Danny Welbeck | Manchester United: 2001-2014

We set ourselves up for this over the last few years by giving in to Rooney and RVP's wage demands, Welbeck was never going to get a shot up front after that. Imagine he cost us a top 4 spot with one of his awkward dives, the seething it would cause.

I can't see him developing into more than he is now, I'd be surprised if he ever got 25 goals in a season. Lacks the composure.

So are we getting a good player?

What are his strengths and weaknesses?
Check out our games vs. Real Madrid in the12-13 campaign.

He's going to become a star under Wenger. He'll be doing a Sturridge, and we'll regret this transfer.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

He sounds like he has everything except proficiency in front of goal. Wenger will show him where the goal is, after all he made Adebayor into a 30 goal a season striker.

A shame to see him go when he is worthy of a place in the squad and considering Arsenal looked to be in the lurch for strikers if they couldn't get him it doesn't seem to be the best idea to let them have him. Still though, people should calm down a little, you'd think he was Pele from the reaction. He might have a Sturridge like transformation in him, but it's not a certainty, do think he will suit their style of play though.

I can see Arsenal fans who don't rate him (like most neutrals) quickly changing their mind when they watch him week in, week out. They'll see he is a good player. Just a shame, but understandable, that he doesn't want to settle for a squad place here any longer.

In all fairness Welbeck is my favorite player. I'd keep him over everyone. He's also been out best attacking player this year for me.

people have forgotten that he cant hit the target and was more on his ass in the box as on his feet

Had the cheek to say he wanted out which was laughable. Him and his entourage rightly never repeated this once LVG was linked with the club. Presumably he wanted to introduce himself first before expecting Van Gaal to know who he was.

No he won't, and no we won't, £16 million is a good price.

£16m would be good for Everton or Hull or whoever else, but when you're dealing with a club as rich and desperate as Arsenal and can't get even the slightest premium, it further shows how shit Woodward is in negotiating prices. Further, they've completely fecked us over a month ago with Vermaelen.

slightly, just slightly into hyperbole mode their pal.
hyperbole ? We are selling a striker to the team who we will most likely be scrapping for the last UCL spot with. Glad for Welbeck but this is fecked up.

Shaw - £27 mil
Lallana - £25 mil

Welbeck - £16 mil

Robbed, once again.

Saying on SSN just spoke to club in last few minutes and it isn't finalised

There are not many worse sights than seeing Danny Welbeck falls over the ball in the opponents penalty area. Let's hope this is the Welbeck they are getting.

Considering we got nothing for Hernandez or Nani and just £6 million for Kagawa, £16 million for Welbeck is an amazing deal. The only problem is we might very well have given Arsenal what they need to finish in front of us, which will cost a lot more money

For all of you saying that £16m is a good fee, they wanted £15m for a 29 year old injury prone back up defender, yet we're selling our rivals someone who's 23, home grown and lots of potential for a million more? Yeah that's a shit deal whichever way you look at it.
Woodward is useless at selling players it seems.

It's an inherent United problem, has been forever. We've always sold our players for nothing. It comes from only selling players that we don't want, rather than being forced to sell (massive exception: Ronaldo - got 80 mil for him).

If it is £16 million then it is slightly on the low side but i'd hope United would add a ton of add on's to make the deal more worth in the long run.

Just a shame, but understandable, that he doesn't want to settle for a squad place here any longer. My biggest concern is that once again we are failing to get as good a price for our departures as other clubs manage. When you look at the prices of Lallana etc, Welbeck should be going for at least £20 million honestly.

P.S Why are SSN seemingly so far behind on this? Or is everyone else being premature?

What twat agreed on £16m?!! The most vulnerable of last season's top four, in desperate need of a striker, who dragged-out the RVP transfer and refused to deal on Vermaelen, with interest from Spurs and we're accepting that little money for him at age 23? Pathetic.

LOL at the Sky reporter now being inside the Emirates after the cretins outside there earlier.
