David de Gea | 2011-14 Performances

That is depressing, I would say that De Gea has been the best bought goalkeeper this season unless they have taken a value approach. He still can't shake his "dodgy" tag despite being very good for 90% of the season.

Good to see him getting another clean sheet today, had nothing much to do except some routine saves. Must love having a settled centre back pairing infront of him for the league games.

He looks far more assured now too.

I think this will install confidence in the defence as much as the settled defence will install confidence in him

If you want to pick his performance apart today. He made 2 very poor kicks and his 2nd save he should have held onto.

But I barely notice him anymore and that is a good thing

he acknowledged this and was clearly annoyed. he has a good attitude and will make it. I think at the start it was a case of trying to run before you could walk but since ajax he has been very calm and he has been great.

Absolutely.......we have a gem and he is going to be a great GK in the coming years.

He's looking a really assured and calm presence at the back now and as I said at the start of the season, it was only a matter of time before he settled. He's going to go from strength to strength now and SAF was right to have stood by him when some would have dropped him.

Fergie did drop him. The fortunate thing for De Gea was Lindegaard got injured and that allowed him to have a run of games in the side without the nonsense of rotation. Had Anders not been injured then he'd probably have started all these recent games and DDG would be on the bench.

Credit to DDG who took his chance and has not looked back. As Ballague said earlier this season when everyone was criticising the lad: 'Wait till the end of the season then we’ll talk.' - Dave's proven he is already a very good keeper who is only going to get better.

I disagree, Fergie rotated him and Lindegaard in the winter period where the weather was rather cold and not something DDG was used to playing in, given the winter break in La Liga and the fact he came from Spain.

There was definitely a rotation policy but, IMO, DDG got dropped for the Newcastle game after making the mistake in the Blackburn loss. I'm sure SAF said before the Blackburn game that DDG would start the next 2 games, so for him not to play at Newcastle meant, IMO, Fergie dropped him. Also for him not to play at City or Arsenal suggested he was not #1 at that time.

Even if he wasn't dropped, it's beneficial for DDG to have a run of games in the side without rotation - I always thought the rotation idea was silly and did more harm than good for DDG's progress.

Oh of course, I agree with that assessment, however I think that drop was only temporary. Like the bollock Rafael dropped for Bilbao's second goal at OT, he was dropped in the next league game because of it. Either way, I am glad to see DDG has turned a corner and is proving my Leeds mate's statement that he will lose the league for us wrong.

Balague called it back in October when he said this

“People doubting David De Gea? Seriously? It will be a feast of eaten words at the end of the season. De Gea is not just good. He is extraordinary.”

He had nothing to do today, and suddenly he was called on twice and stepped up. Promising signs.

Good to see him getting another clean sheet. Even if he wasn't called into action all too often, it's still only going to help boost his confidence.

Hadn't heard that quote before.

Don't have much to do, but keep concentration to make a save or two when called upon. That's a big part of being United's keeper. For me, a match like that is actually bigger than a game in which he has to make a string of saves.

Very good point. The sort of stuff you just mentioned is what separates the good keepers from the batch of world class ones at the top. Keepers who can stand there doing nothing for 70 minutes, but can suddenly pull off a world class save out of nowhere, are often top keepers.

Same thing applies for goalscorers. Do nothing so much that defenders forget to mark them properly and there you go, a goal. Saw that a lot with Shevchenko before his Chelsea days. Didn't matter if he was heavily involved or invisible. He'd always show up in the end.

Hope to feck he isn't injured.

Hopefully it's not an injury. Terrific performance again and he looks more assured with crosses.

Wasn't the best of landings, hopefully it won't be as bad as it looked. He played really well tonight.

Also isn't Lindegaard still injured?

I'm sure his wrist will be fine, just a bit of sudden pain he felt, and he has a whole week till the next game so i doubt it'll cause much concern.

Again, he looked solid tonight. Was good to have him there as a reassuring presence when several of the other players looked quite shaky and nervous.
