Darts

Nice to see you guys back Ronnie and Sixpence. Sometimes feel like I am talking to myself in this thread.
Great tournament. Just hope Anderson and Whitlock can take confidence from this and get back to their best consistently.

With Taylor back to his best, Lewis and MvG just dropping off slightly, and returns to form for Whitlock and Anderson (not to mention the re-emergence of Wade) the next few majors could all be classics!

Hope so. Add in a couple of young uns coming thru....Having said that, it is fecking rare someome who isn't Taylor, MVG or even Lewis wins anything.

Yeah it would be nice to have a couple more in the mix, like golf really there's quite a few capable of winning multiple majors, but like you say perhaps not in darts

At last, the darts is back. Just watched RVB v Chizzy. Fecking hell, comeback and a half- great to see the big fella playing at his best...eventually.

Anyone watching this? Amazing game between James Wade and Robert Thornton.
Yeah, feck me. Couldn't believe it. So and so first set then it kicked off. Superb match. The nine darters were obviously immense but those leg savers by Wade of 146 and 156 when Thorn was on a double were amazing too. One of the best matches since Barney-Taylor in the first world final, surely. Sad to hear about Thornton's circumstances and makes his performance all the more remarkable. His doubling in, jesus...I thought the Lewis-Painter game was good...

Feck, MVG is the new Phil Taylor- seven majors now in two years and another nine darter today. Amazing player.

Great match going on at the moment(ITV4) between Barneveld and Gerwen.
So wanted Barney to win that...that last leg was immense tbf...
MvG destroying everyone in his path
Until he met King. Amazing semis, but hell that final. Big fan of Wade but feel a bit sorry for King. Couldn't quite understand why Merv got the hump over Wade's celebration when he won- was clear it meant so much to him and that 135 checkout was as sweet as...Mental, mental match though.

I didn't watch the final, how on earth did King not win after 9-2 ahead?

Wade is one of the best battlers in the game! He has been so determined since he came back, to prove the doubters wrong having been ditched from the Premier League.
I wasn't the biggest fan of his in the past, but I think you have to respect the way he has fought back to the top.

The World Championships this year should be epic, all the top players are hitting form at the right time, though I do appreciate we are still a month or so away.

Whether Wade has the strength to go all the way in it, who knows but we certainly shouldn't laugh off the prospect!

I think MvG could well win it again. Wade should get into the semis at least i think, he's re-discovered his old form and seems to let his darts do the talking rather than antics when he was woefully out of form. Phil Taylor, I can only see him go downhill from here. His wife has divorced him and I think she's been a great pillar of support over the years which has seen him dominate.

Man, my missus is getting pissed- tournament every weekend at the moment. Some good stuff today. Wade solid, Anderson looked good and Michael Smith was on fire. He does look like a young Adrian Lewis- gut and bad tribal tattoos to match as well.

Difficult to call, the rest of the GSOD. Taylor looks to be getting back to his best and there are quite a few candidates still left in the draw.
Bunting vs. Wade looks a cracking 2nd round match, as does Taylor vs. Wright. I think the thing we've learned more than anything is that (even though we knew it before) the chasm between the PDC and the BDO, from player skill level to spectator interest/ ability to fill venues of a decent size, is growing every year. I'm surprised the BDO manages to keep its head above water to be honest, I can't help but feel within the next few years there will be no alternative but to re-unify the sport.

Didn't the PDC offer to do that a while back cos the BDO was broke? They have a couple of players who are OK- Kist on form and Hankey, for example. But, year they are never on TV and built up as stars like they are on Sky...and as you say, they are generally a league below.

Wade v Bunting my pick of the round too. Tough one to call. Taylor is back to averaging c109 and not sure MVG is firing properly. Taylor has to be fave.

It rings a bell about bailing them out, but surely it has to happen sooner or later. What's making the situation worse is what Wayne Mardle and Rod Harrington pointed out last night - the BDO players aren't used to the longer matches and level of exposure.
Week in, week out they are playing in front of around 50-100 people (World Champs @ Lakeside being the exception) and fairly short matches.
On the other hand, the PDC are regularly playing in front of sold out arena style venues with matches that can last 3-4 times longer. So when a tournament like the GSOD comes along and they are thrown together, the BDO players can't cope. Any player coming through the BDO ranks has to make the decision to jump ship early in their career if they want to make any money out of the sport.

Yeah the BDO doesn't seem to have moved forward in years, but from what I gather it runs the grass roots and amateur stuff, so it is very important in bringing players through. Its tournaments are lame though but can see why Bunting stayed there an extra year to win the world title before moving over.
Was disappointed with Norris last night, thought he looked good in one of the group games I saw. Amazing to think it was only five years ago that Anderson and Thornton moved over and Bunting is flying too.

Bit sad to see Wade lose -fecking brilliant 164 after the 170 to hang in there. Shame about Ando too. Lewis obviously out but despite being a bit of a prick, brilliant to watch. Maybe I cheer on Bunting- he is a top player and despite the '96' badge on his collar, you have to admire the guy. World class.

Haven't been keeping up as much recently, watching a bit though, seems like Wright is fading away a bit, what's the deal with Whitlock lately?
No, Wright is still playing well. He just ground down tonight by Taylor averaging 105-111 which he has done all tournament. I think Phil will win it. He did do one awesome treble 19, double double 18 finish which was cool. Whitlock is an odd one- not quite sure how he is still world number 7. Everyone knows he is class on his day but he isn't really getting past QFs.
Bunting is the wild card. Brilliant player- ranked 28 going into this tournament- the likes of Lewis, Taylor etc...will not want to draw him early doors in the worlds cos of the skewed rankings, given its his first year.

Taylor seems really fired up for this, expecting him to win alright.
It's a shame about Whitlock, I really like him.
Bunting seems far to good to be so new, crossover from the BDO?

Yeah Bunting won the BDO world title last year then moved over. Class player, already up to 28 in the rankings. He will be a nasty early draw for someone at the worlds next month.

Really impressed by Bunting, he's probably PDC top 6 on current form. I expect him to be given a place in the Darts Premier League next season.

Am away so missed it but I read Anderson beat Lewis and Taylor on the way to winning the player's championship at the weekend. Would love to see him win the world's.

Yay it's on. First round generally a bit dull, barring the odd shock. Next round should be more interesting.

Anyone watching the darts? Anderson v Klaasen. Holy feck, such a game. Genuinely one of the best i've seen
Had to record it and watch it after the missus had gone to bed. Fecking hell, brilliant match. Big fan of Anderson but thought he was a goner. Best I've seen Klaasen play in years, he was excellent. Hope that kickstarts Gary.

Did you see Lewis v Keegan Brown? Hell of a game. Lewis taking the piss with a treble 18, double top, double top finish to win his third set. That Brown is going to be a hell of a player.

Yep, another cracker. Never seen Brown before i must admit but extremely impressed. Looks cool as a cucumber and has a confidence/arrogance that belies his years. Lewis did very well to get over the line.

Saw him in the grand slam of darts when he beat lewis and barney but yep class from lewis in the end. Looking fwd to wade-bunting next.
Lewis-barney sounds a hell of a potential qf too.
