 look at his face.. the passion

He looked angry as feck when Zabaleta equalised.

I thought Balotelli was shit today, but Clichy and Nastasic were worse.

Valencia was pretty poor today, I don't think he was fully fit. Danny did well when he was on. Was he involved in the build up when Rafael won that free kick?

Put in a good shift today. Played out of position for most of the season. The lad will get his fair share of matches but I hope he stays patient because the goals will come for him. Just needs a bit more experience and once the game slows down a bit his finishing should improve!

I just love him to bits. His head is in the right place and he although he's not your typical striker I love how he surprises defenders with the work he puts into getting the ball back. It's been crucial on numerous occasions for us.

Wouldn't mind him scoring a few more like his first goal for us, that was fecking ace (the long distance one v Stoke I think?)

Didn't do a lot in the short time he was on the pitch. But won the ball back high up the field in the lead up to rafael winning the free kick.

It would be a really nice time of year for him to find some goalscoring form. I reckon yesterday will do him the world of good and with the xmas on the way hes sure to get starts as well...

Yes. I think that he's playing well this season, just the goals are missing. Though he is not playing as a striker so this is not helping in his goal stats.

I don't think there's any other striker better than him at this. Alright, it's a small part of a striker's skill-set, and we need him to get a bit more consistent at the actual scoring part, which he will if he gets the game time.

But it's a nice bonus that every game he wins the ball back a couple of times, often in dangerous positions.

Kagawa was amazing at Dortmund for pressing and tackling, people just assume because he's small and jinky that he doesn't have a defensive side.

Not really, he does have a defensive side just not as good as Danny, which is fine seeing as he is so good at it.

To be fair I'v never really noticed Kagawas tackling for Dortmund, obviously he was good at pressing like the whole team was though.

I am suprised that there isn't more love for this guy on here.

The amount of tackles and interceptions he gets through his workrate is really impressive. Tevez presses all the time but rarely steals the ball like Welbeck.

Welbeck also has a very good first touch. I have heard people saying he doesn't but I really don't know what they are on about. I've also heard people say he doesn't have 'control' over his body. That's complete bullshit right there. At blistering pace Welbeck and dribble past players and create space for himself extremely well.

His overall game and intelligence is VERY good for a such a young player. Yes, his finishing has been poor. But it also took Rooney and Ronaldo years to develop their finishing. At Welbeck's age Rooney and Ronaldo were missing changes all over the place and blasting in the chest of keepers time after time.

Welbeck is a gem. A Manchester lad and you can tell he lives and breathes United.

I think he can get to a Saha level without the injuries. Sky is the limit for him.

Agreed, the touch thing is one of the more bizarre quirks of resident Caf mentalists. His touch is amazing.

What is true is that this season he's done quite a lot of dribbling the ball straight into the opposition and getting tackled. But he's just not in the best form, that's all.

Love watching him play with Rooney and Cleverley, it's like trigonometry, only much less boring.

Dont make up stuff. This is the kind of post that makes it right when people claim hes overrated.

If someone offered ~15m for Welbeck, would you sell? Personally I would. Hes a good enough squad player but will never be a player that gives us the final step to go from very good team to title winners. Honestly, which top half teams in the Prem would swap their main striker or forward for Welbeck?

Im disappointed at the kind of stagnation he has shown in his development. He has been granted a lot of time on the pitch for a youngster at a club of our stature, but he really hasnt developed much the last year or so. He seems to have hit a plateau considerably earlier than I hoped.

As of right now he has plenty of players ahead of him in every position, and the position he gets game time in he doesnt even have the skillset to play properly.

fecking hell. Click the little shutdown button and go outside and get some fresh air.

Christ. "Will never make it", "won't ever be good enough", "cant lead the line for a club like United", "Balotelli despite being a gormless clunge who performs when he wants is much better than a player who is switched on and lacking the same talent but gives 100% all the time".

Just feck off you utter utter Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

He's very good at taking people on but, as is the case with a lot of players, it's probably the first part of his game to suffer when there's a dip in his confidence.

Are goals the only way to judge strikers? Don't you think Welbeck contributes more in all-round play? Even so, if we take it as a given that Balotelli is a better penalty taker and just look at their goalscoring records from open play they're pretty similar - in the Premier League and Champions League Balotelli scored once every 3.6 games while Welbeck scores once every 3.8.

Does every player follow the same development path from their teens to their 30s? Saviola looked a more talented player than David Villa, Van Der Vaart looked a more promising talent than Kaka...but lets look at a more relevant example.

Rewind back 10 years and Cassano was Italy's future golden boy up front, moved to Roma for a huge fee - like Balotelli to City - and he scored crucial goals in Euro 2004 - again, much like Balotelli this summer. He had no trouble scoring in Europe and overall scored 38 in 112 between the ages of 19-22 at Roma. Van Persie at the same age scored 22 in 78 at Feyenoord and then after moving to Arsenal for about one tenth of the fee Cassano went to Roma for, he scored 34 in 109 in his first three seasons at Arsenal.

And before anyone says it, no, I don't think Welbeck is as talented as Van Persie. That's not the point. The point is anyone who saw Cassano from a young age could tell he was going to be a superstar at some point - and that was backed up by his performances and goals at all levels that compared favourably to most other forwards in Europe at this time - as long as he got his head sorted. Even if he never got his head sorted, even at 50%, he'd still be a top class player. Yet by the time the 2010 World Cup came round he was 28 years old, playing at a midtable club and couldn't even make it into the World Cup squad while an 'average' talent like Diego Milito had just come off the back of a season where he scored title and cup-winning goals in the Serie A, Coppa Italia Final and Champions League Final - and he got there through hard work and perseverance.

You learn a lot about a player/person when chances don’t get handed to you on a plate - I reckon Welbeck will knuckle down and benefit from this experience while Balotelli will decide he’s better off at a more glamorous club like Milan and struggle to live up to expectations (see Cassano to Madrid).

Sage advice. Great post.
