Darron Gibson to Leave United?

He's worth between 7 and 8 goals a season. That could be the difference between Relegation and not, and Europa or not. Certainly worth more then 5 mil

He'll never score 7 or 8 league goals and his new club is very unlikely to play anywhere else.

I agree he's worth more than £5m, but I can't see him getting 7 or 8 goals a season. He just won't get the time, space, positions and opertunities he get's when he's playing for United.

7 or 8 goals playing regularly for Utd maybe, for a mid table team I'm not so sure.

I'm not his biggest critic, I actually think he'll be quite decent once he starts getting a run of games.

The fact is he's surplus to requirements at Utd, has never nailed down a spot and is in the last year of his contract, there's no way we'll get more than 4-5 million for him. He can sign for someone next year for free.

I tend to agree with that. At clubs like Villa he simply won't have the time or space to take as many shots as he does, so you'd assume he'd become a bit less prolific. Who knows, he might kick on and move up a level by playing every week (though I don't know that he'll automatically get in the Villa team).

Final year of his contract.

If we have an injury crisis with any of the established midfielders (Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher, Cleverley) then Giggs, Jones, Young, or Pogba can easily deputise - Valencia also plays for his country in midfield.

I guess, but for such a cheap fee we may be better off with his experience and an extra option than the money.

Couldn't give a toss about the transfer fee. Fergie rarely tries to play hardball when it comes to selling on players that want to move for regular football, as pay back for their years of loyal service. Which is admirable IMO.
You're making a virtue out of necessity, you can't get buying clubs to accept high wages and a transfer fee if you want surplus players off your wage bill.

Any 23 year old that would start in CM for at least half of the premiership has to be worth more than £5m

Exactly.
 god Pogue what was that. Years of loyalty? CMon, it's not like he was virtually haunted was he our good old Gibbo?
Complained more than once as well about his role at the club, so now he got his wish.
Good for us, good for him to ship him out.

Not only would he be very unlikely to score 7/8 goals a season for a mid table club because he wouldn't get the room, he also wouldn't be allowed to shoot as often by his manager (in my opinion). At United he was allowed to have a few punts every game without recourse, at clubs like Villa where possession comes at a higher premium, I doubt giving the ball back to the opposition keeper a few times a game would be tolerated to the same extent.

I'd say £3-5m is pretty fair all round: He has 1 year left on his deal, probably commands quite high wages for an inexperienced player and the buying club knows he is 100% surplus to requirements.

I want the lad to stay, but this isn't likely it seems.

The fee is a bit too low but I'm sure it wouldn't deter Sir Alex granting Gibson alot more playing time elsewhere.

Hopefully he fulfils his potential at a club like Villa.

Needs to move. Villa would be good for him, even if he won't be guaranteed to get in the team.

Yes. Years of loyalty. Gibson's been with the club 7 years now and could have pushed for a move at any point but instead accepted his role as a squad player. You're talking out your arse with your comment about him complaining. In fact, he did the opposite - disagreeing with the manager of his country who repeatedly encouraged him to move on for the good of his international career.

"If Trapattoni wants me to move on from a club like Manchester United to better my game, move to somewhere like Stoke where I'll get more games, but have little chance of winning anything, then I just don’t know,” he said.

“Where else would I go from Manchester United? At what club, other than Manchester United, could I go to improve my game?

“To move on from Manchester United just doesn't make sense to me.

My point was mainly based around players like Phil Neville, O'Shea, Brown and Nicky Butt but the same applies here. Allowing players to leave to their club of choice, rather than insisting they join the highest bidder, has always been his approach.

I really think we should give him a season on loan at a PL club before we get rid, or at least insert a reasonable buy-back clause into any sale contract we make.

Why the hell would you want to insert a buy-back clause? We are already going to be finding it hard to play everyone consistently this year with everyone performing brilliantly so far. There is more talent coming from the academy in the next year or too. He has no chance of breaking in to the first team unless its a FA or CC game.

unfair, he had a couple of good games and scored an absolute belter against the Welsh

He scored a good goal. He has been distinctly average at best and lies behind the likes of Glenn Whelan & Keith Andrews in the pecking order. Regardless of what donkeys Trapattoni likes playing, the only reason Gibson gets a look in is because of Andrews' injury problems. One could argue that Keith Fahey is also ahead of him in the pecking order. The reason Gibson isn't ahead of these players is because he hasn't shown anything to show that he is worthy of being so.

Before those quotes he considered leaving United more than once because of lack of first team football. Not saying I can't understand him, but he surely wasnt too happy with his role, understandably.
He will play a bigger part now at Villa.

And to your last point: I don't think there were that much enquiries for Gibson. You are a tad too romantic there.

Hope this is true and it works out for him. That stated price doesn't reflect his true value but since he's been in limbo we can't really complain. It's better he moves on while he still can.

Aston Villa are a good club and their squad does need strengthening in midfield. Gibson could actually play a big part in their development over the next few seasons. They try to play an attractive style of football and that will also suit him well.

we'll have to agree to disagree. Personally, i believe Trap picks players who dont talk back to him and who will fit into his system rather than picking the actual best Irish players

imho

Possibly.

Gibson has performed to less of a standard than his compatriots when he has played though, imho.

feck me I hope he does leave. It will increase the chances of us getting decent centre mid

It wont effect it either way, that's not how Fergie does his business, and really everyone needs to realize there is no midfielder coming in now.

I am not sure any club would really give more than 2.5 mil pounds for him.

He will make a career in championship at best though.

Anyone who thinks Gibson isn't a premiership player should get their head checked. He'll do well at 70% of the clubs in the PL.

We bought Rooney with a broken metarsal. As long as it's healing properly it's not an issue. 4 weeks isn't that long.
