just Ronaldo really? van Nistelrooy and Heinze don't really count, we wanted to sell 'em.

And if it makes you feel any better Valencia turned Madrid down.

There's a press conference today. I'm sure Fergie will address some of the ridiculous criticism DDG is getting.

I can't see him being happy about Alan Hansen telling him that he has to drop DDG if he makes another 'mistake'.

Seeing as de Gea has a deal until 2016 (I think), they might go for an older experienced goalkeeper while trying to poach de Gea in a year or two for a lower price.

Who's he calling a Idiot there ?

Not fully clued up to this but Wasn't keys defending De Gea ?

Neville is a fecking idiot for that. To not criticize Hart or any other English player this season, yet lambast a 22 year old keeper who has already been crucified by the press for mistakes shows his weakness. He can't seperate his job and his opinions. In fact, hillariously, Hart was in his top 4 keepers for this season.

Top 4 for what? Howlers? If the England role is clouding his judgement of certain players then maybe he should take a step back from his position at sky if he can't give fair analysis. He's not the only one though, and there are plenty worse than him.

Neville talks like he knows everything, has been annoyed with him a lot this season. Sort it out Fergie.

Harts mistake record this season is quite incredible for some regarded so highly.

Ferguson's target was Neville....

Sir Alex Ferguson has also spoken out about criticisms of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea at his media conference today.

Former United captain Gary Neville was heavily critical of the Spaniard in his role as a Sky Sports pundit this week following De Gea's poor punch which led to Tottenham's equaliser on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

"I am not getting into that at all," said Ferguson. "You have to listen to some idiots in the game."

I like most people was praising him last season. He was a refreshing change from most pundits, but this season, the bias towards his FA pals seems to have creeped in. "De Gea cost them the game on Sunday". Did he say "Rooney cost United the game against Swansea" or "Hart cost City the game", if so, why not? Putting Hart in his top 4 keepers of the season just cements it.

De Gea has been a better keeper than Hart this season, and the fact that that's even a controversial statement tells you all you need to know about the British sporting press.

Also, I love how the British Press spin it, "Well his shot stopping has never been in doubt." Bullshit. As if that's the only good trait he has, I've said it since 2010, he is the best distributor of the ball in the world. And he's been the vastly superior keeper to "Honest" Joe Hart this season.

HE does know quite a lot to be fair though as is evident in his analysis of the game and is obviously helped by the fact he has coaching badges and played his whole career at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I think a few people are getting caught up a bit to much about it, he did overreact to de Gea and he probably is overly complimentary on English players but so is everyone in the English media. If you listen to Spanish commentary I'd imagine people such as Mascherano might come in for more criticism than the likes of Xavi if they both made the same mistake, it's just the way things tend to work.

I don't think it's anything to do with just Neville and his England role I've seen him be critical of English players but what does he get out of it? People are making out he turned around and said de Gea is shit, he just said he can improve on certain areas which he can. I agree it was slightly OTT in the aftermath of the game but on the Monday I thought he was alright about it.

I've never understood all the comparisons to Hart either like they're the only 2 keepers in the league either, Hart does make mistakes but in fairness he was very very good last year.

Fergie on @tSKeysandGray's comments re Neville/De Gea: "I am not getting into that at all. You have to listen to some idiots in the game."

Neville?

It's so true and all. He's roped everyone in with his pretentious analysis but the truth is he's just an upgrade on Paul Merson. I've being saying it for ages.

I would imagine that that was aimed at Alan Hanson who wrote an article saying that SAF will 'have to drop DDG if he makes another mistake'.

As if Sir Alex would read it. The only chance he even knows about that is if someone specifically mentioned it in an interview. He's probably talking about Neville's comments reading into Vidic's stare.

Yeah I agree, I don't think because he got it wrong in this instance should overshadow his excellent work other the last months, he's been very good (I'm talking about Neville here). But I've said it in this thread, I think he gets it wrong quite a bit with goalkeepers, I think that's his weakness.

Neville gets it wrong with multiple aspects. He just explains his point better than the rest. He never said he was perfect though, he's just giving his opinion

Great keeper, should find tooth and nail to keep him happy and at the club for the next 10-15 years.

The reason he is no good on crosses is because like ever other Spanish keeper they are not raised on lots of crosses coming into the box.
De Gea probably has more crosses to deal with in a week in England than he would in a seaon in Spain.

Yeah, it's all opinion after all. I personally think he needs to be able to say "He played badly" about English players but he seems afraid it will be interpreted as "He's a bad player".

Again not fully clued in but Don't think Neville was that harsh on him tbh. Others have piggy banked on him conveniently because he is a ex recent United player.

I personally think he needs to stop playing to the cameras. His exchange with Redknapp was cringeworthy, and completely his fault. Brophs, you made him believe the hype. It's your fault.

What I mean is that with most of his analysis, it's an opinion, you may or may not agree, but he explains it pretty well, backs it up with hard facts, and isn't usually afraid to go against the flow, like his analysis on diving recently. It's been refreshing.

With goalkeepers, he himself has admitted he's harsh with them, and feels like any goal that goes in should be attributed to a goalkeeping mistake. It's of course not that simple, but I think he lacks true understanding of the position to give better analysis.

However I agree in this instance what he said (which was, according to me, completely wrong, it wasn't even an opinion, it was just pure speculation based on little evidence) has been piggy backed and the rest of the media has made a meal out of not much.

RedNews suggest the "Idiot" comment was aimed at Richard Keys, who apparently suggested Fergie had told G Nev to criticize DDG (presumably as part of some managerial strategy)

Then the comment was well-aimed. Keys can be a really stupid twat when he wants to be.

Fergie on De Gea - "criticism is over the top and unfounded. The boy has to brush it aside. Was fantastic at the weekend."

On MUTV. There'll be more quotes from 10:30 pm.
