Why do you keep saying he's not? You don't rate him much, we get it, you don't really need to point it out every 15 minutes.

I've said in this thread a fair few times that I think he's a good player and that he'll fit in well at Arsenal, perhaps even managing 15 goals or so for them if he has a good season and all goes well for him.

It's just that some are wildly overrating him and automatically assuming he'll become as good as Sturridge. Seriously, I know that people are annoyed we've lost a decent local player, but the people slating our transfer dealings when we've just signed Falcao and Di Maria among others are being seriously harsh on the club here.

His finishing is pretty terrible but playing 35-40 games, I reckon he'll get 10-15 goals. 15 is being optimistic but he won't get 20, he'll never be that good imo. Its remarkable though how everyone's crying about him leaving without him even proving himself a great deal at United. Says it all that all rival fans including Arsenal fans are unsure about the transfer and can't see why they're paying £16m for a striker that can't score (sounds familiar to Arsenal fans?) whereas United fans are crying as if Ronaldo has left the building.

Strange comment to make, especially in the context of referring to my prediction, given that I said that the move makes sense for all parties as long as you overlook the fact that he's going to one of our rivals.

I'd be interested to know what Giggs' opinion is on this. Obviously he wants to be actively involved with United with a view to becoming manager one day, but I'm pretty certain he won't be pleased with this decision as assistant manager.

I don't know what to make of the Falcao move, but this one truly baffles me...more so because of how it strengthens a rival.

Why are people so sure he is going to 'do a Sturridge'? There's every chance he won't and he'll just continue to be a good all round player. Not ideal but we've still had an unbelievable transfer window. Basically, chin up everyone.

Because when Struridge was at Chelsea, he was not getting gametime and while he was at Bolton, he was barely named as a potential England team member. Moreover, fans would call him a shite Danny Welbeck. Now the tide has turn and Welbeck is not getting gametime and has now moved to a team like Sturidge who will give it to him.

Both these players showed potential when they were young, but they were hindered by star signing or moved to a lesser role. The comparison is just and had he moved to a team like hull, maybe their will not be a comparison.

The next sturridge
When it clicks we are going to be kicking ourselves
Good luck to him
Why because he's a black forward? It's like people comparing him to Henry when he was a kid, it's borderline racist tbh.

What the feck are you talking about? Bolton was a 6 month loan spell where he was exceptional. Most thought he stagnated at Chelsea but they had better forwards and it was understandable.

Erm he's on loan and we need to pay another 43m on top of the 6m we already paid for the loan to buy him. Yeah great deal for a position where someone will have to be dropped to play anyway.

If he delivers for us this season then, yeah, it's a great deal.

I can see the comparison and I agree it is possible but it's nowhere near the certainty many people are claiming it is. These kinds of comparisons are made all the time and the reality doesn't always turn out the same.

Child like attitude...
What is wrong to not want your yougster and local lad going to rival club. I admit i will not be cheering for him and i don't want him to do well because this would probably mean that we are out of top 4.

If he would go a club who is not our rival i would still be his big fan but not now. I was really big supporter of him and because of that i am so much more disapointed.

The only reason people are this gutted is because he's a local boy and not because of the talent or quality he really has. Sure he works hard but he's been an extremely frustrating player to watch. The only thing annoying about this whole situation is that if we just outright refuse to deal with Arsenal, they have no striker other than Sonogo till January. Also rather disappointed by his decision to apparently force through this permanent move to Arsenal. For a local guy who loves United and is United through and through, pushing through only for an Arsenal move is quite disappointing.

We have better and he wants to play more regularly. Fair enough really.

We've been saying for years he's so close to being the finished article but his progress has been slow. I hope he doesn't suddenly step up a couple levels at Arsenal. I'm not overly worried about that happening though...

Yeah I'm feeling pretty confident about it as he will be the main man for them.
I don't think he will. Giroud, when fit, will start. He's a donkey but he's a donkey that scores. Welbeck is a faster, silkier donkey that doesn't score.

Welbeck's best performance? The Madrid matches? He even scored!

Why because he's a black forward? It's like people comparing him to Henry when he was a kid, it's borderline racist tbh.

I think it is more to do with the similarities of a player at a top club not played in his correct position, leaving to join another, and potentially flourishing like Sturridge has tbh.

He will thrive at Arsenal, decent passers such as Ozil, Cazorla, and Wilshire supplying him with his pace. More games he plays, the more he will improve. Great buy for a talented player who is still relatively young.

Last season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2013/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
Spent the first half of the season playing almost exclusively on the left side, then got his chance in December and scored 6 goals and had 2 assists in 7 matches. Got injured and didn't get 90 minutes again until the last day of the season.

Fergie's last year: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2012/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
Longest chance given as a striker -- 3 games, combined 31 minutes. Shunted wide all season long. Only 1300 minutes all season in 27 games. An average of less than 50 minutes per appearance.

First season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dann...r/67063/saison/2011/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985
9 league goals as a 20 year old.

The problem amongst United fans is he's judged as a striker despite playing wide left more often than up front. I'd be delighted if I was an Arsenal fan, fantastic deal they've got.

Shane Long £12m
Brown Ideye £10m
Ulloa £10m

The fee we're getting is a disgrace in this market for a young English striker with plenty of experience at international level and Champions League level.

Why because he's a black forward? It's like people comparing him to Henry when he was a kid, it's borderline racist tbh.

A young English lad having not fulfilled potential after being shunted out wide and not being given a real opportunity and always playing second fiddle moving from one top club to a rival/potential rival? Come on.

I'd bet Giggs is more ruthless than you think. He might be thinking if I was the boss I'd do it differently, but I'm also thinking he'll be pleased to know if he gets to be manager he'll have Di Maria and Falcao.

Also rather disappointed by his decision to apparently force through this permanent move to Arsenal. For a local guy who loves United and is United through and through, pushing through only for an Arsenal move is quite disappointing.

To be honest, I think it's naive to think that a player is going to consider club loyalty when chosing another club. I'm sure Danny's love of United would make him ideally want to stay here, but having decided to go elsewhere in search of game time, he is purely going to chose based on which club is best for his career, and it's ridiculous to expect anything different.

Wish he could have pushed for a loan instead though. He must have got no encouragement in that respect from LVG.

Yeah, because everyone was gutted when Cleverley was on his way out. PEople actually rate him, and Spurs and Arsenal wanting him proves that he is actually quality player, and while we are at it, he is much better player in 2014 than your beloved one.

What the feck are you talking about? Bolton was a 6 month loan spell where he was exceptional. Most thought he stagnated at Chelsea but they had better forwards and it was understandable.

You are talking about that spell like he had MEssi esque impact, when in reality he played 12 games and scored 8 goals, pretty much same stuff Welbeck did while Rooney and van Persie were injured during January.

Strange that so many people seem to have ignored Welbeck's goalscoring record last year. In the league last season...

Giroud: A goal every 193 minutes
Welbeck: A goal every 161 minutes

Really gutted with seeing Welbeck go. Gives the whole Falcao-transfer a sour taste as well. I thought the latter had to do with a possible knee-op for Van Persie, but selling Welbeck probably means it isn't.
