So far he has scored 4 league goals and more than a half of the season is gone, I wonder if all the guys that said before the season kicked in that he'll hit 10-20 goals are still backing that up.

I've got £50 with someone on here who reckons he is going to out score Rooney in the league this season.

Not sure where the irony exist as he is getting more game time at Arsenal then he would at United despite our underperforming strikers. Our do you believe he left because he just soley wanted to play as a striker? if it is the latter, you are well misinformed and I will quote some that is informed.

We've been hearing again and again he left cause he wasnt getting chances as a striker and he would flourish as a striker.
So he goes to Arsenal where he again plays on the wing like he played with us.

Forced a decent save from Lloris at the start of the second half, but apart from that and his involvement in the build up to their goal, he didn't do much. I have to admit it is starting to look like I was very, very wrong about him. Doesn't look like a player good enough to be a regular starter for a team at the highest level.

Strange really, always looked like he had it in him, but he'll be turning twenty five this year and not many players develop as significantly as that would require after reaching that age.

Not a hard task with rooney playing in midfield, i'd say your money is as good as gone.

Rooney is on 8 goals for the season.

Welbeck is on 4.

Rooney will still out score him even if he ended up playing in goal.

Agree that it isn't as easy as i first thought, but rooney hasn't been scoring lately and danny was injured, if both keep playing welbeck will have a better chance.

Thought he did well today considering he's just come back from an injury. Played a big part in the goal, and was unlucky not to bag one himself in the second half.

Still a great decision by Louis to get rid of him. The odd nice ball or shot here or there doesn't change it. Works hard, ultimately not top level.

Based on this season, I'd say it wasn't. Van Gaal has had to play Di Maria and a young Wilson up top this season because he's constantly said we need pace up top. Welbeck was '*** guy' to give us that pace in behind. Yes, he probably doesn't score enough for a striker, but he's much more than that, in my opinion, and would possibly create more room for the likes of Van Persie, Falcao, Rooney, etc, had he been in the team.

He was quite rubbish I thought. Left his side completely empty and spurs continuously attacked using the space. Did assist the first goal that's all.

I don't think he was rubbish. The usual crew on here are massively overrating his performance but that's to be expected.

His touch was poor at times but he worked his bollox off in typical Welbeck fashion. His link-up play was relatively ok and he had a cracking shot in the second half. Overall he worked hard and got an assist, a max 7/10 performance, but I would go for a 6.

Ok so it was a typical welbeck performance. My bad.

I was talking about going forward. I personally felt he was Arsenal's brightest player, although that wasn't hard. Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla and Giroud were pretty poor.

Oh, and for those saying it was a 'typical Welbeck performance', well a typical Welbeck performance is normally about a 7/10 because his overall play is normally very good. So ye.......I guess you can say that.

Man, no wonder people think I overrate him if you can look at that performance yesterday and give it a 6. He created a goal, had the next best chance for Arsenal which he made himself and was brilliant at using his pace to get Arsenal up the pitch. Yesterday his creativity and ability to run with the ball was exactly what I wish someone at United would do this year.

He was average going forward as well barring the obvious contribution. He wouldn't have been starting with ox fit. Arsenal were abysmal as an attacking unit, so you could say welbeck was decent in relative terms.

Ok, Arsene.

Pretty much summed up what I said in my last post. :wenger:

Every site I have checked has given him a 6. I would fully agree.

I am not disagreeing with you sunshine.

Think it's safe to say that's disagreeing, but I'll leave you to it sunshine. ;)

Welbeck will only outscore Rooney if Giroud gets a long term injury. Other than that expect Welbeck to play out wide at most.

Which sites?

Google the match ratings. It's not very hard. What's the big deal? He wasn't overly good. At least reserve praise for when he actually plays well.

DANNY WELBECK: Fit-again England forward showed great strength and pace down right to help set up opening goal, but also grew frustrated, picking up a yellow card and then tested Lloris with a curling effort - 6/10

I think they may play two up top in some games.

That would be pretty crazy considering when all their attacking players are fit, Wenger will struggle to fit them all in let alone play 2 strikers when they are lacking in that department.

Not since you explained your stance about his relative performance when compared to others in that team. And in anycase my gripe was more about Welbeck's general play and the defensive side to it. Let's leave it at this now. Its all a bit subjective opinion afterall.

Well against a weaker team, that line up yesterday for example could quite easily have been;

Ozil, Cockblock, Ramsey, Cazorla; Welbeck, Giroud

I don't think they'll play it often but Wenger may try and mix up their shape once in a while.

Arsenal haven't played two up top since Henry was last at the club not on loan. They could do it but not with the players that played yesterday and even then I imagine Welbeck would play a withdrawn defensive role.

We'd be a better team with him instead of Falcao.

Yep. I don't care what anyone says or how they try to spin it. Falcao has been terrible, especially considering the money being wasted on him. Welbeck would have been better.

The difference being if Welbeck fashioned that chance against West Ham and fluffed it just like Falcao did you'd be praising him for getting himself in that goal scoring position, not lambasting him for missing it.

No, I wouldn't.
