Danny Welbeck | Arsenal player

He has been pretty rubbish so far tonight.

His movement upfront is terrible, he is all straight lines up and down the pitch, he seemingly doesn't know how to play up front as the main man.

Looks like he needs a strike partner.

Hope the Arsenal fans aren't too hard on him if he continues in this vein for a while. A lot more pressure was piled on him with the media bigging him up to the hilt as soon as he left United. It was bound to raise expectations a bit too much. He can be a very good backup striker for them in the long term.

You are warning people politely to not post content that suits what you like and you don't?

Sounds terrific. Can't wait till you change the whole forum to suit your opinions.

I bet it will be a wonderful place. The comments are on topic, deal with it.
read his post, he's not telling people not to give opinions, he's telling people not to act like idiots. "I told you so", "see, he sucks" etc.

It'll be the exact same case when the other side of the forum do it after he scores his first goal.

there's nothing wrong with objective criticism. It's the idiots who bump it and sprout "Na na na na na, told you he sucked etc" that are the problem.

And what about when / if he hits a run of form? It will be equally as annoying when all the 'told you he's the next Henry' fanboys come out in force. That's how this thread will be, unfortunately. I think the criticism is warranted considering the meltdown and hysteria when he left. If he hits form, then fine, people can praise away.

If that's the case fair enough, but have you ever read a matchday thread? Its full of kneejerk reactions, tis the nature of football.

I think youse are on a crusade against nought tbh.

Are you capable of reading?

This has nothing to do with opinions whatsoever, something which only you seem to be struggling to understand. It's about idiotic repetitive childishness.

There are moderators on this forum to try to maintain a certain level of quality. Deal with it. Or don't.

it's full of warnings and bans, too.

Mods reserve the right to deem what's appropriate or not, it's why they were asked to do it and it's what they're asked to do. If you can't deal with that, tough.

Think maybe the Welbeck thread should be closed for an hour or so this evening.....

Getting out of hand

It should be closed indefinitely. There's two very contrasting views in here from two very different camps and that won't change.

I agree but when he eventually scores one and the brigade come in whinging and moaning the reaction from the mods won't be the same. I didn't see people looking to stop the same old tired jokes about Cleverley for instance, maybe because they hadn't aggressively pushed their own opposing view that he will become xavi if trusted.

I think you should calm down. It is just words on a screen. About a football player. There is a lot more important things in life to work yourself up into such a state of indignation about.

It's just pure bickering this evening.

Between the pro Welbeck camp and the anti Welbeck camp.....And now, people are bickering at the mods.

No discussions on his performances are going to get done this evening

OK fair enough, I'll shut up.

I'll judge him in 18 months. He's still the player that he was a fortnight ago. He's going to have to drastically improve and play a lot of football to live up to his early potential. You just think he's always going to be the player he currently is, though. He's a player who will do a thousand little things good and the one thing you want him to do he'll cock up.

It's been very much two camps at war since he left. I think the overreacting / hysteria / media hype since he left, have only made things worse.

I'm sorry but where are all the thread ban warnings in the other threads that contain this ridiculousness, last time I checked, it was perfectly OK to poat constant Anderson is fat jokes on his thread. For the last 3 years. I may well be wrong but it seems the strictness of the forum rules depends on how invested the moderator is in the subject at hand.

I think this thread should be banned for a couple of months at least. Otherwise, every time he misses, people will post. Every time he scores, likewise. At least give it a few months, maybe people could make some balanced arguments at that point?

Can I just ask why people are being so sensitive about this? I'm sure there's at least one Torres thread full of people mocking him every time he missed a glaring opportunity. Welbeck shouldn't be given special treatment just because he was once ours. He left us. For a rival. I see nothing wrong with taking pleasure in his misses.

True....I was very angry at the "lost identity" stuff writing here and in the media.
I went to town on it at the time but, it's time to move on from that

Find something in football that we could have a balanced argument on, and I'll buy you sausage and chips

Out of curiosity, why does that bother you, and why do you want for those people to not have the ability to make those posts in this thread?

The Anderson is fat jokes are every bit as tiresome and if they had anything like the impact on discussion that the bullshit in here did there would be similar warnings made.

Only one person has managed to get themselves thread banned, this has bugger all do with mods opinions on players etc.

I get it, some people hate that we sold him others think LvG got it spot on. I expect this threat to swing from one camp to another a lot during the course of the season... I think it'll break all previous records of thread sizes we have in this section!

mods are butt-hurt and we cant criticize an arsenal player on the united forum

Exactly, if it was Giroud everyone'd be laughing. People need to get over it, he plays for a rival now so I don't see why he's any different to the rest of their players, our youth product or not.

Yeah I agree 100%. It was the "lost identity" stuff that I found ridiculous. I was also pretty miffed at some remembering Welbeck as being a far better player for us than he actually was and a handful were actually skewing stats to prove a false point.

Well said.

To be honest, it doesn't really bother me. I just think it's going to be back and forth and kinda pointless. Just a personal take on it, I don't really feel strongly on it though.

Haha, fair point! Well, I just think at the moment, people who are sad he left are in a bit of an uproar ... and tensions seem a little high! We're supposed to be fans of the same club....and we're all at each other's throats here. I'm off topic by the way ... so I'll leave it at that.

OK but the points still stands, wheres the warnings and bans in that thread, which is far worse than this one.
