This hurts. Selling a good youth product to one of our main rivals for a fecking bullshit fee when they are desperate?! Woodward's meant to be good at squeezing every penny out of the other organisation!!

He could have wanted to stay and fight for his place. Another year or two and Rooney and RVP will both probably be near the end of their careers leaving him with a clear path to being the number one striker.

You're asking a young, talented and hungry young man with about a decade left of his career to wait another 2 years to get his chance? Come on mate he's human like the rest of us.

Yeah, because everyone was gutted when Cleverley was on his way out. PEople actually rate him, and Spurs and Arsenal wanting him proves that he is actually quality player, and while we are at it, he is much better player in 2014 than your beloved one.

You are talking about that spell like he had MEssi esque impact, when in reality he played 12 games and scored 8 goals, pretty much same stuff Welbeck did while Rooney and van Persie were injured during January.
Except Sturridge did it over 6 months. Welbeck has never done it consistently.

How much can you do to actually stop the playing going though?

Just curious, greater players than Welbeck have moved to rivals and the club have been powerless to stop them.

It probably didn't help that he wants Arsenal and only Arsenal.

suddenly hes a 20-25 goals forward :wenger:
i get it he is a local lad and its arsenal but hes just a squad player and 4th pick for us

Look how much pace they'll have in their front line compared to ours.

Van Gaal has made a big call today in replacing Welbeck by Falcao. Hope he's vindicated.
No he hasn't, Welbeck is all potential with no deliverance so far.

Very little to moan about this window, but I cant help sit here hoping this doesn't happen. I love Danny.

Last season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2013/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
Spent the first half of the season playing almost exclusively on the left side, then got his chance in December and scored 6 goals and had 2 assists in 7 matches. Got injured and didn't get 90 minutes again until the last day of the season.

Fergie's last year: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2012/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
Longest chance given as a striker -- 3 games, combined 31 minutes. Shunted wide all season long. Only 1300 minutes all season in 27 games. An average of less than 50 minutes per appearance.

First season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2011/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
9 league goals as a 20 year old.

The problem amongst United fans is he's judged as a striker despite playing wide left more often than up front. I'd be delighted if I was an Arsenal fan, fantastic deal they've got.

A player like Danny could win the ball off a defender, beat a player, win a penalty but if Rooney scores the penalty then a year later nobody will remember who really made the goal and the stats will show Rooney is doing the "strikers job" while Danny isn't .

I have a feeling it's the match going reds that appreciate Danny far more than the armchair fans.

What the feck are you talking about? Bolton was a 6 month loan spell where he was exceptional. Most thought he stagnated at Chelsea but they had better forwards and it was understandable.

I had to edit my post, but at Bolton, he was still behind Welbeck and Rooney for England, which showed that he was not rated as highly as he is now. Before his move to liverpool Sturridge was barely rated and underutilized because the manager overlooked his talent.

With Welbeck, he has been underutilized and lost his place as the starting striker for England due to not playing consistently for United. Connection can be drawn as both these players showed vast amount of potential when they were young. Moreover, how their ability has been overlooked.

Gutted that's he on the way. Only player going forward with pace, apart from Di Maria, important in the big games and on the counter. He's very talented and makes our game more fluid, granted he's not lethal but he's never been giving a full run in his favoured position. It's similar to Sturridge at Chelsea and now look at him for Liverpool.

A home-grown young lad has been replaced by a foreign 29year old. If Welbeck wasn't happy sitting on the bench and he could play on the wings, how are we supposed to keep Falcao happy?

Lets not forget Welbeck has pushed for this!
Oh no, we forced him out because we didn't play him enough, local lad, local lad, forced out wide, garble, garble.

I think there's an element of sentimentality getting involved in people's reactions here, and also the fear of change.

The thing is, we need change.

As I said earlier in a genuine question - how would you feel if we kept Welbeck and Arsenal signed Falcao? How would fancy our chances of finishing above them? How would you feel about their chances of winning the league if they signed Falcao?

I'm also sad to see Danny go, but I'm glad that we're giving him a decent move, same with Hernandez - it will factor well for us when enticing other young prospects. It shows that we're not bitter and we won't prevent our players from moving on when they're surplus to requirements.

This also sends an important message to our youngsters - take your chances and fight to get into the team or your off.

Strange that so many people seem to have ignored Welbeck's goalscoring record last year. In the league last season...

Giroud: A goal every 193 minutes
Welbeck: A goal every 161 minutes

Not really a useful statistic when he's played so little.

Strangely not too fussed about this. I know he's a local product and losing him will be a shame no doubt. But it just might open up a far bigger opportunity for Wilson, who also an academy graduate and more talented IMO. Plus he'll get to learn from Rooney + Robin + Falcao. Dunno we'll see.

The transfer fee could've been higher TBH but then Chelsea sold Sturridge for about £12 million. Anyway goodbye and goodluck Danny. :)

Good post mate.

He isn't a patch on Sturridage. I'm not sure why people always try and claim that. One has blatantly got a higher level than the other.
no before Sturridge move to Chelsea, nobody believed he could play as a CF. Not even chelsea fans.

I remember a quote from Ray Wilkins a few years back before Sturridge went out on loan for Bolton. He said something along the line that Sturridge could be as great as he wanted to be.

That just isn't true at all.
Name me one goal in an important game that lead us to win the tie, because with the other 3 we had at the start of the day I easily could.

I don't know if I'm more angry or upset by this. Absolutely appalling bit of business.

Jesus christ, how can you say that. Hope its just the glasses, its not a coincidence only United fans rate him.

They were just saying that, the minute the news came out that we were looking to offload him Spurs and Arsenal were instantly after him. Liverpool may have been too if they hadn't just signed Balotelli.

Arsenal away in 2012 without even thinking I could remember that.

Except Sturridge did it over 6 months. Welbeck has never done it consistently.

So 8 goals over 6 months is more impresive than 6 goals over one month?

surely not, looked like a striker at Chelsea to me, has the selfishness and shoot on sight mentality.

...and going into next season our strikeforce will consist of 30 year old Rooney, possibly permanently crocked 32 year old RvP, and maybe Wilson. Apart from anything else, we should have the good sense to avoid strengthening one of the 2 sides (along with Liverpool) we'll likely be in closest competition with for a top 4 place this season. It all seems pretty short-sighted to me.
