Rooney is infinitely more talented, and isn't a number 9, daft comparison

Plenty of Sunday League players with those attributes.

The problem is, even on his good days, he rarely scores or assists. I suppose if Fergie is still persevering with Macheda after the last two years, he'll give Welbeck to his mid-twenties to come good.

Assists are probably one of the most misleading stats in the game, they rely on the player you're providing for to finish the job and also a player can contribute hugely to the team scoring a goal without playing the final ball.

As for scoring himself it's not fair to judge him on that when he's being shunted out onto the wing and when he has played through the middle this season Hernandez has been his most prominent partner who with all due respect is a great finisher but isn't going to create many chances for his partner.

Lynk, could you clarify what point you're trying to make here? His tally when played up-front was fine for a breakout season and he really should have built on it this season because his job is to score goals as he is a #9 even though he's being deployed as anything but these days..?

Also, I'm not sure if you genuinely don't know the definition of infinite or if you're being hyperbolic, but either way it's not helping your argument.

The weirdest thing about Welbeck is that his legs appear a foot longer than they are. So many times it looks like he's about to lose a ball to a defender, only to reach out and nick it away.

Unfortunately it's a twin-edged sword. The only reason he has to reach so far is because his touch let's him down, and even though he can nick it away he's typically off balance.

Might be controversial, but I'd love to see him loaned out for the second half of the season, with us having a recall option in case of injuries.

RVP, Rooney and Hernandez are all above him in the pickings, and he really isn't learning much being shunted out wide, where he hurts the team. If Fergie could cut a deal with a friendly manager, I'd love to see him starting week in/out in the premier league for a few months. Really think he's close to making the step up, but isn't there yet.

That's more down to self-confidence, his technique was excellent last season when he played most of our games, he was rarely losing the ball in that way.

Welbeck has been very poor this season IMO. He adds no physical presence or aerial threat despite his size - if Sunderland or any other club offered 10 mill jan I'd snap their hand off. I just don't see star quality or even the potential of it.

10 fecking milions for Welbeck, oh ffs, redcafe is really weird weird place quite often.

Glad you're not SAF/Gill.

Jesus christ. I am glad the people making the decisions are in the club and not on the caf. feck me, one of the gleaming gems in Caftard history.

This is very much a guess, but I'd say you have a very basic fecking understanding on the game of football.

I suspect yamo would have been one of those who would have sold Ronaldo and got Lennon in after his first spate of bad form over a few months.

And before anyone jumps on me I am not saying Welbeck is as talented as Ronaldo.

Christ he a young striker who is in and out of the team and when he is in he is not playing as a striker. He is actually doing a pretty good job where he is getting asked to play on the wings and certainly looking better than Ashley Young on the left.

But lets all ignore that and get pissed off he isn't banging in shit loads of goals.

I think Welbeck will be a big part of this team for years to come. Noway would i sell him. Plus he is homegrown talent! Not to mention an England international! to even contemplate selling him is ludicrous

Being an international doesn't mean much nowadays when the likes of Henderson, Shelvey, Osman and Carroll all played recently. I don't agree with the guys original point, I wouldn't sell Welbeck. He does need to find some form soon though or his chances this season will be scarce. What use is he to play if he's not scoring/providing? All workrate with little end product so far, but he fades out of the games too much.

Once Welbeck improves his composure in front of goal then he can become a decent player.

They both have one goal in the Premier League. Danny at least has the excuse of playing on the wing most of the time.

Ballotelli hasn't been up front all the time either. Also Welbeck played in far more dead rubber games, as United had a far easier group.

Plus we didn't spend £20m+ on acquiring Danny's services. He has the potential to be one of the best around its just hard for him when he is in competition with the best around for that number 9 spot but his time will come.

Who cares? The question was who is the better player. Balotelli by far.

Based on what? Nobody's gonna argue he's the more talented, hell, he's more talented than pretty much anyone his age in the world, but he's a complete fecking liability 70% of the time.

Based on ability. Only those with red tinted specs would say Welbeck is better.

When did football fans decide that if you aren't good enough at 22 you'll never be good enough?

I'm fairly sure if you looked at the list of the Premier League's all time top scorers there are plenty of players who were 'only' around the level of Welbeck at his age.

Football is about a whole lot more than mere ability.

Sure. When players have similar ability, the one with a better attitude will win out, but Balotelli is just far more talented.

He can be pretty skillful from time to time, but he's a fecking gormless Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

Excluded the "Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime" part, same could be said for Welbeck.

Exactly. Welbeck is twice the player Balotelli is.
:lol::lol::lol:

Right. More appearances, less goals.

Ravel Morrison is far more talented than anyone to come through our academy in the last two decades.

As much of a cock as Balotelli is, it doesn't stop him from being a good player. He could be world class, attitude is stopping him from reaching that. But still, at present ability he is far better than Welbeck.

 :wenger:

Balotelli is a class apart from Welbeck.

So much so that his managers hate playing him. If he's as talented as so many believe him to be then Mourinho must've been right when he says he's "unmanageable", because he's clearly a last resort for Mancini in spite of the quality he possesses.

Dzeko and Tevez have been in poor form for weeks now and Balotelli can't even get a game - he's played about 180 minutes of football (just 1 start) in over a month; City have had 8 matches in that time, Dzeko's started 4 of them and scored in none, Tevez has started 5 and scored in just 2. Dzeko's played over twice as much and scored just 1 goal in total.

If someone offered ~15m for Welbeck, would you sell? Personally I would. Hes a good enough squad player but will never be a player that gives us the final step to go from very good team to title winners. Honestly, which top half teams in the Prem would swap their main striker or forward for Welbeck?

Im disappointed at the kind of stagnation he has shown in his development. He has been granted a lot of time on the pitch for a youngster at a club of our stature, but he really hasnt developed much the last year or so. He seems to have hit a plateau considerably earlier than I hoped.

As of right now he has plenty of players ahead of him in every position, and the position he gets game time in he doesnt even have the skillset to play properly.
