Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

Early days to judge him yet, if he ends up suffering badly with asthma he could end up a real top player though. Doesn`t seem to have the same intensity and bite to play at the level of Suarez though.

All the more bizarre that a Liverpool fan would crop that one miss and use it to deflect away from Nunez. They're genuinely rattled about this
It’s like a seriously desperate attempt to dampen the flames in the hope opposition fans back off.

The truth is, until he hits the ground running the pressure is only going to grow. Liverpool really need to find a way to avoid exposing his limitations which is basically his poor touch and limited technique.

It's obviously too early to judge but you can see already that he's absolute shite technically and needs to improve quickly. This was my big concern when we were linked with him. Lets see if he can at least be a lethal goalscorer but even then I'm not convinced he can come close to his output at Benfica.

They're all at it. He's posting weird things about having resilience after 1 preseason game, Klopp is telling everyone to forget his price tag and Liverpool fans are running full on, all hands on deck, propaganda on his behalf day and night.

Ballon D'or is a load of BS based on who won the CL and World Cup. Liverpool fluked the CL and Gerrard was their best player so he finished third. He was never 3rd best player in the world. Note that SAF rated Gerrard below the other top midfielders in the PL in his book. I take it you rate SAF's opinion?

'Ballon D'or clearly doesn't mean anything because Michael Laudrup has never won it' - Pep Guardiola

Michael Owen has won the Ballon D'or but Thierry Henry never did. It's clearly a BS award.

What year should Laudrup have won the Ballon D’or?

Considering Liverpool's recent track record with signings, I'm not laughing at him just yet. I fully expect him to morph into prime Zlatan when the season gets going.
Agreed. All a bit of banter really though. He’s obviously gonna be a top signing for them.

Opposition fans having a go at him after two preseason games are equally as silly as Liverpool fans feeling the need to defend him though.

Even if he has a shocking season, there will always be mugs like Eddie Howe ready to take him off Liverpool’s hands for 150 petrodollars.

If Andy Carroll had pace, athleticism and relentless drive and work rate and wasn't so much injury prone he would have been a top player.

And talent.

Oppo fans, from what I can tell, are mostly just joking though. Don't think anyone is seriously having a go at him or calling him a flop after two preseason games. Clearly Liverpool fans' reaction to all of this is part of what is making this so funny.

The only hope for them is he scores when they put it on a plate for him. His technical ability outside the box is what it is. Doesn’t seem to fit their usual style but they need to start mixing that up.

What year should Laudrup have won the Ballon D’or?

I would take it as 1992 coming from pep, as remember Barca had just won their first CL, a La Liga, UEFA Super Cup, the Spanish FA Cup, but I think he didnt get it that year due to his refusal to play for Denmark after they got into the Euros that year due to the war in the former Yugoslavia that Denmark then went onto win.

@MUFC OK you okay hun? How’s the generational talent that is Darwin Nunez performing?
I love the level of pettiness to @ me in this  I don't recall calling him generational but was probably one of the best strikers on the market this summer.

I'd be happy to see him flop but it's definitely too early to be making calls on that.

Just not rattled enough to boo our own though. Not like what happened in Melbourne today.

I'm loving this thread so far. Wee weepat continues to do his best to 'rattle' a reaction from us but it's just too hot. Anyway, preseason is about to end soon so back to BAU.

City v Chelsea in the Community Shield coming up in two Saturdays time.

You've managed to get 2 of them riled below you without you even really saying anything bad

I don't claim to know. I said it seems. I base it off the eye test of his relentless performance against us and some article from one of the top tier Liverpool journos that it Nunez work-rate and drive to improve was a major factor in his recruitment.

I know Carroll didn't have that based on the 18 months he spent with us. As weird as it was, he'd rather have stayed at Newcastle.
It’s hope, let’s be honest.

Your lot set fire to Gerrard shirts not a million years ago
It was cold.
It’s hope, let’s be honest.
Of course it is. It's like that with any signing a club makes. You don't know that Martinez is going to come in and be a hit but you hope that ETH knows what he's doing. I don't know if Nunez is going to be any good when the season starts but I hope that Klopp continues to show that he can get the best out of his signings (most of the time).

One of the best strikers my arse. I've rarely seen a player look as fecking clumsy in his highlight reel as much as this donkey did.

What year should Laudrup have won the Ballon D’or?

Anywhere from 89-95, with 92 probably being his best bet. Arguments maybe for some of his seasons at Juve. But he was the heartbeat of everything that went through Barce's attack. Stoichkov played alongside him and scored the goals for Barce and was put up for the Ballon D’or. But Laudrup ran that Barce side and was their most important player. Also in Laudrup's last season Barce bossed Real in the Classico. He moved to Real and Real thrashed Barce in the Classico.

Many Spanish footballers of their golden era including Iniesta based their game on Laudrup.

Pep Guardiola
“The best player in the world, I can’t believe he hasn’t won the title as best player.”

Johan Cruyff
“When Michael plays like a dream, a magic illusion, determined to show his new team his extreme abilities, no one in the world comes anywhere near his level.”

Ivan Zamorano
“I always say that Laudrup had three eyes, not two like everyone else. As a forward, I had to be aware all the time, because he could make you a chance out of nothing and you had to be prepared for that moment. Michael was a magician and one of the greatest players ever.”

Andres Iniesta
“Who is the best player in history? Laudrup.”

Roberto Galia
“I have played against Maradona, Platini and Baggio. But the player I saw do the most indescribable things was Michael Laudrup.”

Luis Figo
“I think maybe Laudrup was the best player I ever played against.”

Raul
“The best I have ever played with.”

Jan Molby
“People don’t quite realize how good he was. He was absolutely unbelievable. He was a great dribbler, but he also spotted things. He saw things that nobody else saw.”

Michel Platini
“Michael had everything except for one thing: he wasn’t selfish enough.”

Ronald Koeman
“Michael was possibly the most skillful and elegant player I ever played with. Few could dribble like he could. He could sense when a game was ready to be seized and transformed by a moment of individual brilliance.”

Hristo Stoichkov
“From more than hundred goals that I scored I’m sure that over 50 were assisted by Michael. To play with him was extremely easy. We found each other by intuition on the field and found common football language.”

Brian Laudrup
“My brother started as an attacker but became an elegant attacking midfielder, perhaps the most complete there has ever been. His vision, speed of thought and passing were on a different level; he always knew what was going to happen before anybody else did. If anyone had a ‘football brain’, it was him.”

Mari Bakero
“No one has given the club [Barcelona] as much inspiration as Michael. We all look up to him. It is a privilege to have your day enriched by a genius.”

Franz Beckenbauer
“Pele was the best in the 60s, Cruyff in the 70s, Maradona in the 80s and Laudrup in the 90s.”

Johan Cruyff
“One of the most difficult players I have worked with. When he gives 80–90% he is still by far the best, but I want 100%, and he rarely does that.”

You've managed to get 2 of them riled below you without you even really saying anything bad

I'm not even trying to rile them up. I was just pointing out my observations

Wee weepat did give me a chuckle though @Dumbstar :D

Meanwhile you’ll set your CAPTAINS shirt on fire to make him leave. Any I think we’re all ready for the season, the players maybe not.

I'm with you on ballon d'or being an inadequate measure to rate players on but laudrup despite his sheer brilliance was really really inconsistent, i don't think he necessarily deserved it.
