Danny Welbeck | Arsenal player

Not really. His decision making in the box was always rather poor at United. Ofcourse people are going to try and rewrite history and make it look like he was clinical but he wasn't.
Plenty, including myself, have been saying the same thing for ages.

He scored a goal every 161 minutes in the league last season, including those games where he played on the wing. He also never took penalties. Extrapolated over a season, that's 21 goals from open play. He was never as bad as some claim.

He'll outscore Rooney as well least for my money.

Any of: Falcao, Rooney or a fit RvP, would also score more in the Arsenal side, than they would do for United, simply due to the fact they actually create chances for their forwards.

yeah except it's not, he played 90 games for us and scored what.. 20 goals? whether he has played up front or not (by the way, doesn't stop players like Ronaldo/Bale scoring from out wide) that is a shocking record and one that if he was a foreign player he'd have not been missed by the masses.

Bales scored only 29 goals in 161 games for Spurs before he really kicked on in season 2011-12.

As obvious as people moaning about the obvious. Same as the Pogba thread.

I'd rather just discuss his performance which on the whole was a good one. Looks confident right now.

Except people aren't discussing his performance, just constant posts about Welbeck potentially biting United in the ass.

He either had to get the main striker role, or be sold....
Yeah, fair enough, but when Rooney wanted to go to Chelsea (supposedly) people were crazy on his case..

Rooney is key player for us, and it would have been suicide from a both a footballing, image, and commercial point of view to let him join Chelsea.

Welbeck just doesn't have those issue attached to him, plus alot of United fans see him as a bit of a victim who wasn't given a chance, which is clearly wrong, so that no doubt smoothed the passage to Arsenal, a bit of a unique position really.

Based on what?
Obviously based on the fact that Welbeck's best ever goal scoring season is less then Rooney's worst ever since he came to United.
It's actually ridiculous how butt hurt everyone seems to be over this. It sucks he went to Arsenal. Was he good enough to be our #9 ahead of Rooney or Van Persie? Was he feck. The only option for him was to be a squad player until they declined. Even then, we got Falcao, a player Welbeck can only dream of being as good as.

He'll probably become a very good player at Arsenal. Falcao, Rooney or RvP quality? Not a chance in hell.

A lot of people are. A few people mentioned they were disappointed to see him sold (it was only a week ago) and then some others crash in like an even more predictable tonne of bricks.

Now it's a competition who can make the most stupid post to back their argument up. Henry and Bambi comparisons coming soon

Welbeck is a very decent finisher, and more to the point, is noticeably improving in that area. Have been watching him for 6-7 years. When he was younger he was as much a wide player as a striker but he was always good in the air and had a range of good 1-2 touch finishes. He has struggled more when given more time and he does not often beat his man, but he is quick and powerful and can finish. He is really very promising indeed and I'm sorry he has left the club. He will do very well for Arsenal and England. Have always thought that despite Sturridge's superb scoring for Liverpool, Welbeck is a better bet up front for England.

This whole thing is massively frustrating.

Can only rationalise his sale if he wanted to be starting every game as striker ahead of RVP and rooney. Even then perhaps he had a case...

THose Welbeck-Rooney comparisons are silly to say the least. But people keep bringing that on just to have a cheap shot at Rooney.. And as I see internet is full of it just as Redcafe. Ridiculous.

Maybe the fact that we brought in Falcao on the same day had something to do with that? this place was a disgrace IMO.

For most of which he was 21 or under! How many goals did Ronaldo and Bale score at that age? Or even the likes of Henry?

Football player in better-at-23-than-when-he-was-younger shock!

See football doesn't work like that. Suarez scored about 10 goals in December alone last season. Extrapolate that over a season....
Welbeck wasn't shit of course, but on the wing, he was useless. It's not that he never scored or assisted, it's just he never even looked like he'd get in a threatening position or look a danger, let alone get a goal. As a striker he was quite good, and scored like 8 of his 12 goals last season in a 2 month period when everyone else was out injured. Was he better then Rooney or Van Persie when they play as lone strikers? Was he good enough to force them out of the side? Not in my opinion or anyone else who doesn't have an agenda against Rooney either.

Sometimes you have to play the potential though. He clearly isn't as good as Rooney or RVP, yet... but RVP looks to be on the wane to me, and Welbeck is on the rise. That's why it's disappointing.

Yep. You see so many people on here saying shit like we should have sold Rooney to make space for Welbeck. Sorry, were we supposed to hand Welbeck the #9 spot on a silver platter? Apart from like a 1 month spell last season, has he ever done anything consistently to push for a spot? Ever? And people want to get rid of the player who will soon become both United's and Englands all team leading goalscorers

Glad he's started his post-United career well. Looking forward to listening to the gooner at work who slated him the whole world cup now say he's better than Rooney.

I love Rooney. I've defended him loads. I also love(d) Welbeck.

I think Arsenal fans will be pleased with how much closing down and possession winning he does in the attacking half. Not to mention he will create space for the likes of Ramsey and be the runner that Ozil needs to shine.

Sad to say but he will have the better midfield now to create the chances for him in open play and to match his runs.

Properly not great either, however in terms of Ronaldo at 21 you knew the guy would be special.. I've never once got the feeling that Danny Welbeck was going to be our main man.. even when the likes of Rooney, RVP moved on, retired what ever he'd have still been behind players coming in because I simply believe he isn't a top end striker.

That's a luxury we don't have at the time. When you have 3 other top strikers at the club, who are still in their prime, just at the end of it, you can't just get rid of them all for a player who probably won't ever reach that level, as they're all still top players. It's disappointing but he wanted to be starting and there's no chance he'd get that here.

But.. But.. He scored at Santiago Bernabeu.. Remember?

21 hypothetical goals

Grasping. At. Straws.

Not the same but nearly the same.

It's really not. Arsenal are a rival in terms of position in the league, nothing more than that... at times they have become a bit more, but really, they don't hold a candle to City, Liverpool or Leeds.

How is he being a bell end . He's just saying what many United fans must have been thinking.

Scoring cheap points by a "told you so". He can come back and tell us if Welbeck goes on to score 15+ goals for Arsenal.
