Dropping De Gea when he was in fine form shattered his confidence last season, and arguably cost us the title. Good to see Fergie's learnt from that mistake...

feck off. If De Deas not up to competition for his place then he'll never be a top keeper.

Fergie'll never want him to win the golden gloves. When we play relegation fodder, De Gea's rested. Way to boost his confidence; not giving him a chance to keep a clean sheet in what would theoretically be an easy win for us.

This is why I didn't want Lindegaard still in the team; he's too good to be a #2, and he keeps getting Fergie to put him in on his bogus rotation policy. If our second option was Ben Amos, Fergie'd start De Gea rain or shine; and that's how he's going to become the best GK in the world.

Just get a gun and top yourself if you are such a De Gea fanboy that you would want United to risk having a shit 2nd keeper.

Christ, where do these nutters come from.

Hopefully it's an injury knock or something. If not, I think Fergie got it wrong on the keeper tonight.

Lets hope it won't make a big difference.

Competition is fine, but unnecessary rotation did not work last season and it's not likely to work this time. His form this season doesn't warrant rotation or dropping him. Any player who gets benched when he has done nothing wrong is likely to have a negative effect on their confidence. No coincidence that DDG's best form was when he was definitely playing each week.

Also, it doesn't help the understanding between GK and defence if we're making changes each game and not sticking to one keeper.

Bad timing though mate. Sends all the wrong messages to him.
If he reads the papers.. maybe.
Fergie did the same last season before the international break as well.. Maybe Fergie had a word and De Gea knows the reason for it.

He made a mistake last game, he doesnt need to read the papers to feel a bit shit about being dropped/rested right after it.

Ferguson is fueling the fire by saying he was dropped. feck sake.

Fergie saying he made a mistake last week and he'll be back in a couple of weeks.

So he's dropped for this game but will be back the next game? Don't see the logic in that.

For a man known for his Man Management skills, its weird to come out and say that even if thats what actually the case is.

Mistake? he's been our best player so far, won us 3 points against Fulham. Ah well, Fergie knows best i guess. I don't mind Lidegaard, he's a really good keeper, just surprised SAF dropped DDG.

Hmm. One mistake and you're dropped for "a couple of weeks"; what happens if Lindegaard messes up today then?

Every manager makes mistakes. I think this is one tbh.

I'm really surprised at SAF for that. I don't agree with dropping him but putting that to one side, coming out publicly and saying that is just crazy. The press are gonna be all over him.

I'm not even sure this "mistake" he made against Fulham caused the goal. If he doesn't come out for the ball it's still going to hit Vidic's foot and who knows if he would've been able to stop that. Granted, if he's going to go out like he did he should be getting the ball.

Either way, benching him for one mistake that didn't actually cost us any points, after how well he had played up until that point is very stupid.

What happens if Lindegaard makes a mistake today, play Amos then?

What happens if Lindegaard is brilliant today, then what? It's a position that just shouldn't be fecked about with unless there is a very good reason. 1 mistake after him playing really well apart from that is a shitty reason to drop him.

fecking hell Fergie. Keep De Gea in goal. So annoying. It's like he wants to play Lindegaard in all the games where we are not expected to concede many shots on goal. build up a false sense of confidence that will then shatter when he plays a game where he actually has to do something, like City last season.

That's arguable that it was even completely his mistake. If anything vidic deserved just as much blame for it, if not more.

I wish we'd stop messing with our keepers.

Fergie just needs to pick one of them and stick with them for a a long period. Be it Lindegaard or De Gea.

This constant rotating isn't helping.

Then we continue playing him and wait for a mistake to drop him and pick De Gea again. Makes feckall sense. Crazy stuff.. I mean there has to be a fecking reason no club in the world rotates their keeper. Specially when injuries mean we hardly play the same back 2 in games either.

Vidic shouldnt be playing then either. Also, keep in mind that DDG has been one of our better players lately, compared to others who were horrible

It will cost us more than it will gain us anyway that's for sure. No solid back 4 and keeper then we will just be exposed and shat on in Europe yet again.

I suppose he doesn't want De Gea to think he has a nailed on first team spot. It can only motivate him to keep his place in the future but could also crush his confidence.

Having said that, the way he acted after the cock-up last week doesn't suggest he's lacking on confidence anymore. The Cryuff turn in the area as well, I don't think this'll damage De Gea too much.

i actually didn't think it was entirely his fault TBH, a mix-up between him and Vidic, but i didn't think it was entirely his fault.

He isn't playing? Surely there's got to be something extra here, maybe an injury or something? I really can't believe we're just dropping him. It's a bad move from Fergie who's usually a master at handling these sorts of situations. Despite a bad mistake in one game, he was excellent in the first and it's clear that the calendar year of 2012 has improved his confidence as well as his game. This will only set him back on the confidence issue.
