Danny Welbeck | Arsenal player

This is the problem with Welbeck. His link up play is really good, but when he gets into the box his finishing is actually also quite good. It makes being an agenda poster really fecking hard.

Welbeck's goals tonight were about as predictable as people's knee jerk reaction on here.

Fact is LvG deemed him surplus to requirements, so that's good enough for me.

Yes, this! I literally face palmed when I saw him score and knew people would go nuts

Piers Morgan is right to gloat. His team has got a good player here. He's obviously exaggerating because he's excited and to piss off United fans. That's understandable. We were drooling over Di Maria's performance against Germany, he's entitled to do likewise.

As I said, I think you're right, but I just don't think it's that unreasonable to suggest Welbeck could outscore our forwards given he is likely going to be the focal point of a team that creates as many chances as Arsenal do, while we have three strikers competing for two places at most.
We'll see, main goal is 4th place, if we will grab it with Danny scoring about 30 goals I'll be happy for borh him and us.

There's a hell of a difference between the class on show from Di Maria vs Germany and Welbeck's performance tonight. Neither goal was something out of the blue.

Welbeck put in a transfer request last year. He put in one this year and then he forced through a move to Arsenal. This thread is going to be a miserable place all year, isn't it?

He won't outscore Falcao but I can certainly see him outscoring RVP this season.

Edit: Don't mind him helping Arsenal to a top four spot provided we also get one (at the expense of Liverpool or even the now thrifty City).

As soon as Falcao and Di Maria light up Old Trafford, we will begin to get over this. So, Sunday, yeah.

The fact remains that is a lie. He had one run of 6 matches as a striker. One run. And what did he do? Score 6 goals and assist 2.

So this is enough to convince you that he should be our number 1 striker ahead of Van Persie, Rooney and now Falcao?

What I dont get is this. Is it not the problem Welbeck wanted to go to Arsenal of all clubs. He's a local lad, nice guy and all but he wanted Arsenal, our rivals.

Watching them both play.

The only thing Rooney has on Welbeck is that he's a better finisher.

Rooney has a better range of passing, better creating chances, better finisher.. Rooney is a much more rounded player than Welbeck will ever be.

Great to see him doing well. I think his major weakness in terms of goalscoring is he never really seems to have the same sort of predatory nature as other strikers where he's constantly trying to get on the end of things, take a shot and get a scrappy goal. Which is why I reckon his shinned goal is probably the more encouraging of the two, for Arsenal fans and Welbeck. If you look at his stats his conversion rate is always pretty good but he normally has a really low number of shots. If he starts shinning in an extra 5 or 10 goals a season then suddenly the mess ups are no big deal. Reason why his chip against Neuer was pilloried and Van Persie's misses in the first leg were treated as just one of those things.

Why are some people still discussing him as if he misses great chances every week? He doesn't, and he hasn't for over a year now. It's lazy rhetoric based on mud that has stuck.
Maybe the one on one with Neuer was just a dream.

Welbeck's short range passing is better. He's also very good at opening up defences.

Rooney is definatly a better finisher.

Surely because they were the only top club who wanted, or could afford him, fair play to him for not wanting to take too much of a step down

Did I say that? I said it's a lie that "Welbeck never did it for us".

yeah except it's not, he played 90 games for us and scored what.. 20 goals? whether he has played up front or not (by the way, doesn't stop players like Ronaldo/Bale scoring from out wide) that is a shocking record and one that if he was a foreign player he'd have not been missed by the masses.

Or maybe it's been blown out of all proportion.
Not really. His decision making in the box was always rather poor at United. Ofcourse people are going to try and rewrite history and make it look like he was clinical but he wasn't.

The man's a footballer. He has been consistently third choice and then we buy Falcao. He obviously believes he's good enough to be playing week in, week out for a top four club. One wanted him and while we wanted to keep him, Arsenal offered him first team football and we couldn't do the same. It really wasn't a hard decision, even for a local boy.

This. And if a foreign player had put in 2 transfer requests in two years and followed that up by forcing through a move to Arsenal, they'd have gotten shit loads of abuse as well.
