Nevermind his ceiling, De Gea has a higher floor. Claiming crosses is just one of many aspects involved in goalkeeping and the only one Lindegaard is better at. But he's still a solid enough keeper.

Ferguson did say that he felt it was too early for Cech, but he also says he was wrong about it. So theres no use reading into a comment that suggests he's learnt from a mistake.

says you!

Ferguson obviously cant decide who is the better one so how can you?

They both have excellent attributes , a combination of which would be tip top class. But I hope he decides soon because I don't think the chopping and changing benefits the team at all.

Lindegaard is an average keeper. He's about the same level as Howard and Kuszczak in the past which isn't good enough for United. De Gea has some bad moments but he's also had some tremendous ones, all he currently lacks is confidence - and he'll have even less of it if he keeps being rotated because of every single mistake he makes. It's a mistake from Ferguson but I hope we won't drop many points because of it.

I'll cry if Lindegaard is made #1, de Gea is the obvious choice! Not that Lindegaard is a poor goalkeeper, he is just not material for a club of United's stature.

Bit harsh on Lindegaard, it's more that de Gea is a match winner of a 'keeper, a very special talent.

Should be #1 without a question, don't know what Fergie sees in rotating him & Lindegaard this often.

He says neither of them have got that "big game experience", well that's pretty much undermining anything De Gea achieved at Atletico Madrid. He played against the 2 best club sides in the world several times including some man of the match performances against Barcelona, played through Atletico's run to the Europa league final including trips to Valencia, Galatasaray and Liverpool. He played in a Spanish cup final. It's quite damning to read that article and see Fergie say these things, because if he really does think rotating keepers is for the best then It's probably going to give us more unnecessary problems. No keeper can gain confidence from being punted from the side every couple of weeks. None

Very good post, I agree with it wholeheartedly. Can't for the life of me understand why he is persisting with this rotation crap. The mind boggles.

TBH, when it comes to goalkeepers, I don't think Ferguson's judgement is all that. I still shudder when I think about the Carroll-Howard fiasco way back. Amazing to think we were offering Carroll a contract, when it seemed clear that he wasn't good enough to even be backup.

I'd rather hear what Steele has to say, and whether he has any input in what Ferguson's decision might be.

For me, DDG all the way. He might make a few mistakes, but in the long run, he will be great for us; he certainly saved us more times than he cost us.

Also, how the hell is he going to 'get experience in the English game' when he hardly starts or plays any league games?

Fergies trying to depress him and Nani, so they put on wight quicker, by eating what rooney and anderson eat, but more due to their depressed states. Not serious

Lindegaard will surely start tomorrow, I've got to say the thought of Ba and Cisse against DDG is scary. It's the only way he will learn though, and when he does he should be a world class goalkeeper.

I don't see why DDG shouldn't start. He performed well midweek and certainly was better than lindegaard against spurs.

If anything we probably need a good shotstopper against cisse/ba.

Fergie needs to stop fecking around with the Keepers and just play DDG as our #1...

How on earth does a keeper get confidence if you keep him on the bench???

De Gea played against Newcastle in the CC, wouldn't make sense benching him for this.

For the record I wanted Lindegaard as no 1 last autumn but these days it's obvious who the better goalie is. And De Gea will get better only by playing.

Problem is we don't actually understand the 'sense' behind the goalkeeping rotation.

In a way we've actually made something sensible in this past month - We've made Lindegaard our number one with De Gea playing in the league cup and the CL group stage, which is not very much different to what we've done with Van der Sar and his backups. But we all know it's probably not systematic and we could easily see De Gea in the league and Lindegaard in the CL before long.

We need to establish a first choice goalkeeper (preferably De Gea) and stick with him, no matter what happens. This rotating goalkeepers is asking for trouble and is doing nothing to lay down any foundation for the future.

It's no secret that De Gea has struggled with crosses, but how is he supposed to get better if he is only playing in the Champions League where most of the teams in that competition don't just whip balls into the box like they do in the Premier League? You can't get better by solely practicing this in training. In a sense we'll have stunted De Gea's progress if this continues. Also, if we're in the knockout stages in the Champions League and Sir Alex decides to play Lindegaard instead, I'd be pretty pissed off I were De Gea.

The other issue is, I don't think we should have our goalkeepers going into matches thinking that any mistake will cost them their starting job. A nervous goalkeeper trying to do too much is what we're creating with this steady rotation.

Exactly. It's a complete opposite of what could happen with players in any other position. Forwards, midfielders or even defenders would work their socks off to prove their value to the team, goalkeepers will just be scared of making any mistakes most of the time.

Still an issue in a crowded box. Im not sure what he should do. Most keepers would come for the balls he does. But he cant get near them.

Probably needs to stay on his line.

He still worries me

Still does get caught flapping a bit. I know its cliche but putting on some weight and with a little more experience under his belt he can easily become alot more confident in dealing with the aerial balls.

That moment summed up DDG: poor in the air but then a wonderful save.

Shaky as feck today but we should back him. To my mind he looked like he was trying way too hard to deal with crosses, I think he knows that's what's stopping him from starting every game and he was just over doing it today.

Neville was correct in saying he should stay on his line and let the defenders deal with the cross.

I thought he was too eager to come for crosses today, as if he was trying to make a point and impress SAF. He's much better when he stays on his line and then comes for the odd cross when he is confident he will not flap.

Great save after a poor mistake. He needs to play every week otherwise he'll never improve. Enough with the rotation bollocks.

Still too nervy on corners and crosses for me.

Fairly obvious he's a great shotstopper. But dealing with crosses is a huge part of the English game.

pretty much all i came to say.

He was coming out for balls he wouldnt normally. seemed like he wanted to prove a point which shows he's feeling the pressure. Stop the mindless rotation, please

Yeah think Neville has the right idea he needs to stay on his line more and let te defenders deal with it. He needs to beef up which is part of the issue but its mainly mentality imo. He doesn't look like he wants to get involved in that way but he's gonna have to improve it.

Neville pissed me off when he said he should've caught the ball towards the end.

Otherwise shakey stuff, he needs a run in the team to gain confidence.

He was improving at dealing with crosses. Didn't really show it today though. He just needs to focus on doing the safe thing. Either let the defence deal with it or go 100% and make sure he get's a strong running jump on it. His hands should beat any attackers head to the ball every time.

Just keep playing him. It'll pay dividends in the end.

We better not drop him.

He did his best, we know he isnt superman in crossing situations, he did what he had to do and that was save shots and stop the ball going in; he did everything he could, and still got battered a few times when trying to catch.

We were solid at the back, why change it?.

After earning his place back, he's got to be frustrated with how he played today. That said. clean sheet.
