Since when was he a squad player for us? You obviously didn't watch any united games back then.
He was in 99. Then later he proved himself and played regularly. Played left back and centre-back to fill holes in the line-up.

To a rival fighting for (most likely) 1 really important spot in the league. Don't forget that bit.

I'm not. I just don't think Welbeck is such a great player to the point where he's going to completely change the outcome of who finishes 4th. I'd have rather we didn't sell to Arsenal, but it's not a bad offer for him and he's clearly not going to do much here in the future. Better to take £16m for him now than, say, £7-8m next year when his contract is a year closer to ending and his stock has fallen because he'll most likely not have featured a lot.

I'd have just told him he's not going to arsenal and he's not playing ahead of those players. He'd have moved elsewhere.

I imagine we would have tried it considering we weren't willing to sell him anyway but wanted a loan.

No other team wanted a permanent transfer and he was adamant on that apparently.

Gutted.

Going to absolutely hate seeing him in an Arsenal shirt, will look so wrong.

No way is he getting 20 goals at Arsenal. You can quote me on that. His finishing is fecking awful, no matter how much game time he gets, it's still shit, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if by the end of the season Giroud and Walcott end up scoring more goals than Welbeck.

10-15 is more likely.
I'm quoting you right now, and making a note of coming back to your post at the end of the season! :smirk: We'll see who's right then, my tip is that he'll end up with at least 18 goals in the league. Feel free to point and laugh if he only bags 12!

Only United could buy Shaw for £30m and sell Welbeck for £16m. Simply incredible. Not surprised he wanted to leave given the disgraceful way he's been treated. In two or three years' time we will be regretting our stupidity.

Bit over the top no?

It looks like he wanted first team football and i image that LVG said to him you can be a sub or go on loan develop a bit and get a chance next year in the first team.

He instead went to our rival for top 4. He forced it simple as that and noone wanted him gone.
First of all you haven't got a clue what LVG has said to him and secondly, can you blame him for wanting to leave for first team football when he has bided his time for a few years now plus the club are bringing in one of the best players in the world in his position?

Disappointed to lose him permanently and a bit annoyed that we accepted doing business with Arsenal.

Maybe he does rate Welbeck, but just rates RVP and Rooney higher? I'm done with this anyway, I don't even know what we're debating about now tbh

That's the problem in the end, though. He probably does think Welbeck is a good player, since he is, but the problem is that if LVG had really rated Welbeck that much then he'd have kept him. Welbeck forced through the move perhaps, but it's clear that while LVG will think he's a decent player, he's willing to let him go nevertheless.

10-15 is more likely.

15 goals on top of everything else Danny brings would be a great return for Arsenal and make our goal of top 4 a lot tougher.

It's not awful as such, but it's very inconsistent and this notion that Welbeck is suddenly going to become a prolific goalscorer at Arsenal is way off the mark. So we can agree on things to an extent.
His finishing is pretty terrible but playing 35-40 games, I reckon he'll get 10-15 goals. 15 is being optimistic but he won't get 20, he'll never be that good imo. Its remarkable though how everyone's crying about him leaving without him even proving himself a great deal at United. Says it all that all rival fans including Arsenal fans are unsure about the transfer and can't see why they're paying £16m for a striker that can't score (sounds familiar to Arsenal fans?) whereas United fans are crying as if Ronaldo has left the building.

This is our Sturridge.

Glad he's leaving for him though, seems a good guy and deserves to be playing every week.

Sad to see him go. Was quite obvious though with LVG telling him he could leave ad Woody going full muppet mode over the last week or so. Di Maria and Falcao for Welbeck and Chicharito... I know which pair most people would prefer.

Ridiculous. After all of woodys good work he manages to feck it all up!

This is laughable. He's basically replaced Welbeck with Falcao. one of the greatest strikers in world football. So we have to lose squad players and if LVG had his way far more probably that whats been achieved in that regard to balance the books. Laters Welbeck!

Yeah, it's a bit strange. 15 goals is probably an optimistic estimate for him, as well. It could end up being the case that he spends a lot of the season behind Giroud in the pecking order and only gets a few goals for them, for example. I'd be surprised if he makes a massive, massive difference in the top 4 race.

Absolutely gutted Welbeck is leaving, he'll be fantastic after a year of regular football.

I think this is a terrible decision by the club in terms of top four as well. Arsenal look by far the weakest of the competition without Giroud.

Hoping Welbeck gives a decent goodbye statement. If Di Maria can to a club thousands of miles away from his hometown, Danny can to a club only a few from his.

I liked Danny. He was unlucky having Rooney, RvP and Hernandez at the club. He'll do well with Arsenal's passing game, and will bring some unpredictability to the team.

The whole move is awful from our POV.. The sum is ridiculously low, we are losing a local lad whos come through the ranks and has played some of the biggest games we've had.. IF he wants to leave, then at least take Arsenal for every penny they have now that the window is closing and Giroud is out for months.. Welbeck really is their only solution to this. Let's see how much Arse really want him.
