At least it's only Arsenal - won't be that difficult to get him back.

Don't understand strengthening a rival we were all laughing when RVP signed for us, okay if he had to sign for Arsenal why the hell only £4M more than sodding Ross McCormack.

It's because he is one of our own blah blah.. the sort of thing that's held us back for years. We've tonight swapped a guy who doesn't score goals for one that does whilst promoting the best prospect in our youth team, I fail to see what the fuss is about.

Reading this reminded me of back in 2007 when people were talking about Welbeck being our best prospect and being a very promising forward, particularly when he first appeared in the first team during the 2008/09 season. Now, it's Wilson's turn to show that promise and potential. Let's see if he can realise it or go down the same path as Welbeck.

Gutted. Interested to hear Rene's thoughts seen as he coached him from a really young age.

He's a bit overrated on here isn't it?
I don't think he is. The problem I have with this transfer is that we are strengthening a side that we are in direct competition with for a Champions League spot. Giroud is out until the end of the year/beginning of next year and they're stuck with the erratic and inexperienced Sanogo as their first choice, so why give them Welbeck? For all his flaws, Welbeck offers Arsenal better link-up play and hold-up play than Giroud and Sanogo and gives them a different dimension in terms of the runs he makes. He obviously has the right to leave the club if Van Gaal has told him he's not a key player or whatever, but selling him to a rival (in their current position) shouldn't happen.

Are people seriously saying we should have sold Juan Mata rather than Danny Welbeck.. I am done.

Fecking infuriating we've bent over and given up Welbeck for so little. He'll do a Sturridge and become a star at Arsenal - all he ever needed was a chance. We'll find a way not to sign Falcao permanently and end up regretting this.

Brilliant work by Arsenal. Welbeck is the sort of striker who can add some heart and grit for them as well as being very all-round. Terrible, absolutely shockingly poor decision from us to let him go.

We have got rid of Kagawa, Welbeck, Nani and Zaha - Our four best wide options of the last year. Now we can't even play with wingers if we want to if we have an injury on Januzaj/Di Maria.

I'm furious, everyone is going to see him kick on now. He has all the skills his game just needs polishing by playing upfront week in week out. He may very well end up being the reason why we don't get into the top 4. Strengthening a direct rival makes no sense t me, hopefully they don't get a dm or a cb.

Bollocks he can't score.

Watch arsenal employ this mental tactic of actually playing him as a striker, he'll score for fun.

I'll hitch my wagon to this statement. We saw it ourselves last year.

I'm going to "I told you so" all over the place when he clicks for Arsenal.

So are we getting a good player?

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

Bags of pace, one of the fastest in the league, which is exactly what you need. Great link-up play. Hard working and good at winning the ball.

Weaknesses: Loses his head in front of goal and can look sloppy at times. A little erratic.

He has wanted to leave us for a while now. Once LVG told him he was not one of his key players, its easy for him to make the next mental step and totally divorce himself from us for a fresh new start.

A great personality with a romantic story but sadly not good enough for what we require of him right now. I think Arsenal will help him get to the next level that he could not achieve with us for several varied reasons. However, I don't think he has what it takes to make it to top player status.

I wish him well.

Agree with this completely.

He wants to go, though I would rather have sold him elsewhere.

For all of you saying that £16m is a good fee, they wanted £15m for a 29 year old injury prone back up defender, yet we're selling our rivals someone who's 23, home grown and lots of potential for a million more? Yeah that's a shit deal whichever way you look at it.
Woodward is useless at selling players it seems.

No he won't, and no we won't, £16 million is a good price.

You said it man, totally agree.

True, but I didn't mean style of play. I meant more as in he doesn't score goals type of player a la Heskey.
But he does when he gets a run of games when he's in form. He did so last season before he was dropped by Moyes for RVP and Rooney who weren't exactly playing at their best.

Fair cnut Welbz. What's fecked me off about this transfer is a couple things. 1) Welbeck isn't shit. He has just suffered from not being played week in week out (see Sturridge) - although the jury is out, now he'll be playing regularly at Arse 2) He's English and a boy-hood United fan!!!

2 has definitely made this transfer 10x worse. It's the equivalent of signing Wilshere.

We got Falcao though! Spanish is officially the no.1 language of the first team.

I fail to see any similarities between Danny Welbeck and James Wilson. The later is a fox in the box, he is a natural goal scorer.. Danny whilst shows good attributes in some areas never struck me as someone who will score you bags of goals.

Look at all the tweets. They keep mentioning BBC when clearly BBC hasn't announce anything about that 16 million deal.

He's a potentially world class player who plays the game as though he's tethered by a bungee cord 30 yards away from goal. Constantly dropping back, avoiding the direct option but bringing others into play. That's not necessarily a bad thing, mind you. He's amazing at everything else so he's never hiding from the game.
