Danny Welbeck | Manchester United: 2001-2014

Gutted we are losing Danny. He isn't the best goalscorer but he is still a great player and has been devoted to this club.

But without being sentimental, Falcao is a far superior player so it is good business on a footballing side.

Out of all the players i wanted to stay at United he headed that list. I agree with getting rid of the deadwood like Cleverley, Nani, Anderson, Hernandez but Welbeck?!

We'll regret this, we really will

I agree with this - can easily see him doing a bit of a Sturridge.

Is anyone at least a little, erm, perturbed by this change in philosophy? Sell local lad that we've developed who may not quite be at the highest level, bring in relative mercenary world class talent.

Winning is obviously part of why I love United, but I feel like this particularly switch kind of kills another part of it.

It does hurt. WHY!!!

Wud rather arsenal win than the chelsea or City! Anyways, I think those three are odds on to take top 3 spots anyway.

I wouldn't. Arsenal fans are among the worst in football. They don't deserve any success. I don't like Chelsea, but their fans aren't assholes at least.

If it's a loan it's great news. We get Falcao in for a year, Danny becomes the leagues top scorer and we get him back next year.

Simples.

We can't have it both ways. Either, he's good enough to make Arsenal better - in which case he's good enough to make us better and he should stay - or he's not good enough for us, thus we should be prepared to sell him to whoever. If it's Arsenal, so be it... just be glad it's not Liverpool.

Ultimately, Welbeck needs to do whats best for him, and what's best for him is clearly a move to Arsenal.

Di Maria wasn't good enough for Real Madrid but is plenty good enough for us. Welbeck is good enough for us, if we didn't have Rooney, RvP and Falcao ahead of him. Arsenal have Giroud and Sonogo, that's the difference.

With Falcao, Rooney and RVP up front? Nah, I think we'll be okay without him. Decent player, but he was never going to be our main striker. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong on that one, but it's unlikely.

Can't believe we loaning to a club who strung us along all summer for Vermaelen. Doing them a favour basically.

Yep. It saddens me.

People getting mad at Welbeck, why? Like Chico, he's a sub at United and has a chance at being a first team player at a big club. Of course he's gonna take it.

Peeps saying force him here, force him there. Have a word. A) He's a human being, we can't force him to go anywhere. We need the cash for the sale, not him, so he can dictate terms. B) He's done his bit but he's not as good as Rooney, Van Persie or Falcao.

Sometimes big clubs lose big prospects. Chelsea lost Sturridge and got Costa, we're losing Welbz but getting Falcao. It happens.

Hopefully it's just a loan. Please be a loan. It won't be a loan.

I love Danny to bits but we've got Falcao and Wilson's probably going to be better anyway tbh.

I hope they have no option to buy. It wouldn't feel right having Welbeck starting for Arsenal when he's a Manc who has been raised at the club since he was a kid.

Can we tempt them with a young lad named Ashley instead? Good finisher, allegedly pretty quick and has a brilliant right foot (if there's nobody within 5 yard radius of him).

We really are turning into Madrid. Replacing a young, talented youth product with a nice expensive new toy.
But isn't that what the fans (at least those over here want)?
Woody is simply delivering what fans are demanding - a plastic team like Chelsea and City.

All the people who laughed at the idea that a top 4 club would want him...

Good luck to him, he's a very good team player who deserves to play regular football.

I love how we can group together whole fanbases into one group.

Ok, the majority of Arsenal fans then, better? I suppose I shouldn't say Leeds supporters are scum because only some of them mock the Munich disaster?

Why the feck are we strengthening a top 4 rival. I'm absolutely fuming. What if they finish 2 points ahead of us due to a Welbeck 90th minute goal?

It's quite easy really. They are huge wankers

Well if we've felt the need to bring Falcao in, then Danny, seemingly, isn't good enough for us... thus we should be prepared to sell him to whoever.

Ultimately, if the club is worried about what he'll do for someone else, they'd have enough confidence in him to keep him here.

Absolute joke us selling Danny to them or any of our rivals. Didnt want to see him go in the 1st place more importantly..

Danny could be outstanding for them this season (out to prove a massive point etc.), and that could really f*ck our shit up gettin into the top 4 by making them stronger.

Should have kept him until we get this season sorted / into Europe next season, and then maybe sell him next summer if needs be.

Very disappointed with this news!

You really can't blame him for choosing Arsenal.

But Rooney and RVP have a history of being world class player. I'd be expecting them to perform much more than Welbeck.

While Welbeck's good, I want a striker to lead the line who can score 25+ goals. I want one who we can view as one of the best strikers in the world. There's no guarantee we get that with Rooney, RVP or even Falcao, but I don't think we're ever going to get it from Welbeck who was always likely to be a squad player here - something he clearly doesn't want to be.

Fair enough if you don't think he can become one, but I disagree about giving others a chance while our (used to be) World class players are playing like crap.

I am. It's worrying.

Very sad about Welbeck leaving. I hope it's a loan, and I hope he comes back. When he signed his recent contract, he was saying he's only ever wanted to play for United. He's a United lad, through and through. This feels awful.

If/when (hopefully when) we revert to 4-3-3, he would be incredibly useful in there. Di Maria and Welbeck/Januzaj at either side of a centre forward would be quality.

We should have worked harder to send him somewhere in Germany IMHO. I don't want him to play for our rivals and hinder us in our quest for top 4.
