Yeah, but why bump the thread?

Thread bump for a goal against San Marino? Seriously. Why isn't the Rooney thread bumped. This is getting ridiculous.

If Welbeck had missed those two Rooney chances I can guarantee this thread would have been bumped.

Yeah, but why bump the thread?
You realise nobody forces you to open it?

The thread is here to discuss him as a player, if you don't want to do that then stay out of it instead of moaning, constantly, about the topic.

Neville Southall was seen on the sidelines sarcastically clapping whilst quipping "Well done, its San Marino".

Here's a kerrazy idea.

If anyone is bothered by the concept of a thread discussing each performance of the Arsenal player, Danny Welbeck, how's about you don't regularly click on the thread with that exact title?

At the very least, don't fecking post in it.
Amen.

Any more posts in here that are discussing the discussion rather than adding to it will lead to warnings.

Praise him, criticise him, whatever, but moaning about people talking about him is no longer being tolerated.

And before anyone starts bitching about the moderation, save it, there's no censoring of opinions going on, if you've got criticism of his play then post it.

8 goals in 10 starts is a really decent record.

Although didn't Crouch have a really good goals/game for England at one point?
Of those 10, 3 are against San Marino, another 2 against Moldova, and 2 against the Swiss, I would say considering the opposition that's a poor record.

Crouch has scored some belting goals over the years to be fair. Notably that volley against city

Don't be daft. 8 in 10 isn't a poor record, in any context.

It's not as impressive as it would been against stronger opposition but it's blatantly not poor.
Come on man, you honestly think there's anything to read into stats like this? Get Crouch back in the England squad!!

You bringing up the Swiss as poor opposition? They at least managed to get out of the group stages of the WC, which is more than can be said of England, Spain or Italy ;P

Oh right. Thought he was a bit better than that at one point.
Its funny how people keep saying Hodgson doesn't have a lot of talent at his disposal yet this group of attacking players are better than anything England has had in more than 10 years

Scoring against poor opposition is what has let down so many players / teams in the past. Can't remember the season(s) where Liverpool did really well against the top teams but, dropped points, often by not scoring against so called weak opposition.

He put his chance a way well regardless of the competition. Is he given any less criticism say for failing to put away a chance against Dortmund or Madrid because it was against tough competition? His finishing has been up for debate and it shouldn't matter who he finishes against, if he is putting away his chances then he is doing his job.

True, although saying San Marino are poor opposition could be construed as praise considering how terrible they are. But yeah, a good finish is a good finish either way.

Like Pogue said, 8 in 10 can never be seen as poor.

He failed to score in the world cup. He can smash San Marino all he wants (and he will), but his record is not special. Chicharito has what, 37 goals in 67 matches? And he's not even the starter anymore.

Rooney went to 3 WC finals before managing a goal, using that as a stick to beat Welbeck with seems pretty silly.

Aye, David Healy has like 36 including a hat trick against Spain and goals against Germany, England and Sweden. So far, Welbeck is proving no better than Crouch at international level; he's scoring against pretty poor teams. I actually didn't think he was particularly good last night, considering the opposition.

you know how hard it is to score an opponent(regardless of the quality) who has 10 men inside their own box??

There's still a massive gulf in terms of quality between the two teams. Overall, I don't think he was particularly good last night. His build up play was sloppy at times and I don't think he always picked up a good position when England were in possession. No one is suggesting that he was good last night (I don't think anyway), so I'm probably just pointing out the obvious really.
