hyperbole ? We are selling a striker to the team who we will most likely be scrapping for the last UCL spot with. Glad for Welbeck but this is fecked up.

You're all acting like we're selling them our star player. This is no reversal of the VP to us deal!

We've just signed Falcao!!

Meulensteen saying what real United fans already know about Danny on ssn right now.

He prob knows his abilities better than anyone.

16mill is a ridiculous price. He should be starting for us and not being sold. Watch him bang them in for Arsenal.

He's a bit overrated on here isn't it?
People make out that he has everything but the finishing - he's got quite a lot to develop in the rest of his game too.

The only disappointing thing about this is the whole homegrown thing and the fact it's to Arsenal. Otherwise he's not good enough to start here and therefore it makes sense for him to leave when he's not prepared to sit around.

It's an inherent United problem, has been forever. We've always sold our players for nothing. It comes from only selling players that we don't want, rather than being forced to sell (massive exception: Ronaldo - got 80 mil for him).

It doesnt though does it. Plenty of other clubs get good fees for players they dont want - Chelsea with Mata, Real Madrid with Ozil and so on. We seem to accept the first pathetic offer

Thanks for all the replies guys.

He sounds like he has everything except proficiency in front of goal. Wenger will show him where the goal is, after all he made Adebayor into a 30 goal a season striker.
He doesn't need showing where the goal is, he just needs playing in the right position.

We'll look back on this like we do Pogba. Player might want to move on but in this instance we should be in the driving seat.

Massive overreaction here IMO. He's been a back up for a while and wasn't really that good when called upon, he clearly wasn't in van Gaal's plans and we have replaced him with Falcao. £16m is also a decent price for a player who doesn't have a place in your team although I'd have expected £20m.

This is going to cost us 4th, and we fecking deserve it for being willing to sell a striker to Arsenal.

feck sake. Pretty pissed off with this one. Strengthening arguably our closest rivals for top 4 in a position that they are weakest. Load of bollocks.

For all of you saying that £16m is a good fee, they wanted £15m for a 29 year old injury prone back up defender, yet we're selling our rivals someone who's 23, home grown and lots of potential for a million more? Yeah that's a shit deal whichever way you look at it.
Woodward is useless at selling players it seems.
Right... And what has he done to deserve a higher fee?? Arsenal were probably not willing to go higher and it was Danny who's pushed for a permanent transfer. For Danny's sake, it's better to let him go. £16m is a decent deal for a wantaway player.

That's not the point. It's that we are selling him to the team we are most likely to be competing with to get top 4, in a position they desperately need to give them a good chance of beating us to it.

First Shinji for 8m and now Welbeck for 16m? Chicha on loan and Cleverley probably staying. Plus Lawrence sold too. Shit business

£16m is fecking ridiculous on deadline day when we have the bargaining power

Shaw - £27 mil
Lallana - £25 mil

Welbeck - £16 mil

Robbed, once again.

Relative to performance in Lallana's case Welbeck is inferior, and relative to promise, and performance Shaw is better.

Disappointing, but its the best move for Welbeck. He was never going to wait another 3-4 years to become first choice, and he'll have that at Arsenal. Just at the club at the wrong time IMO. No better team then Arsenal to suit his style either.

Your missing the point, 90 minutes to go and Arsenal don't have a striker, we have just handed them one on a plate. The RVP deal did little harm to Arsenal as we weren't competing with them, at the moment I would say were rivals.

Starting for us with the quality of striker we have?

He won't bang them in for Arsenal. People thinking he'll be a Sturridge, he won't be. He's not ruthless enough and doesn't have a goalscoring instinct. Sturridge was always miles better.

Who cares about the sum? Hes joining our biggest rival to top4 spot and most definitely will become new sturridge there. Well the worst thing is simply that he was forced away by van Gaal who rather bought colombian striker who is after long injury and shit spell at monaco and who is at best 28 of not in his thirties already.. he could be upgrade on Van Persie and rooney but this is as inbalanced up front as it can be. FFS VAN GAAL, PHILOSOPHY, BALANCE? You are clearly out of your mind if you let this happen. This is the opposite. And dont forget to mention that I am no manager and know shite all.. I start to dislike him for this.

Really disappointed to see Danny go. One of my favourite United players at the moment, a home grown player and always worked hard for the team. Shame he didn't find scoring goals natural and maybe we just can't carry a striker like that.

feck this. This potential deal has depressed me enough to ruin deadline day. I am out. I will look at the depressing news tomorrow and hope the blow of losing him is softened by us signing a big name defender/midfielder too.
He's no great loss, no more than an average player. Van Gaal saw that for himself.

Van Gaal has told him already that he won't start much or whatever.

And he is adamant to move permanently to Arsenal now.

Not sure what else we could do.

I'll miss him :(.

I know we've signed Falcao (albeit only on loan), who's a fantastic player, but dammit I liked Danny.
