Jesus are you joking. He's a striker who doesn't score. That is the sole purpose of the sport for his position.
No it's not. And he does score when he plays as a striker. His problem is that he's too deferential in the final third. Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are evidently big fans.

That's why we wanted to loan him out instead of selling him. Welbeck pushed for the transfer.

But if LVG had really, really valued him then he'd have kept him and played him. The guy is nearly 24 and has been with us for a number of years now. He's too old to be going off on loan. If he was going on loan, LVG obviously didn't see a lot in him in the long term.

This hurts. The good people at Arsenal have gotten themselves a very classy, very talented player.

I think he'll do very well at Arsenal. His link up play has always been good, he runs the channels really well, decent 1st touch and positioning, and he's one of only forwards at United who can actually press high up the pitch. His finishing is not up to scratch, but he's only 23 years old and I've no doubt it'll improve. Obviously United have signed probably the best striker in the world today, so not a huge loss in that sense, but our 3 main strikers will all be the wrong side of 29 before the end of the season, and losing Welbeck seems a shame.

Welbeck has pace/skill/tactical discipline all of which Rooney lacks. He's very underrated because he was never given the time through the middle instead shunted to a wide role.

If he was that good he'd have played as a striker more. He wasn't because Rooney is on another planet in terms of goalscoring and overall ability, hence why he always plays up top.

Like they were of Silvestre?

Yes he does. There's not a lot wrong with his game that can't be fixed.

He will never be a striker that gets you 25+ goals a season. He just lacks the necessary composure in front of goal. There are people comparing this to when Chelsea let Sturridge go but I can't see Welbeck developing at the same rate. Sturridge showed at Bolton he is a proper goalscorer. Welbeck has never done likewise.

Good move for Welbeck. If Wenger ever wanted a young player that he can sculpt in the mold of Henry, Bergkamp or Ian wright he has just landed the right player.

For Manchester United sake, I hope Falcao will be able to play alongside some of the zombies we have in our attack. If he can, then we will still have a chance for a champion league place.

He is nowhere near as talented as Daniel is.

The only comparisons are that they're roughly the same age, are forwards and are English.

Honestly, it ends at about there. Sturridge is a far better player and has been for a considerable while now.

decent fee and signing a better replacement but dont think we shoud have sold welbeck. he'll do well at arsenal im certain but regardless of that he was a useful player to have and there are several remaining that dont deserve to be here.

It's rather disappointing that he's apparently pushed for a permanent deal and for a deal to Arsenal. I don't think Welbeck is anything brilliant but I really hope we don't sell to Arsenal after the way they screwed us over for Vermalean.

Go back and watch some of our games like Bayern last year, compare the performance of Danny and Wayne and tell me who the passenger is and who is doing the carrying.

Okay, Danny does occasionally have games like that which was great because his pace and power gave some opposition real problems. But Rooney has scored a lot more goals over the past few seasons despite the criticism.

Any of the overreacting pack ever seen Falcao play? I love Welbeck, but Falcao is an unbelievable upgrade on him. Now imagine Arsenal getting Falcao... the moaning would be endless and we'd be in much more trouble. Relax everybody, we'll get top four, even with Arsenal signing Welbeck.

If we can't finish 4th with the players and manager we have, it won't be Danny Welbeck that would have caused that. We've signed players who improve us and offer us a cutting edge while throwing in a world class proven winger and goalscorer.

It's sad that Welbeck felt the need to say he wants to leave but it's life, there will be players who will take his place. Wilson is a far better finisher and has a lot more potential in my opinion.
The problem though is we are giving our closest 4th place rival a striker. He is far more valuable to them than £16m. If he wins them just 1 extra point, it's not worth it for us as it may have massive long-term implications.

There needs to be a 'not ideal, but not the end of the world' type poll option as opposed to just big mistake and okay with it.

I reckon we'll see the same lumbering forward we saw playing for United turning in the same performances week in, week out for Arsenal.

Ideally I'd want more than £16m because he's young and he's English but if we forget the English tax for a moment, that's how much he's worth.

So are we getting a good player?

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

You're getting a good striker who will be perfect for your team. He will bring the best out of Sanchez, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ox, Cazorla, etc.

Strengths: hold-up play; movement; pace; technique; link-up play; good finisher

Weaknesses: can drift out of games when not playing well; prone to fluffing a chance here and there; knee problems that can make him injury-prone

The former two weaknesses contribute to the fact that he's currently not shown himself to be someone who can score 30+ goals a season. However, if he gets regular match time, his strengths can be very useful for Arsenal, and I'm sure he can get at least 18 goals when he establishes himself at Arsenal.

I fail to see any similarities between Danny Welbeck and James Wilson. The later is a fox in the box, he is a natural goal scorer.. Danny whilst shows good attributes in some areas never struck me as someone who will score you bags of goals.

I'm not comparing them in terms of ability. I'm comparing them in terms of their position in the team ladder and the reputation both carried with them when they were coming up. Both impressed in their first few appearances in the first team, and both appeared/appear promising and likely to make the first team in the future.

I also think this deal makes sense for all involved parties, if you're willing to overlook the fact that we're selling to a rival. Welbeck obviously won't get the opportunities he wants here, because we have other options ahead of him. Arsenal don't, to the same extent at least.

Anyways, c'est la vie, and congrats to Arsenal for bagging a quality striker. He'll get around 20 goals in the league for you guys, and will help you in Europe as well. His big game mentality is fantastic.

Van Gaal didn't really get a chance to play him tbf.

But if he'd told Welbeck that he was going to be our main striker then Welbeck would've probably stayed. He obviously didn't, because he doesn't feel he's good enough for that, and that he won't be.

What manager would tell a player they would be a main striker with RVP and Rooney at the club already though? Only a player like Falcao could be told that.

That's what the press/journalists are saying. Also, it was not long ago that he apparently handed in a transfer request under Moyes.
Thanks, but somehow I doubt it. If it was United not wanting him to leave, United could have made it harder and squeezed more out of Arsenal, this seems more like he was surplus to requirements and the club wanted to sell
