Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

Really?! Listen he was very very good, no doubt about that, but they had players playing for them back in the 80s when they were winning leagues and European cups that are way greater than Saurez.
They had a great team which was the best around but not necessarily the best players .

Suarez their greatest ever player?! Ok
He almost took them to a PL title in a bang average Liverpool side with Mignolet in goal, Skrtel, Sakho, Johnson and Flanagan in defense, with an ageing Gerrard, Joe Allan and Henderson in midfield, yeah Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge did their part but without Suarez that’s a top six side at best, which is where they finished the following season when he left.

Suarez in 2013-2014 was absolutely unplayable, up there with Cristiano in 2007-2008 and peak Thiery Henry, and they played with far superior players.

Comfortably in the top 3 individual seasons I’ve seen in the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard said many times Suarez was easily the best player he’s ever played with, and he’s played with some great players. (Alonso, Shearer, Rooney, Lampard, Scholes, Torres, Beckham Owen off the top of my head).

Kante, Mahrez and Vardy all took Leicester to a PL title in an even worse Leicester team. Does that mean they are all better than Gerrard and Suarez then?

The part in bold though, the amount of goals he scored looks better on paper than it actually was. First of all Liverpool had no European football so he could rest all week, whereas Henry and Ronaldo did it while playing twice a week.

Suarez scored 31 league goals but he scored 15 of them goals against the 4 teams that finished 17th - 20th.12 of the goals being against relegated teams.

18 of his 31 goals came against the teams that finished 14th - 20th. He was the definition of a flat track bully that scored 48% of his goals against the bottom 4 teams.

Not to mention the following are all greater Liverpool players Dalglish, Gerrard, Salah, Rush, Barnes, Hansen, Keegan and Mane.

I don't know for sure but there are plenty of Liverpool fans here who could clarify.

The season before he moved to Barcelona he probably had the most impressive individual season in premier league history (IMO).

And with brendan feckingbrodgers. Couldn't believe he almost single handedly dragged then to the title.

Absolute nonsense, I don't think you have even looked into it that much, and are remembering differently.

Yep, I completely agree with all of this, especially the last paragraph. As I said, very very good player, but not their greatest ever.

Whether or not others were “greater” Liverpool players aside, Suarez is definitely the best Liverpool player I’ve seen at playing football

Sorry but what did he do for Liverpool that the players you mentioned didn't, that makes you rate him higher?

I wouldn't/didnt say he's their greatest player but he's definitely a better all around footballer than the others.

Had the best individual season (IMO) in premier league history for example

Absolute nonsense, I don't think you have even looked into it that much, and are remembering differently.

Nah mate I remembered it just fine thanks , I watched most/all of it live.

First of all Liverpool had no European football so he could rest all week, whereas Henry and Ronaldo did it while playing twice a week.

I didnt say he did it in Europe too. (He did later with Barcelona)

Couldn't you do that with most of the other top goal scorers too?

"As well as 31 goals, Suarez also provided an additional 17 assists in the Premier League that season. This means he was directly involved in 48 goals (just under half of the Reds' 101 league goals) in just 33 games. "

So his all round game was stellar too.

I don't understand why it's so controversial.

33 Games, 31 Goals (No Pens) and 17 assists.

He was ridiculously good that season.

It's widely regarded as one of the most impressive premier league seasons of all time (along with Ronaldo, Henry and Bale's).

In bold you misinterpreted what I meant. He had the time to rest and perform to his best every week in the league. Ronaldo and Henry didn't have the time off to rest like Suarez did yet they still turned up and were exceptional in the league. Suarez benefitted from not playing twice a week like the others.

The seasons where individuals were better than him, in my opinion are;

Shearer 94/95 - 34 goals and 14 assists in 42 league games, 11 more games than Suarez but did so for Blackburn Rovers and was the main reason they actually DID win the PL title. Shearer also went on to score 31, 34 and 31 league goals 3 seasons in a row.

Salah 17/18 -32 goals and 11 assists in 36 league games, doing so while having to play twice a week unlike Suarez and didn't have to score 10 of his goals in only 4 games against Cardiff and Norwich like Suarez did.

Henry 2002/03 - 24 goals and 25 assists in 37 league games. He was a more all round complete player hence the less goals but crazy level of assists. Again doing so while playing twice a week and not once. He went on to get 30 goals and 9 assists in the league the next season, proving it wasn't just a fluke crazy season stats wise.

Ronaldo 2007/08 - 31 goals and 7 assists in 34 games. Stat wise less than Suarez but he was a better player that season and did stuff that is hard to quantify by using stats, he was just more electric than Suarez. Also had to play twice a week all the way until the CL final in May. So got much less rest than Suarez.

Suarez scoring 10 of his 31 league goals against the teams that finished 19th and 20th massively inflates his stats compared to the others mentioned above.

English people are obsessed with titles and having something to show. Suarez 13/14 was way better than Gerrard ever was and sorry, but you're fecking delusional if you think otherwise. And to mention Kante in the same sentence. Well, I'm out.

Rivalry aside, would you take those over prime Suarez?

Yes of course. Gerrard was world class for years as much as I hate him. Salah has been putting up ridiculous stats in the PL for years. Dalglish is Liverpool's best ever player so that's a no brainer.

Mane probably not. But he is perfect for the style and tactics of Klopp.

Gerrard finished 3rd in the Ballon D'or in his best season. Suarez never finished in the top 3 even at Barcelona. And in 2013/14 Suarez finished 19th. So clearly actual football people, unlike you, clearly have Gerrard at his best as better than 2013/14 Suarez.

Now if you want to talk about Suarez at Barcelona then fair enough because he was different gravy.

His movement and runs seem excellent to be honest. He’s also big and fast, his technique might not be the best, but if he gets to a good start I’m sure he’ll score plenty. On the other hand if he continues to struggle once the real games start it could be a long season for him.

Big and fast, yet gets shrugged off the ball easily by that Crystal Palace defender. Remind you of anyone?

Not getting involved in the argument itself but that's a pretty shit measurement to compare players on.

Completely off topic but Suarez is the most naturally gifted player I've seen play for Liverpool. His 13/14 season was incredible.

That being said, Salah's 17/18 season was better and Suarez used to score at least four per season against Norwich. He scored five against relegated Cardiff over two games.

This. He single-handedly carried a very poor Liverpool team.

He's already 23. How much more refined can his technique even get? He's not got that natural instinct like Mason Greenwood had. He looks physical, he's rapid, and I'm sure he'll run all day. For those reasons I'm sure he'll be a bit of a pest. Still, for $100m you want more. Massive downgrade on Mane.

The player have all the attributes to become world class like pace, power, height but also have shown all the attributes to become best meme player as well.

Honestly after I saw his YouTube video that was a collection of all of this shit touches, I was put off by him. Most of the responses were "you could make a video of any player with all their shit touches" - but feck me, i dont think i've seen the likes of lewa, benzema, salah etc so poor when trying to control a football.

So through that criteria, Lampard is better than Scholes?

He looks absolutely rubbish from what we can see so far ....... :) It's lovely !

Unfortunately the poor lad will probably soon find out he's severely asthmatic which will force him to re-evaluate his training methods and force him to up his game.

Interesting. Thoughts on Scholes never achieving a single Balon D’Or vote in his entire career?
