Saw Van Gerwin live recently, he was taking the piss outta Wright a pile. Didn't seem malicious though, just banter.

That was fantastic. All of the players seemed nervous as hell, but fantastic tense matches and really happy Barney won.

Phil Taylor crushed 10-5 by Peter Wright at the Dubai Master. Could it be that he's really in a decline?
There can be no doubt surely now that is the case. Last 4 of the PL yes, but the way he started he was playing like a pub player.
Although this defeat is hardly the final nail in the coffin, mainly due to Wright's outstanding form over the last 18 months, it's hard to see that he's got another World Championship in him with the emergence of MvG and the potential of Lewis if/ when he gets back to his best, I just don't think The Power can keep up anymore.

Strangest thing is how brittle his confidence has become. He was shaking against Barney in the prem league semi.Always dangerous to write him off though. He is a master at reinventing himself and he did still get to the final in Dubai. World cup must be soon?
Taylor has got his mojo back at the world cup. England v Netherlands is the dream final.

Lewis trying to slow MVG down in desperation too. Odd format obviously. Was disappointed Whitlock lost his form in the semi. He had been immense til then. Actually thought Taylor had a decent tournament overall. Dolan too worthy of a mention with the 136 and the 156 earlier.
Would have loved the Australians to win it. Baffling that at no point could they both be in at least decent form at the same time. If Whitlock could have kept form, and got a leg or two against Taylor, I think they could have beat them.

Yeah Dolan was excellent. A lot teams had different players up and down. MVG losing the two earlier singles games, Lewis so patchy. Good to see those flashes from Whitlock- always been a big fan of his.

I'm sad and happy at the same time! Happy this tournament is back on, but sad because I went last year on the second Friday and I'm not going this year!
My favourite tournament and it always throws up great matches even in the first round because only 32 players qualify.
The first round was great but there are some even more mouth-watering ties in round 2. I'm looking forward to Nicholson vs. Newton as much as any.

Bunting v Anderson and Lewis v King sound really good. Never been to the Matchplay. Cracking venue though.
Great match from Ando. God, Sky are hyping the Taylor-Smith match...I reckon the Lewis match will probably be more entertaining.

Taylor is such a fake personality. Everything he does is for the cameras. Great effort from Anderson though, 11 180's tonight.

Tbf, pulling out that 11 dart leg in to win it was brilliant, much as I wanted Anderson to win. Brilliant match from both.
Yeah, exactly how I feel. Whitlock just seemed to run out of steam at the end but I really thought Anderson would take it to the shoot out then. Brilliant effort though as sixpence said. He looks back to his best and hope he can build on that for a big run at the worlds.
