They're playing Denmark tonight in a very important playoff match.

De Gea will probably be hoping that Simon Makienok doesn't play. He's crap but about 2 meter tall.

Heard he made a few cracking saves.

Why's he crap? Doesn't he make enough out of his chances?

This actually gets on my nerves. There are no signs of him yet that he will be a world class goalkeeper in a few years, a very promising one yes currently. People used to say that about Ben Foster and Tim Howard for instances, it never happened. Whatever he turns out to be is still very far-fetched
You say that like Howard's rubbish. He's just below world class so people weren't too far off.

I take your Foster comparison but Howard has gone on to prove he's a very reliable keeper at Everton. Consistantly one of the best in the league and probably the best in the league so far this season.

He is already leagues above Ben foster.

Jesus the press really get to some people.

De Gea has made some saves that are simply breath taking.

He played really well for Spain's U21s last night. He doesn't normally have a lot of work to do for them, but he did against Denmark.

He needs to be able to trust his own judgement on positioning, when to come out, when to stay back. It was his great strength when he was Atletico, it's his strength now when he plays for Spain - even more than his shot stopping. I still think in our hurry to change his game to an English style, we've ended up making him less sure of himself and more hesitant.

Really? That is interesting. Gives confidence he will get that side of his game sorted though.

It must me true. A paper called something like confidential wouldn't make stuff up. Also, their logic is infallible. He's pissed off at being benched here so he wants to join Real Madrid. Only makes sense.

Pure Bollocks, he'd never go to Real. He'd never get a game there anyhow.

The Real Madrid link is certainly bullshit, but the problem with De Gea is that he'll always want to come back to Spain at some point in the future.

Perhaps. It's not set in stone. Just because you're from a certain country doesn't mean you only want to live there. It's only 10-15 years as well, not indefinitely. Look at Coloccini and Gutierrez. They've been at Newcastle for a long time now. Went down with them and back up. And arguably Manchester, the city, has more to offer than Newcastle. So it varies somewhat.

He sounded homesick in his interview with Sid Lowe. Bring over Munian I say!

However, El Confidencial claim that a full move to Mendes didn't happen, something backed up by Transfermarkt's agent list, and that it's only now the Spanish U21 international is completing that agent transfer.

Well that's me convinced.

As much as I hope he'll stay with us for the majority of his career, I somewhat expect him to go back to Spain and join either Real or Barca.

The longer the rotation policy continues I think the more he might be attracted to returning to Spain, especially since he won't be unfairly criticised there like he is here. I personally think he could replace Valdes right now as Barca's #1.

Mendes was working for both clubs during the De Gea transfer and it's quite possible that he only took Mendes as his agent recently. Certainly the rumour is that he's looking for a move and that United will let him go if they can get their money back. The if in that statement is obviously a big if.

The only Spanish clubs that can afford him at 20m are Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Real Madrid (like Atletico and United) are seen as Mendes clubs. Madrid are looking for a sub keeper and are rich enough to buy Spain's next #1 for storage. Hence the Madrid link. However that only works for De Gea if Casillas is shiftable - which is why this story is probably more a Madrid gossip story than a United one. Certainly the Barca press are the ones shouting it loudest.

I suspect this is just De Gea/Mendes looking for options. I doubt De Gea likes the sensation of shifting between hero (Spain) and zero and they may even be hoping to get a loan back to Spain (easier than a sale) but given Kuszczak comments about our ruthlessness in such matters I'm sure we'd only do that if it suited us.

Incidentally Real Madrid are supposed to be linked with Kasper Schmeichel and Curtois as #2 keeper so expect their names to appear next to everyone over the next few months- With the replacement price tag going up and down with Casillas's credit.

Definately, I'd have him over Valdez any day of the week.

If anything, it should have been dealt with, and it wasn't. By then he had no choice but to stay on his line.

The first goal was symptomatic of the general unease at the back in that area that keepers 'control'. Might have got a stronger hand on the second.

Fortunately he's generally been bailed out by goals in the 'For' column. Three pts is all that really matters for United.

Made a number of brilliant saves but as ever people will continue to blame him for everything.

If he came out for the cross and flapped at the ball he would be criticised. As it was, he stayed on his line and expected the defenders to deal with it. They didn't, it was a good ball, an OG; yet DDG is still the one who gets criticised.

People are just habitually blaming him regardless of his performance.

Made a superb save from Adam. Continue with him in goal for every game.
