Danny Welbeck 2015/16

Just reading some ratings from yesterday and Sanzhez and Ozil both scored an 8 with Welbeck getting a 7. F365 also said that Ozil was by far the best Arsenal player on the pitch, some fans on Arsenal Mania weren't impressed with Welbeck yesterday either, yet there's some on here bigging up his performance and saying he has been Arsenals' best player since returning from injury when it's clear that Ozil has been far better and Sanchez has improved in recent weeks.

Even after Arsenal sell him, some will still insist he's the dogs bollocks and we should have kept him.

Oh as long as football 365 said it I guess we can pack it in Welbeck has only been a 7

Nah, they didn't have ratings unfortunately. I've come to the conclusion that you are Welbeck, Twiggy. It's funny that unbiased ratings and actual Arsenal fans didn't think he was that good yesterday but you think he was their best player. Odd, that.

He's always looked a player that looks like he's going to do something with a nice touch, only to do the square root of feck all game after game. He's ridiculously average.

Ever since Welbeck has comeback from injury. Both him and Ozil have played 12 times. Welbeck started 8 times and Ozil started all of the matches. Ozil has 3 assists and 2 goals in that period, whereas Welbeck has 2 assists and 4 goals in that period. But yeah Ozil has been far better, because F365 said so!

You're right, Welbeck is the business.

TBF you're ignoring the fan backlash he's getting. I bumped this thread last year with Arsenal fans lambasting him so it's not just a recent occurance.
Di Maria had unbelievable stats for us but not one fan will claim he was one of our top performers.

You have truly converted me. The thing about the Welbeck super fans on here is that nothing matters, stats? Nope. Lack of goals? Nope. Getting subbed off consistently and being generally poor at the back end of last season? Nope, doesn't matter. Arsenal fans now criticising him? Nope, doesn't matter. Yet to get into double figures in the PL despite turning 26 this year? Nope, doesn't matter. All that matters is what you guys say; I mean lets ignore all the obvious things like he just isn't that good and selling him was hardly a travesty.

Just a little Ozil stat:

Created eight chances in 90 minutes, three more than any other Premier League player this weekend. Ozil has now created 131 chances in the league this season, the gap between him and Christian Eriksen in second the same as the gap between fourth (Willian) and Marko Arnautovic in joint-32nd.

I am specifically talking about the period ever since he has come back from injury. Not saying he's better than Ozil or Sanchez as a player but ever since he has come back from injury, he's been Arsenal's best player.

Jesus, this is tougher than I thought. The stats I posted above shows that he has a better goal/assist ratio than Ozil ever since he cameback. You've ignored all of it and then posted a chance creation stat. Sums your argument completely.

Great pass from Ozil which Welbeck should have done a lot better with.

More and more Arsenal fans are starting to realise that Welbeck is a good, versatile, workhorse squad player and not the man to lead the line for them consistently.

So because you say he's been Arsenal's best player since returning from injury it must be true? Even though Arsenal fans don't agree. It's your opinion but don't use it as fact.

But wouldn't having an underperforming Welbeck up front have a negative affect on Ozils' stats?

You keep on changing the arguments. First you say that people overlook stats when it comes to Welbeck, when I post stats to prove you wrong then you say he hasn't been Arsenal's best player because Arsenal fans don't agree with the choice.

Stats back me. Three people from Arsenal Mania back you. Personally I think I might have an edge here.

Stats don't back anything. One is a striker, one isn't. That's for starters. Awful logic. Rooney got goals last season but was shite.

Even as an attacking midfielder he only has one assist more inspite of starting four more matches, but let's ignore that. Arsenal Mania for the win!

Yeah what would Arsenal fans know about their own players, pfffttt. Eh yeah, well Ozil is doing his job and creating the chances. It's unfortunate for him that Arsenal don't have a clinical centre forward to finish the chances. But hey KM told me Welbeck has been better so it's a fact I guess.

Weird argument.

Exactly. Ozil is, and has been of late, the far superior player.

Welbeck's a strong squad player for us, and I'm hopeful that he's just being given this run to the end of the season so Wenger can decide whether he's good enough, and therefore if we need a new striker in the summer (he isn't, and we do).

He and Giroud are much of a muchness too. Welbz is the one in the team now, but this time last year when they were both fit he was in horrible form, and Giroud was scoring every week. Both are decent players, but not clinical enough, or consistent enough to lead the line for a title winning side. Keeping both and signing one top class striker to play ahead of/ alongside them would be the dream.

It's bizarre, it really is. It's clear as day that Ozil has been the better player. Some won't give up on this Welbeck revisionism though.

All in all, I've always found some on here very reluctant to praise Ozil. The guy just creates so many chances, it's untrue.

Ignore the Arsenal fan that just said Ozil has been 'far superior'. Because it's the done thing to ignore every fact possible about Welbeck and keep on overrating him.

Yes because the Arsenal fan you've quoted is amazing, bloke has been predicting Arsenal to win the title since the last two months. Anyway this is tiring, I just said that Welbeck has been Arsenal's best player ever since he has come back from injury. You disagree, fine. Let's move on.

But you stated it as fact which it isn't. Funny how you dismiss all Arsenal fans opinions on the chap. Anyhow, yeah. I strongly disagree with you but we'll leave it there.

I saw this on the arsenal reddit yesterday. The fans were saying he is too good to be playing with the likes of Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott

Sometimes you just need to use your eyes. Ozil is on another level with how many chances he has made and it's not his fault that the Arsenal strikers finishing has been so poor

Wow. There are still people who think selling welbeck was a mistake? The mind boggles.

He wasn't bought to be that player.

Welbeck is a shockingly mediocre player who works really hard. Glad we got rid and Arsenal fans on Arsenal Mania don't really think he's anything great either.

He's been really good since coming back from injury.

Perhaps the finishing will never improve which is frustrating as Danny is a hell of a player. He really should accept the role of a wide forward because he is perfect for that role with his pace, power and workrate. Like a black Ji Sung Park.

He was our best academy player since 92. I don't buy the 'average' comments. Poor finisher yes, but a very good player. I wish he never wanted to leave. I still don't know fully if we really wanted out or if he was chased out. Either way it is a shame. Call me a hopeless romantic United fan, I don't care. We'd be better with him in the side.

By playing him wide you don't get the best out of him. He plays best up top but by playing there you're playing a striker that won't score you goals. His ideal situation I think is something more like 4-4-2 which no top side plays anymore.
