Darron Gibson to Leave United?

Think the only way he'll go is on a perm deal. Don't see how a loan would benefit us, he's out on contract next summer.

Maybe he could be the face of this lot:

Plus he's turning 24 in October. When was the last time we sent a 24 year old on a freakin loan deal?

My point is that despite being an underdog the gap between him and the first teamers isn't that wide for him to lose heart. Fletcher was in a much worse situation a couple of years ago when Ando, Carrick and Hargreaves was signed (we also had Scholes in his prime back then and Giggs was already showing signs that he can play CM). Things would change if we end up signing a world class midfielder though.

from a cold point of view he is a limited player, he is about 6th choice and will only be used in an injury crisis, he has one year left on his contract and getting 5 or 6 million for him would be good business for the club....

the player himself could improve with regular football - he is a approaching his mid-20s and he is at a Jonathan Greening level - he can develop a good career for himself at a decent mid-table club

he should be sold

But Fletcher was always different from them so there's no direct comparison. The only one you can compare is Hargreaves who would of easily taken the DM job away from Fletch. Otherwise Anderson is attacking, Carrick is a deep lying central midfielder, and Scholes is a play maker. All different, all used differently.

Probably Manucho, before that, Tim Howard.

It would really be best for both parties if he were sold. I won't argue against a little cover though if he stays, considering our casualty count after week 1.

I don't understand how a player of his build can't make himself put in extra shifts on the treadmill to drop a stone or two and benefit from the increased mobility. He's never going to have any pace but the ground he could cover would go up and he could improve his positioning. With those two attributes up, he wouldn't be a half bad player.

6 months a long time in football. A player can improve radically in 6 months (even if it may be just temporary form) or his talent can nose dive further. Now if we had the treble winning side CM then I would say that Gibson should lose all his faith in ever making it with us. Unfortunately we don't have such midfield.

Surely he is worth more than £6m considering Henderson & Downing went for a combined fee of nearly £40m!!!

Another one off the wage bill soon for the incoming Dutch bloke?

Nah will be used to give players that are here a better salary due to improving and thus maintaining our wage structure.

We have a history of selling our players for cheap (bar Ronaldo obviously, but then again he was the best player in the world in 2008) but if we actually get £6m for him, it would be one of the best sales ever made by this club.

United fans too low an opinion of Gibson. He's well worth six mil.

He's a good passer with a cracking long shot, there's not too many of those around.

According to the Mail, Villa are possibly interested in Gibbo, but for the bargain price of £3.5million

Aston Villa are making a £3.5million move for Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson.

The Republic of Ireland international saw a move to Sunderland fall through last month despite initial discussions.

The 23-year-old is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following the emergence of players such as Tom Cleverley and is keen to get his career back on track.

Not too sure I'd be happy with that sort of a transfer fee, sure he isn't worth 10mil, but 3.5, not nearly enough...yet I get the feeling, for a million more, United will sell him.

United don't want to keep him. We may bargain a bit, but he will go and if 3.5m is the best offer we've got, we'll take it.

Yup, he is completely out of the loop, a real shame his Sunderland move fell through. His fate here was sealed at the end of last season, and he has quite clearly been told, he has no future here.

Just think comparatively speaking, 3.5mil is very very cheap, for a player with a bit of PL experience, and skill set that should see him slot in comfortably for a mid table team, which is exactly what Villa are, at best.

gibbo is worth at least £5million imo, but if he is not going to be in the fergei's plan then no point of keeping him longer. i think his contract is going to end in 12 months time as well. him leaving could mean that the likes of pogba and morrison could get some playing time in the carling cup ties as well.

£3.5m does seem a bit cheap given he's scored in 3 Champions League semi-finals for us, but with only a year to go on his contract and it being pretty obvious we don't want or need him - it's a decent fee to get.

Wish Gibson well. He got a lot of stick, some deserved and some not as much. He has great potential and I still think he's capable of more than what he's showed so far. Maybe it wasn't meant to work out for him at United but he's good enough to play Premier League football that's for sure and with a shot like his he'll always be valuable to someone.

Might as well keep him since we wont be buying a new midfielder, an extra pair of legs over 60 games wouldn't hurt.

Final year of his contract.

If we have an injury crisis with any of the established midfielders (Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher, Cleverley) then Giggs, Jones, Young, or Pogba can easily deputise - Valencia also plays for his country in midfield.

From the looks of things, it seems like Diouf, Gibson and even Berbatov might be up for sale. That could easily raise 20mil, which will go a long way towards replenishing our transfer outlay during the summer.

If Berbatov went last month we would have got £20m just from him. Now with Gibson for £3.5m. SAF has sent an asking price of almost £6m for Diouf. I don't think anyone will pay that much for him.
