Danny Welbeck | Arsenal player

Is Giroud going to be the preferred striker now that he is back pushing Danny back out on the wing?

Apparently so.

Looks like yet another manager will push Welbeck out wide rather than rely on him as the main striker. This time it's in favour of Giroud though rather than an apparently world class striker.

Some might suggest that this is a sign that he isn't all that as a striker....

He played when fit, for the most part. He was dogged by injuries the last two seasons.

Well, no, as my post highlighted he was on the bench as often as he started (and that didnt even include bench appearences when he didnt get subbed on). He was backup to RVP and Rooney, and rotated with Kagawa/Young/Nani on the left wing.

I feel Welbeck had the chance to change the game, but he did not take it. The first instance was not his fault, as he did well to lay the ball of to Wilshere, but Wilshere fail to capitalize on that golden opportunity. The second instance was the backheel he tried in the box. It was just a poor attempt and showed that he does not care about whether he scores alot of goal or not. Costa or most clinical strikers would have just turned around and have a go at the keeper without trying the fancy trick.

Welbeck is a strange player. He definetly has the ability and on another day, he would have had a higher rating if he had been more decisive and lucky, but it is now becoming a consistent theme rather than a luck factor when he spurns these chances. The Bayern game and the city game where he tried a failed chip attempt shows this consistent theme of failing to capitalize on chances he should have done better in if he was not so concerned about the aesthetic beauty of his goal. He needs a manager that has the fear factor. Van Gaal would have been a good manager for Welbeck, because he would not put up with his lack of indecision. It is shame he left United as I feel, a Rooney-Welbeck/Falcao combo uptop would have had us near the top of the league

You completely miss the point don't you

No I don't.

Arsenal had loads of play, but because Sanchez didn't produce, they didn't make an impression. They only scored once Giroud was on the pitch, but even he's not a proper top bracket striker. Welbeck produced his usual perspiration-filled-but-no-real-end-product sort of performance.

United's relatively toothless play is more to do with van Persie's malaise, as opposed to us missing a striker with two league goals.

The media make you laugh, first they criticise the club for selling their soul, and then 2 months later they write articles criticising stories about united selling their soul.

If selling our soul means getting rid of a striker who can't score goals then I am glad that we did that.

The media would have been all over it like a rash had Welbeck scored yesterday.

Thankfully he didn't....

McNair, Blackett and Wilson have all been on the pitch at the end to help see us grind out tough wins over Everton and Arsenal now. Injuries have obviously played a part in that but it's clear van Gaal won't be ignoring the youth here.

Welbeck's sale had nothing to do with us selling our soul. Van Gaal didn't rate him or at least thinks the minutes are better served going to Wilson. Hopefully he'll be proved right.

Nah he was never first choice. He played in certain games because of his work rate, and he obviously does have some qualities like his pressing and winning the ball off defenders, but generally under Fergie he was never good enough to be a starter, same with under Moyes. He basically turned into Ji Sung Park after Park left us. Similar goal output too.

I still love Danny. If it doesn't work out in London come home. We need a Park Ji Sung or Olé.

That's the problem he didn't want to be that. He will be shifted to the wing or bench now Giroud is back and Walcott is close to returning too. The whole situation is funny but predictable at the same time.

How many goals did van Persie score?

Despite how poor RVP has been his output still has been better than Wlebeck. RVP 3 goals in 8 league games, Welbeck 2 goals in 9 games.

Despite it being blatantly clear Welbeck is not a top striker.

LvG bought Falcao before Welbeck left. It was van Gaal who didn't want him here and forced him out.

Nacer Chadli has 6 goals. 'Output' is no the be all and end all, especially when a player is in a new team and adapting to a different style of play. Not to mention the amount of work he does for the team, particularly as a foil for Sanchez.

Yes it's that's true but i was responding to someone who decided to compare RVP to Welbeck, i didn't bring it up.

Manchester United have scored 19 goals this season in the league. If Welbeck were here, we'd have bagged more, even if his own output were relatively modest. RvP offers almost nothing else.

This has been done to death really so won't comment on why he left. And from his comments it's clear to see he did not want to play on the wing but centrally.

Also why he left doesn't matter for me, what matters is we sold players that were not good enough, we are in a rebuilding phase and that includes getting rid of players who are not to standard, and no matter how people want to sugarcoat and make excuses he's not good enough.

Ummmm, both deals happened around the same time.

And it's not that LvG forced him out. He was making noises since last season..
No they didn't. Welbeck was sold at the last minute, with the bid from Arsenal coming after the purchase of Falcao.

And Arsenal should be top of the league and Welbeck top scorer because of the famed great through balls from Arsenal midfielders.

He has 3 in 11.

Arsenal have their own problems. United very clearly played more fluent football with Welbeck in the side.

Also on the other hand Arsenal have scored 20 league goals with Welbeck only scoring 2 goals, that with superior midfield behind him and in a team which generally creates more going forward.

So LvG forced Welbeck out in the last 24 hours.
There was an interview with his agent on transfer deadline day on 5Live. There were 3 bids on the last day (Tottenham, Arsenal and one other he didn't mention). The story about Arsene playing golf on the August 31st and almost missing out on the signing confirms it.

And nothing about the noises he had been making prior that he wants to leave, etc?

He made United play better. Arsenal are full of bottlers.

Excuse after excuse.

Welbeck isn't a reliable enough source of goals for us. Rooney won't be dropped from this side ever, and when he goes through his purple patches of not scoring, Welbeck can't be relied upon to fill the void.

We have no pace up top without him. You can't boil football down to stats. LvG made a mistake letting him go. You're excusing him if you think otherwise.
There's no point in having pace upfront if it doesn't produce the goods. Rvp might have been a let down so far but LVG clearly knows that we need a top player upfront. So he's gone with Falcao and Rvp. One hasn't performed but at least we're aiming at a top striker up front rather than someone who is just good.

Golf? :wenger: Where do you people pick up this rubbish?
