Danny Welbeck | Manchester United: 2001-2014

Considering we got nothing for Hernandez or Nani and just £6 million for Kagawa, £16 million for Welbeck is an amazing deal. The only problem is we might very well have given Arsenal what they need to finish in front of us, which will cost a lot more money

What deals we've made over the summer. It pays to have a smart businessman doing your negotiating.

Devastated with this.

Really hope Welbeck has instigated this and insisted. Otherwise I'm very disappointed with LVG and the club. Horrible way to end the window.

Not only are we strengthening Arsenal, but we have once again shown ourselves in incapable of striking a good deal.

I am one those who is sad seeing a youth product and local lad go. He is or was United through and through.

Welbeck at least has pace what we really lack up front and he is still young enough to improve his goalscoring record.

What is when Falcao joins Madrid after one season, what is obviously his dream? Welbeck, despite being 4 th choice now could play a part when RVP is injured and we keep Planing 2 up front.

It doesnt though does it. Plenty of other clubs get good fees for players they dont want - Chelsea with Mata, Real Madrid with Ozil and so on. We seem to accept the first pathetic offer

True, but then we've never sold a superstar like Mata, Ozil or Fabregas in this new day and age of '£30-mil-is-cheap'. 'Spose Veron was and we sold him for £20 odd mil in 2003 to Chelsea having been not that good. The one true superstar we've sold was Ronaldo. Beckham for £25 was a lot back then too. Welbeck for 16mil, while being a certified shit deal for us, isn't surprising.

Might have something to do with the feck off wages we seem to give everyone?

Your missing the point, 90 minutes to go and Arsenal don't have a striker, we have just handed them one on the plate. The RVP deal did little harm to Arsenal as we weren't competing with them, at the moment I would say were rivals.

They've got Sanchez, they've got Podolski, J Campbell and even Sanogo.

Will Welbeck make such a difference? I'm not sure.

well soon find out if we've ballsed up!
I still think Liverpool is the spot to steal.

Starting for us with the quality of striker we have?

He won't bang them in for Arsenal. People thinking he'll be a Sturridge, he won't be. He's not ruthless enough and doesn't have a goalscoring instinct. Sturridge was always miles better.

He's 23 and was rarely given a chance to play upfront. I would happily take him over Rooney right now.

This is going to cost us 4th, and we fecking deserve it for being willing to sell a striker to Arsenal.

If we can't finish 4th with the players and manager we have, it won't be Danny Welbeck that would have caused that. We've signed players who improve us and offer us a cutting edge while throwing in a world class proven winger and goalscorer.

It's sad that Welbeck felt the need to say he wants to leave but it's life, there will be players who will take his place. Wilson is a far better finisher and has a lot more potential in my opinion.

This will haunt us in the next few years when he's clicks with Arsenal. Direct top 4 rivals in desperate need of a striker should be made to bleed not get a bargain.

I'd ask Welbeck or Balotelli but that might be a daft question on this forum given one's a red and the other has played for two major rivals.

I think Wenger will be happy here, a fast strong striker. And Welbeck will sleep well playing in the champs league with that midfield behind him.

Really disappointed to see Danny go. One of my favourite United players at the moment, a home grown player and always worked hard for the team. Shame he didn't find scoring goals natural and maybe we just can't carry a striker like that.

Go back and watch some of our games like Bayern last year, compare the performance of Danny and Wayne and tell me who the passenger is and who is doing the carrying.

Good Lord. The overreaction from people on here because of the sale of a squad player for 16 million is priceless. We've brought in a far, far, far, far, FAR superior forward, and got 16 million for a squad member. Fair enough, local lad, but good lord.

Good deal, well done Louis, well done Ed.

A sad day when you lose a proper home grown player who always looked like he'd make the grade, but I can't help but feel some relief for Danny if this goes through. He's obviously been aching for a proper chance to prove himself in his favourite position, and he'll get the chance to do that at the highest level at the Gunners.

I think we'll end up with egg on our face looking back on this deal. He'll do very, very well.

He's no great loss, no more than an average player. Van Gaal saw that for himself.

Yeah, there's some massive overreactions here. He'll get at most about 12-15 goals from them I'd expect, and he isn't guaranteed a starting place once Giroud returns for them, even though he has a better chance here than there. He's a decent signing and I'd rather we didn't sell to a rival, but I'd be surprised if he makes a momentous difference in the top 4 battle. I'd certainly rather we had Falcao and they had Welbeck than the other way around.

Assumptions he's going to "do a Sturridge" are a bit off the mark for me. Sturridge is a completely different player to him and is a much better goalscorer. He could do what Sturridge did, but it's a bit of a baseless assumption in some ways.

Honestly, if he wasn't a youth player then people wouldn't be anywhere near as bothered about this.

It's been a long time since I've seen you posting. All well?

Hopefully he is as poor as some of you say then.

Top 4?

Agent Welbeck.

He kept passing the ball out of touch and barely created anything. Di Maria gets an easier ride because he's new, but he really wasn't that great.
You know apart from creating our only 3 chances, he barely created anything.
