Did very well today. Can't fault him for either goal. Did very well to save the first two shots for the first goal and made a couple of other nice saves.

Looks fairly good coming for corners/crosses as well. Got a couple of nice punches and took the ball out of the air well a few times. Its definitely an improvement and I think he is trusting his judgment more on when to come out now

Dave did well. First performance where he seemed comfortable going for balls throughout the whole match. Deserves a run in the side.

His last two performances (against Villa(?) and the one last night) should settle it now. He has improved and commanded the box so much better than he had done previously. Has also looked good dealing with set-pieces and is more than a "goal line" keeper. It's obvious they have worked on this area in the training sessions and the results are evident.

He is only 22 years old and will inevitably make a few mistakes going forward but that should not restart the goal-keepers musical chair.

Apparently won Man Of The Match over Rooney and RVP.

I wish we just just fecking play this guy every week. He's improved leaps and bounds in the last year or so when he cemented his spot in the team after Lindegaard's injury. He's going to make the odd mistake here and there, but he's supremely talented and is only going to get better.

I think it's obvious that this squad game we're playing with the keepers isn't simply down to which one who performs the best at any given time, but to protect DDG a little bit. Which is sensible, of course, but he's looking stronger and stronger every time he plays this season IMO.

De Gea did more than play very well. He was simply sensational. Young keepers around the world should watch him carefully and take copious notes.

To those here who've flogged De Gea mercilessly over the last 18 months I hope now we can put that crap in the past. We're witnessing a young keeper who someday can be even better than Schmeichel, if not as good as Yashin.

So its working then?

I still cant fathom why he found himself out of the side in the first place.... BOTH TIMES this season

The second save before Toure scored was simply amazing.

I'm almost certain De Gea could play as a goalkeeper in any sport that has them and do just as well.

Fantastic keeper. Done well with the pressure put on him by the media on top of what must already be immense pressure just from being a keeper at United. And I think Fergie has played a blinder by rotating and taking some of the strain off him. He knows he'll be awesome in a few years and hasn't wanted to overdo it and blow everyone's confidence in him (including his own) if a couple of mistakes start building up.
We've got a keeper here boys ;)

 Exactly, the boy is a natural with the kick-save. He'd learn the butterfly technique in no time.

He could be awesome. It wonderful the way he maneuvers his body for certain saves. Almost looks awkward doing it but (touch on wood) haven't seen him fail yet.

He's definitely our best keeper right now. I hope Fergie stops messing around and puts him in goal permanently instead of playing him when he feels like it. I like Lindegaard but the gap in potential between them is huge, they're a class apart in terms of what they can achieve even if De Gea has his off moments once in a while (which goalkeeper doesn't, at the age of 20? Even Casillas and Buffon struggled at times).

He's a natural. It doesn't matter what part of your body makes the save and he makes it look instinctual at times.

Spot on! De Gea is our real #1, no question. Only matches Lindegaard should play in is the FA Cup games.

A pure stroke of genius by Fergie to institute the so-called "rotation policy" among his keepers. In truth, and it should have been obvious to everyone, that all Fergie was trying to do was to take some of the pressure off De Gea. Let Anders get in his run of games, which in itself was a good thing, while letting De Gea do his own thing from a distance.

Even now, I wouldn't mind seeing Anders get in another mini-run of quality matches. He's not a shabby keeper at all and De Gea can still learn a few things, actually, by watching Anders. But if Fergie went all in with De Gea from here on out I wouldn't object in the least. It's just that we have two very good keepers -- one who's clearly now "world class" and the other who's an above average keeper in the English prem.

I trust De Gea now has put all these ridiculous rumors over the last few days about Begovic to six feet under.

22 years old and already this good. A solid 10 years off his prime LOL. Genuinely feel sorry for the rest of the prem.

The one off his shoulder probably ends up going in off his shoulder if he doesn't move his shoulder towards it. Hopefully he'll get a lot of confidence from that game.

He shouldered the responsibility well with that save.

Good point Brophs. Also he made himself big while still anticipating the possibility of getting nutshotted. Which is very very impressive.

That first save in the Yaya goal was a bit unlucky, he was attempting to palm it more square you could tell. A slight little bit more reaction on it and it would gone away from (Silva?) the player running in who hits the second shot. His stopping is just fantastic.

As much as I like De Gea, he's going to enjoy playing against Silva. Should have done better with both efforts.

Wanna start a breakaway shoulder forum? We could call ourselves the dislocated shoulders. It wouldn't be too fetishy.

It does have a nice ring to it.

Get the feck out KM. Just leave. Go on.

It was Brophs's fault. He should shoulder the blame for this.

I'm sorry, last one.

Yep, fair points. Put another player there and he probably scores one or both. But good saves nonetheless.

Well maybe. Obviously you can only save the shot thats attempted so its also possible that if Silva/Aguero/Whoever finished expertly DDG could still pull off an amazing save. But we'll never know because the shots that actually came in were poor efforts almost right at him

Of course. I just meant that if you give a world class player a free shot in front of goal while the keeper's on his back on the ground and a shot from six yards out on his good foot then as often as not you'll end up conceding.

That said I think that another keeper might have let in both goals, even though they weren't the best shots.

Quinn I think it was gave him no credit for that saying he was very lucky he shot right at him and it hit him and he didn't know a thing about it.

Bollocks. He stood firm and brave, made himself big, gave very little angle and did very well to reflex his shoulder towards the ball when the shot did to off. It might not have been a stretched out finger tip save but it was excellent keeping all the same. The equivalent of a defender reading the play, picking up w good position and making an essential contact on the ball with his big toe which does enough to stop the striker getting his shot away on target. It might not be a running slide tackle but it is excellent defending all the same with forethought and planning that only a natural instinct combined with experience can perform. To dismiss it as "a stroke of luck" is very unfair.

Good post. Stroke of luck my arse. Why does Quinn think he was standing there, carefully adjusting his position with each move of the ball and covering as much space as possible? For the kicks? I hate it when keepers do that, make the block, and then the commentator comes out with the usual 'I don't think he knew much about that one!' bollocks.

It's because De Gea is giving them nothing to berate him with now, he's a media scapegoat, but he's looking increasingly comfortable with coming for crosses. His shot stoppings as good as anyones (actually, thats harsh on him, his shot stopping is vastly superior to everyones) and he's no longer a easy target for lazy criticism, so commentators are really having to stretch to fill this perception that he's a bad player.

I think he's made one mistake all season, and that was when Vidic rugby tackled him, yet he still is the subject of more criticism and scorn than the likes of Reina and Hart who have made many more.

Yup. For some reason it's still controversial, even here on the 'caf, to say that he's better than Hart (rather than dancing around the topic by talking about how one's underrated and the other overrated). But I don't think there's much doubt, to be honest. Hart has been making big, match-costing errors all season, whereas as you say De Gea's only one has been coming out and colliding with Vidic. His greatest strength - shotstopping - has continued to get better, and the improvement in his weaknesses - notably crosses and corners - has been massive. I actually feel more confident about him when the ball's in the air now than I do about Lindegaard.

He's simply better than Hart. As for Reina...

I thought the save with his shoulder was amazing on Sunday. Agree that it could easily have gone in had he not reacted.
