I'm quoting you right now, and making a note of coming back to your post at the end of the season! :smirk: We'll see who's right then, my tip is that he'll end up with at least 18 goals in the league. Feel free to point and laugh if he only bags 12!
No way will he get 18. In 35 games, at most? That's better than a goal every second game, he doesn't have that in him. That's not even taking into account games where he is rested or dropped. 10-15 is far more likely.

Sturridge was played out wide for Chelsea and was still scoring goals. Welbeck is not a goal scorer like him.

Yeah, it's a bit strange. 15 goals is probably an optimistic estimate for him, as well. It could end up being the case that he spends a lot of the season behind Giroud in the pecking order and only gets a few goals for them, for example. I'd be surprised if he makes a massive, massive difference in the top 4 race.
Very strange but as a poster and longtime lurker, I've noticed RedCafe collectively overrates certain players way too much, setting themselves up for fails when it eventually doesn't work out. Welbeck is one of those players. He's actually not as good as most seem to think he is.

I liked Danny. He was unlucky having Rooney, RvP and Hernandez at the club. He'll do well with Arsenal's passing game, and will bring some unpredictability to the team.

I'd agree with this. A more balanced assessment of them. He wasn't going to make it as our main striker, and will be a decent attacking option for Arsenal who should do fairly well there.

This is our Sturridge.

Glad he's leaving for him though, seems a good guy and deserves to be playing every week.
Not as talented. Sturridge showed obvious class at Bolton. Welbeck should've went on a loan much earlier. Possibly the year RVP was signed. His development stagnated.

We've always played him out of position.
Because he isn't a talented enough finisher.

Didn't they pay £16m for Callum Chambers - a player with 22 Premier League appearances?

We've always played him out of position.

But putting him in position doesn't mean he's going to automatically double his goals tally considering his finishing is often inconsistent, especially when considering he could end up out of position at Arsenal if Giroud is their main striker.

Why are people so sure he is going to 'do a Sturridge'? There's every chance he won't and he'll just continue to be a good all round player. Not ideal but we've still had an unbelievable transfer window. Basically, chin up everyone.

I'm interested in what Arsenal fans think of the situation.

Don't forget they were reportedly buzzing around Remy, Falcao, Balotelli, and Benzema/Higuain last year.

Now they have Welbeck.

He needs to leave to better his career.

He'll be ahead of Giroud in the pecking order and he'll be their main striker, he'll get 15+ goals for them.

No he's not. Why do people keep saying he is?

Why do you keep saying he's not? You don't rate him much, we get it, you don't really need to point it out every 15 minutes.

He's proved he can score goals for England and United when played as the main man (starting).

Arsenal create loads of chances too and play football that will compliment Welbeck well, the team his taylor made for him, more so than United were.

Gutted. He's going to be a very good player for them, so I can't believe we're being this stupid. Best of luck Danny.

Why shouldn't he try get the best move for himself?

He could have wanted to stay and fight for his place. Another year or two and Rooney and RVP will both probably be near the end of their careers leaving him with a clear path to being the number one striker.

First of all you haven't got a clue what LVG has said to him and secondly, can you blame him for wanting to leave for first team football when he has bided his time for a few years now plus the club are bringing in one of the best players in the world in his position?
This is only my opinion. I hate this move and he could went on loan somewhere for a year and i am confident that he would get in the first team sooner rather than later. You just don't go to a rival club especially if you are clubs youngster and local lad. It is not right.

If he wanted the move to a top club he should go abroad.

I'm sad to see him go. I always had high hopes for Danny. Maybe unrealistically high hopes, but he tried and failed to make the central spots his own and he was never really happy on the wing. I think Arsenal's game will suit him well.

I'm sad he's going to Arsenal, I'd sooner he was in Madrid or Valencia or wherever. But they want him and he wants them and I'd sooner respect what Danny wants now than insist he moves to a non-CL rival. I'm sad to see him go. It's a real shame it didn't work out. Good luck to him now.

Again we've always played him out of position in the same way Sturridge was always played out of position at City/Chelsea.

But Sturridge demonstrated during his short loan spell at Bolton that he was capable of being a very good goalscorer.

Just because one player does much better at a new club doesn't mean another is guaranteed to. It's like when people used to argue that Anderson was bound to become world class at a later age because it happened to other midfielders like Xavi. It doesn't work like that.

There's a small chance Welbeck could do what Sturridge did, but many people just seem to assume he will out of no other reasoning than the fact that Sturridge did.

You know we're about to sign another striker, right?

Falcao, Rooney, RVP and a promoted Wilson is an even better selection of strikers than we had previously. I'm not too fussed. Welbeck and Hernandez haven't been up to much for a while now. One couldn't finish and the other couldn't play football.

Another thing that pisses me off is that it just further increases Arsenal's British core, Chambers, Ox, Ramsey, Wilshire, Walcott and Welbeck :(

We should have the best British talents.

Oh but he will. He's perfectly capable of scoring a goal every other match, and better.

That of course hinges on the fact that he's playing up front, and not as a wide left midfielder. And at Arsenal he'll obviously play as the striker. Anyways, I've stated it enough times now, so we'll just have to wait until the end of the season to see who's right on this one. I'm quite confident in my prediction on this one, but I wouldn't be devastated if he turns out not to be as good for Arsenal as I believe he will be.

He isn't worth any more than that.

Danny just has potential. Every chance he'll continue to be average for Arsenal.

Let me just get things straight so I don't get misinterpreted. Welbeck is a good player and I reckon he'll do alright for Arsenal. It's a great transfer for them but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad one for us. He'll improve them but he won't suddenly catapult them into top 4. If you think he will, then you'll thoroughly enjoy watching him fail to live up to that this season. Or you won't, just to massage your ego and can carry on convincing yourself he is the (potential) world class player he really isn't and probably never will be.

Absolutely gutted but understand why he has decided to move on

This is laughable. He's basically replaced Welbeck with Falcao. one of the greatest strikers in world football. So we have to lose squad players and if LVG had his way far more probably that whats been achieved in that regard to balance the books. Laters Welbeck!

By balancing the books you mean signing a player for 6m loan, paying him astronomical wages then having the option to pay another 43m to buy him outright? All for a position where we already have a striker. This is just plain stupid. What do we do next year when we are a striker short? Pay another 50m for someone because that's hardly balancing the books.

it was not his decision...

You don't strength your rivals and if we do, not for a nominal fee.

We almost bought 29 Vermaelen from them for feck sake.
